What great memories with my dad! We chased SP and Santa Fe freight over the mountains to the Loop! We used to park hear and watch 'em climbing hard up the grades. The Mars light, the rumble, the diesel, the smoke, the grit, the horns!!!
I do miss seeing the Southern Pacific in action. At least I can re-live it in some small way with my N-scale SP trains! :)

@JoaoT805 no kidding those fruit block reefer trains were famious on SP over donnor pass and on Tahapcapi pass I miss the Mrs lights and SP Nathen P3 horns
That reminds me of standing at Glendale, CA station as a train cleared Taylor Yard behind it (heading north) and got under way hard for that long climb on out through Palmdale etc, great stuff.

If UP would have had the attitued like BN and left things be, then It would have been a cool merger, but because UP took over SP like Germany took over poland They forever destroyed SP. Shame things couldn't have worked out differently.
DUDE, what u smokin BN took over ATSF Like germany. UP is so screwed up in the numbering systems. We got patched units 10 years after the merger Atleast i can say i saw Tunnel units unpatched, I cant say that about SD45 OR F45

If i know my railroading correctly on the SP most trains heading up mountain grades had 4 diesels on the front and 6 units at midtrain as helpers on Techahapi and Donner (example the eastbound between Bealville and Cliff that you shot)
