Whatever suits your play style the best to be honest. I currently have my felyne setup like this:

True Health Flute - He occaisonally heals me for the same ammount as a mega potion.

Earplugs - When wyverns roar he doesn't have to stand still like I do.. which means he can knock me out of it early

Shock Trap - just so he can lay down the occaisonal trap for extra hits.

ok..one more thing is breaking the monster better than cuting its tail

Well, breaking the monster parts, or cutting off the tail etc just give you different items. So, for instance, breaking Kut-Ku's ears gives you the chance of recieving a Kut-Ku ear in the quest rewards. :]
