Correct on the Last name it is of Irish origin, my point is there is a huge difference in Scot and Irish Celtic music. example highland pipes vs Illian pipes.
the hook and melody of this stirring song rouses only passion its such a gem sung by an exponent of meteoric comedic talent that outshines all he has done to date.
Fuck 'em the ould gobshite. If he had the stuff he wud have made it big by now...Love the supergran theme song. Now that was a kickass Billy Connolly Tune!!!!
Mr. Connolly is brilliant AND He's touring Canada and Australia RIGHT NOW! Hope you manage to see him live. I'm going to do everything in my power to make it happen!
The bagpipes are wonderful especially with this song. I used to be in a bagpipe band. I have been looking for this song for years but didnt know it was called Irish Heartbeat! Well done Billy, another no.1 perhaps!!! I have just published a book about olden times in post war Ireland called, 'As Good As I Got' and the words of this song epitamize it. You made me cry. I keep playing it over and over again. Bless you Billy. You have taken me back home!! WOW
He did it on his world tour of Scotland that aired on the BBC in 1990.
This was recorded on his final show of the tour in late 1990 in Edinburgh.
It was included in the vhs box set as a free extra, Vision Video recorded it and Chrysalis record label mixed and distributed it free.
It wasn't originally meant to be included as filming that night went badly, a roadie plugged it in the mixing desk and recorded it, Chrysalis boffins mixed it and we got to enjoy it.
i am english but those pipes make this the best version of this song
