i took the left over wax from a few candles and some collected lint over the weeks from the dryer, packed and layered an old nacho cheese can with the lint and wax.....BAM! burns very long and hot...messy too though
not bad, even the first one that went over 160 deg, would still bacteria in the water. good to know. I did have one question is your canteen cup aluminum or stainless steel?
The canteen cup is stainless steel. I think an aluminum cup would boil water faster. I've been looking for an aluminum one but haven't found one locally yet. From what I've been told the water must boil for a minute to kill all contaminants but I do not know for sure. I'll do some research. Thanks for the comment! And the sub! cheers!
excellent experiments! through my experiment, the wax had soaked all the way through the cotton... i find it interesting that you didn't have that same effect as i can see in the video it hadn't soaked all the way through... what are your thoughts about why that may have occured?
I think that when the wax is really hot it soaks all the way through the cotton, also when it sits in the hot wax too long.
I found that if the wax is not as hot and you quickly dip them it only coats the outer sides of the cotton. I think I was just in too much of a hurry and didn't take my time at first. But I learned a lot. thanks again for the excellent idea!
interesting ideas... the reason why i ask you is because i wonder about the changing composition of wax at different degrees of temperature... similar to say sugar? Did you find the wax more fluid at higher temperatures?
yes, just like thermos cooking....perfect. especially if you need to cook one place and make camp in another place for one reason or another.

indeed! figured I'd use what I'd normally throw away anyways, and put it to good use.
