Wonder if there's any interviews with the real Honus around--he was a coach for the Pirates until he was quite old, and would have been around during the radio era, anyway.
@Amebelodon ~ excellent question and awareness. pittsburgh was spelled without the "h" from 1890 to 1911. the "u.s. board of geographic names" changed it by dropping the "h". apparently there was confusion, a dispute, and/or different spellings of the name. a citizens campaign got the ruling reversed.
Him and Ty Cobb were two of the greatest players during the Dead Ball era. I know some people will say Sam Crowford or even Chief Bender but Wagner and Cobb defined
I like how the interviewer says that t.v. has been around since "the 50's" lol try at least 1939. a better comparison would be to tell Honus that it is like having a cinematograph in your home. also Honus had a Penn Dutch-Deutsch dialect and accent.
President Eisenhower told a story about that classic childhood question. What do you want to do when you grow up? Eisenhower wanted to be a big league ballplayer as good as Honus Wagner and his little friend wanted to be president. He ended the story by saying "you dont always get what you want."
This is NOT a "Honus Wagner interview." It's an interview with a contemporary actor who is PORTRAYING Wagner. There is a difference, no? Blurring it shows respect neither for Wagner nor the historical record, particularly when many American high-school students can't identify the centuries in which the American Civil War and World War II occurred. Not to mention other egregious examples of historical ignorance.
I saw a Hounus and me play it was good it was about a boy who kinda got made fun of like Hounus and he woke up one day and saw Hounus you should read the book its awesome oh and still cant believe his card is worth millions I want it
Thats degrading, Honus Wagner died and they got some fucken washed up actor to play him on TV, if Honus were still alive he would kick ur ass...
