Im new to rugby and im am a part of the first youth team in western north carolina. None of us really have any experience so not many people can help me with my kicking. Im playing fly half and i seem to do well. Im drop kicking the ball about 35+/- meters. Is this a good distance????? And also when im kicking the ball whether it be a place or drop kick, should i kick with the point of my toe and cleat? Or should i kick sort of on the side of my big toe?

Best percentage, yes. Best kicker, no. He cant kick further than 40meters, within 40meters he gets it over no problem. Dan Park usually takes the longer kicks.

Francois Steyn will be the best kicker in the world, considering he had a 98% kicking rate last year and he is improving, this combined with his ability to kick over 60m makes him a phenomenal kicker.

I'm just saying that, although he may not be the most consistent kicker, but his ability and percentage last year shows that he can quite easily be the best kicker ever. Except that he has missed from almost right in front on two separate occasions.

One of these incidents was the missed conversion in the 2007 super 14 final. Any self respecting kicker would make it 50 times in a row.

The sharks went on to lose that game by a single point.

spectators can see someone's run-up, follow-through and head position at a game or on tv

the thing that TV & youtube viewers cannot see so well is how the foot strikes the ball - what part of the foot, where it strikes the ball. the camera is in the wrong position and neither chris nor dan specifically refers to those points

i prefer to tilt the ball foreward and line a seam up with either the middle of the post. with me being right footed i prefer when kicking from the left touchline if i line them seam with the far post to curl it in or from the otherside line the seam up for the near post and that also works to curl it round. But same as you say it's what works best for use. thats my won technique which i prefer

That is a good technique..I believe mine is a bit different. I like to tilt the ball a little forward and to the right some, to where if I stand over it, it points to my right shoulder. I get underneath the ball for good hand and with the right tilt, I get a lot more of the ball and it gets great end over end distance.

rofl...cant teach how to kick? just because they have their own style doesnt mean you cant teach them. you can teach technique and positioning. thats what kicking coaches are for....to teach. in many cases "their own style" is incorrect and they can be taught how to it better. i went through a rough period..had a kicking coach retrain me in technique now im cash.
