  • Leather is animal skin, right? There are several books in the world that were bound in human flesh during some of our darker moments. The idea freaks most of us out but animal skin is animal skin. Think about if cows did this to humans lol Fucked up ^_^

  • can you tell us how to make a reversible belt? that is, a different color on each side. thank you.

  • Nice little video

You can never have too many belts

  • You forgot the Belt Loop.

  • You put the belt buckle on wrong. The bent part of the tip should be on top, not the bottom.

  • A draw gauge is very dangerous to use. Use a wooden strap cutter instead.

  • The tongue of a belt buckle is the part that will go through the holes you created on the other side. That piece of metal in the center or the heel of a buckle. I hope that helps.

  • what is a belt tongue

  • hahahah

  • I love lamp!

  • this is awesome

  • where is the best place to get lether to make a strap 4 a wwe/tna belt?

  • @tboysmashing From us of course. We sell belt strips in the store. Let me know what width you want and I can get you a quote.

  • @MaineLineIndustries you know what a wwe belt is right? , its a very wide strap , just type in wwe championship on youtube and you will see what i mean

  • Do u make studded belts

  • @TheBlacksabbathfan9 Some times it depends on what we want to make. You can easily make a belt and then put some spots or spikes or whatever you want in them.

  • Thank you very much for this tutorial!

  • Ahhh dude , 4 str 4 stam leather belt? AWww! level 18? *burp* *burp*

  • And voila! Thanks for this nice tutorial from france :)

  • realy good video, thanks for sharing

  • Did you just cut the end of that leather on a slab of marble, or stone... I know it wasn't a cutting pad like rubber or plastic...

  • Great video many thanks for sharing

  • Do you plan a video showing how to trim and slick down or buff the leather edges?

  • im totaly using this to make my mask straps

  • Hi,

I want to make a belt using three long, thin strips of soft leather, with no holes, buckles or anything else... just leather strips. I would tie it around my waste and let the excess length hand down about a foot or so.

What kind of leather would you suggest I get, and where do you think I can find it. I would like it pre-finished, but soft. maybe a brown or cordovon color is what I'm looking for. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • @ironchopsticks You'd probably want something that is anywhere from 3-6oz leather. If you are going to try and hang anything from the belt you'd want the 6 oz since the leather is soft to begin with. I hope that helps.

  • @MaineLineIndustries hey thanks, that helps a lot. since i can't find a belt like this that is within an affordable price range, i will try to make it myself with your suggestions.

  • Boston!

  • Anyone selling or know where I can get the tools he has to work the leather?

  • If you're lazy, just buy a belt without all the effort of making one :P

  • 7:08 OMFG new shirt

  • Hi how do you resize a reversible leather belt to a smaller size. I.e from 48 to 40 or38?

  • @pghag06 Usually when I want to go smaller in size I take a much larger belt and then cut off at the first hole and then re-tip it off and then re-punch my holes. As for going from a 48-40. You could just tip it off where you want it and then just keep the holes and add more to make it look like that is what the belt normally was like. I hoped that helped. Thanks for watching.

  • That was a cool vid I need to show my dad he will love it. He loves to make things

  • Hello!

Great informative video! What is the tool you use to hit with called? I've tried using a standard hammer, but it doesn't generate enough power and weight. I also have some issues getting my rivets on right. Is this also possibly due to the hammer i use? Thank you! : )

  • what a cool vid, very interesting!!! I have a question, how many belts can you make off a hide and how much would nice full size hide cost?

  • It depends on how wide you want the belts and the shape of the hide. If you want a 1-1/2" belts out of a double shoulder which is about 14-16 square feet which costs about $75 a little more or less depending on size of hide. You can get about 25-30 strips but again it depends on the shape of hide. I hope that helps.

  • I didn't know John Belushi did leather work...

  • Great overview! Thank you for posting it.

  • I went to the website to buy some veg tan...and guess what, NO VEG TAN!!!

  • Hi, I just looked and it appears the person working on our site stopped mid way through. I will put some up in a little bit. You can always call toll free 1-877-782-6820 ask for dave. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • this is great............ thankyou

  • can you help me with this project I'm working on I need tooling leather

  • What is the name of the tool you used to cut the belt end, giving it a round end.

    Thanks.

  • Its a tip die. They come in a couple sizes and there is also one that starts out like the regular one but instead of rounding it off it is straight across.

  • Great tutorials, very useful. Thanks a lot :)

    Keep videos coming.

  • What size are those belt holes?

  • These belt hole size is a 3/16"

  • Anyone making belts, where do you find double tang belt buckles? I have a new belt with a busted buckle, I want to buy a new double tang buckle only, not another belt. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • There are not many double tounge belt buckles out there. What size belt do you have? I think I have some for 2" and maybe 1-1/2" let me know and i'll check if I have any.

  • Great video, what weight of leather were you using, I'm making some custom pieces and the leather is 4oz (1/16 thick) I don't know what size of rivets (length wise) to use, 1/8 post sounds good but I could be wrong, I want to use 3/8 head rivets, the shortest rivets I've found online is 1/4 post but this seems like it'll be way too long, Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • If your using 4 oz leather I would think a small rivet which would be about 1/4" post would do well. Usually on 8oz leather you would use a medium cap. Some leather is what I call a inbetween it could be either a medium or a large rivet its just a matter if trying it out to see which would hold best.

  • thank you this is very cool

  • Thanks a lot for this video, it helped me a lot!!!

i now know the english word for "ploegmes" or "riemsnijder" which is draw gauge!

  • love the video! was thinking about possibly getting in this feild in the future for horse harness and belts as they are used as a "show" attire for horse riders. just wondering what kind of surface (table) your working on? thanks!

  • good workmanship! great job

  • i bought a belf for myself but it seems to be one hole to big any houshold items i might have to make a hole?

  • use a very sharp knife

  • Yeah my hole punches dont always go through and have been getting dull, i have the mat and granite slab... But for some reason they just start bluntly forcing their way through the leather...

    any suggestions?

  • Hi, sorry for such a slow response. How old are your punches? Have you sharpened them lately? You just may need to sharpen them. I hope that helped if not send me another message.

  • sharpen?? I didnt know you could...

  • These guys rock! Their informative video taught me a lot (there's a dearth of basic leathercraft instructional videos online) and so I called them and spoke with Dave, who helped me for a solid hour! He was nice and friendly and we arranged a shipment over the phone.

I haven't received the product yet but the service provided was AMAZING!

  • Shipment received. This guys are great!

  • Question:

Are rivet guns ever used for leathercraft?

I run a dog kennel and have been thinking of making leather dog collars to order (at the correct size for the specific dog and with the material and buckle the owner selects. I'm not really sure how to get started at this - I've been selling leather collars from wholesalers for a while and have never had a problem adding more holes with a rotary hole punch, but I'm thinking that making my own could increase my margins and product quality.

  • If you can recommend any starter kits or products from your website I'd certainly be interested!

  • There are some starter kits. It depends on how much you want to invest in the kit and what you want to do. Do you want to just put together kits? Want more tools to be a little more creative? The kits range from $40-$1,000 depending on what you want in your kit. Some of the numbers are 55507-00, 55509-00, 55510-00, 4899-00, 55512-01 check some of those out.

  • Hi, I haven't heard of a rivet gun but they do have some riveting machines which i don't believe you'll need. All you really need is a setter and anvil. Which will cost you like 6 bucks. You will punch your holes and set the rivets. Its easy to set the rivets. You just need some leather, rivets and the setting tools. That will keep your cost down for sure. I hope that helped.

  • Hey, is there a number I could call to talk to you and perhaps even make the order? Personal service is such a plus nowadays and I'd love to work with you!

  • yes there is. Toll free 1-877-782-6820 ask for Dave

  • Thank you for posting this. Leather instructionals are extremely hard to find.

  • That is the biggest damn belt I have ever seen.

  • nice, where can you get the tools of your trade

  • What is the material on the bench you are using? Thanks!

  • Hi, the block on the table is a poly board. We do have smaller ones they save your tools. As for the tools there are various types.

  • Very helpful well-explained video, thank you!
