  • @real toast there is a foul it's pushing

Foul he clearly pushes off him and that's a foul

  • that's neither a penalty, nor a yellow card.

  • Dive yellow card,

  • i just got my grade 8 license and had a foul similar to this one in a game i referred and i waved to the player get up for his dive when i could have carded him then i ended up with half the parents screaming at me for the pk did i make the right call. i mean i literally just got my license and it was my first game.

  • I am a Grade 8 referee and based on this video, I would have given an indirect free kick to black and issued a yellow card to the white player for the "fake" fall. Players often times will push off of other players and fall to make it look like the other player pushed them, the yellow card would be issued for unsportsmanlike behavior.

  • @thesoccerreferee At times, a simple waving up of the arm is more effective than automatically thinking "card". Use the plastic when absolutely necessary - don't be a "book" referee.

  • No sure on this, however maybe this should be a lesson for players on why they should not put their hands on the other players. It is easy to fake this when you opposite number always has his hands on you and as a ref it is not always that easy to tell when a player was pushed or not.

  • The referee could have benefited by being in a better position to make a better call which I feel was not correct. Some of us refs just cant keep up with these kids though, not be of course! Even with the contact, it was a very weak call to make.

  • clearly diving there, we saw this move in almost every pro-level game.

  • Clear cut foul! Pushed him off the ball with an extenction of the hand and the cr was in great position... Great call ref

  • Dont question the referee

  • No foul.

Two kids going for a ball, aggressively, shoulder to shoulder, one loses footing and falls down. This does NOT make a foul. After eight years of watching my kids play youth soccer, this is the most frequent and frustrating call of all. How many otherwise fantastic contests have been spoiled by the ref who just has to inject himself into the action, only to stifle momentum and play.

    Let'm play.

  • Ha! I finally saw the the referee saw. Black had a firm hold of the white player's shorts! All the spectators were focused for a non-existent trip or push.

  • @wguynes I concur with that. The ref was right on this one!

  • As a referee. Not a penalty, you can se that the player with the ball, waits until he is inside the box.

    Play on.

  • The kids falls three times in seven seconds. Why not check for greasy shoes?

  • continue play, no foul. maybe yellow card for unsporting behaviour.

  • No foul, play on. It definately is a soft penalty but a tough decision. Doesn't matter anyway since americans don't have a clue about football

  • No foul. not a close scoring opportunity. no goal scoring chance no foul. soccer is a contact sport. he lost the ball from the get go

  • arms outstretched, you pretty much have to call it....

  • he definitely embellished, but it was a foul either way.

  • he barely touches him! dive!

  • Ref made a good Call. White was making the run into the box, and black threw his arm out. (The call looks "black and white" to me)

  • good call.. bad angle though... dont make a call when your way up in the stands at the 50 yard line... not cool.

as a soccer ref i would also award a PK.

  • @TheDuran21 Exactly, the ref sees at a different angle than parents. So, their views are different.

  • @TheDuran21 the ref is right outside the view of the camera, like 10 yards away... idk, little soft and a little dive for a pk imo.

  • Great call, i am also a soccer referee and personaly Black 13 was lucky not to get booked for disent or unsporting behavior. and good call with the foul.

  • Im a soccer referee and I totally call it a PK, for one you can see him push a player, and secondly he tries to hide it. It was a great call!

  • My first reaction was to say, yes, it was a bad call, a flop. But on the replay you can see the player in black raises up his arm toward the player in white. It's hard to tell if there's a push, but the referee has a better angle.

  • I'm not so sure that was a warranted foul but as a defender you have to be careful especially in the box. I think depending on the ref that call could go either way. 50,50.

  • A little from column A, a little from column B. Any use of the arms when shielding the ball is technically illegal so it's difficult to have sympathy for the defender even though its quite clear the attacker made no natural effort to resist the force. A better angle would be more conclusive though.

  • Coming from a soccer referee, it's extremely hard to call this one from this angle. Slow motion is nice, but I'd rather leave it to the man on the pitch with the best angle on the play: the referee.

Now, if I had to guess from this angle, I would have called the foul. The defender's arms were raised, and even though the attacker may have been off balance, the movement of the defender's body AFTER the contact gives him away.

And the arms-up strategy? It's a guilty look.

  • Looks like a flop, not necessarly a dive...but that defender shouldn't have made it looke like he pushed him and put his arm up.

  • good call. even if it was fake, it could be passed as him getting elbowed down.

  • jesus american soccer is crap

  • The only problem that I can see with football in America is too many lines painted all over the pitch!

  • I am a ref. I wouldn't want to call that because it would be a pain in the butt to explain it.

  • i would have called it too.

i am new to refing but i think most ref would call that.

  • looked like he might have caught his foot. Could have gone either way, but it looked like it might be a trip.

  • it was probably a flop but the defender shouldn't have put his arm up and made it look like he pushed him. the offender was going the other direction anyway. he should have left him alone and play smart. still a controversial call.

  • i have to agree with steve 98689 it does look like a flop but black 13 put his hand up so any ref is going to call that at least once in a game
