It would be best to clear/open the airway to be cleared. Always following ABS, Airway, Breathing, Respiration. If the airway isn't clear, CPR shouldn't be advised. If the individual goes unconscious, lower to the floor, open airway as much as possibleby tilting head and chin in an upward position. Next, stand over the individual to perform deep stomach thrust on the unconscious vicitim. Always be certain to check the airway. ASll of this should be done after 911 has been called by a bystander.

Muse Tube- You perform CPR on an unresponsive & non breathing patient who was choking for two reasons.

- Performing CPR  will actually help dislodge the item as the compressions force air out of the throat.

- If the person is unresponsive & not breathing then there are in serious trouble and will require CPR to keep there brain oxygenated. untill you can recussiate them with a defib. AND DO A COURSE BEFORE COMMENTING

Why would you perform CPR on someone with something LODGED IN THEIR THROAT? Checking that the airway is clear is one of the FIRST steps to successfully performing CPR. Performing it on someone with an obstruction in their throat could lodge the object further in.
