  • My pick to win would have been Hugo.. :(

  • TINTIN DIDN'T WIN

    BLEAH.

  • :)

  • I would like either of John William's scores to win... He's still the man... Tinker is fine, but it seems quite out of touch somewhat... The Artist is very derivative of the old swing pieces, though very enjoyable I have to say... Hugo, it's fine, but it doesn't feel memorable... Because when you play it, you don't have the immediate click that it's Hugo... you could've mistaken it for Ratatouille... so, just saying....

  • Please let "The Adventures of Tintin" be that winner.

  • I love the Tintin OST. The music has such a comical feel.

  • @PlaceWondrous I saw the movie and loved it. The OST is nice for a movie and all, but as a work of art it's pretty pathetic. The theme depends completely on it's French feel to be memorable and I would expect more then an accordion and nice string background for the OST nominee. Though I really like the feel of the songs, any mediocre composer could've written them. Same with the Artist song- LOVE it as a song, but as a soundtrack, it's only okay.

  • Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is very provacative, really alamrs you and gets you interested

  • They forgotten the score from Alexandre Desplat (for HP7), happily they remember John Williams, he should win for War Horse.

  • Hugo is honestly one of the worst, cheapest soundtracks I've ever heard. The Artist is great, but not as a soundtrack. John Williams obviously has the most talent! I think I would vote either Tintin or War Horse.

  • @gabriellesongwriter how come you think Hugo is the worst cheapest sountrack you've ever heard? Alongside the film, it's, in my opinion, an incredible theme. I don't know whether you've seen the film but I highly recommend you to see it first before you judge the theme.

  • Abel Korzeniowski deserved to be nominated

  • I love the part at 05:20. That scene puts a smile on my face. It goes from this grumpy chase to Django Reinhardt happy-go-lucky. Such an amusing contrast.

  • I still can't believe DH2 didn't get nominated =x But out of these 5, Hugo seems like the best.

  • War horse score is sooooo boring

  • Hugo!!!

  • of course "The Adventures of Tintin" will win. it's not so good but better than other nominees.

  • @homelandless I think (unfortunately) "The Artist" will win......cause it's their darling and it's "oh so magnificent".

  • @homelandless Well, the Artist won.

  • Desplat's masterpiece score for Harry Potter should have been nominated and won.

  • @Winduct So many great scores this year went MIA with the academy. HP part 2, Moneyball, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Sometimes, I don't understand the clusterfuck that is the music branch. It was really necessary to give John Williams 2 noms? He's a genius, a national treasure if you will, but 2 noms is way too much. Specially considering that Tintin is good, but not award worthy, in my opinion.

  • @thejhornerfactor I agree with everything you said except the part with Moneyball and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

  • @Winduct and I'm glad you don't agree with me on that. You know, what moves the world is the different tastes, opinions, personal views, etc.. I personally found both scores really amazing and professionally done. Moneyball hast this great minimalistic approach, where is not telling you what's going on with the movie, but instead, is there watching with you, as a guidance. Dragon Tattoo is just fucking brilliant, just as Social Network was. Thanks for your comments :)

  • @Winduct I can't remember last time I even slightly agreed with the nomination picks. They always do a lousy job. Obviously we all have different taste etc, but it seems like they're not even taking the time to listen to what's out there and submitted. It is a NO-brainer that Desplat's HP7 pt1 should've been at least nominated. In my opinion, also a clear winner.

  • @TheOpinionater meant pt2 of course:). Although pt1 is slightly better and definitely should've been nominated last year, over "King's Speech". It would've been a tough choice between "Inception" and "HP7" though.....Still surprized that "Tron" wasn't nominated and that "Inception" didn't win.

  • @TheOpinionater surprised*

  • The five nominees are excellent, but I have an opinion :

    5th: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (Emotive, but something is missing...);

    4th: The Artist (Beatiful swing themes, but seems to be copied from the old swing titles.);

    3rd: Hugo Cabret (Original style, excentric and folk.);

    2nd: War Horse (Really emotive and touching!);

    1st: The Adventures of Tintin (John Williams has been able to compose a music for the greatest old comic in a cinematic context. No one else could have been able to do it!)

  • @TechmixerFC HP7, better than all the above...

  • @TechmixerFC I loved your comment!

  • What is the track called at 2:20?

  • @famousgirl9x9 That's the last track from the "The Artist" soundtrack and is called "Peppy and George" :)

  • HUGO!!!!!!!!!!

  • HUGO!!!!!!!!!!

  • Go John Williams!

  • Im hoping John Williams will receive his 6th Oscar but I think Ludovic will win for The Artist. I dont think Hugo or Tinker Tailor should have been nominated. Hugo is quite boring and Tinkers music sound too simialiar to the scores that Alberto does for the Pedro Almodovars Movies. I think the scores to W.E. and Girl witdragon tattoo should have been nominated instead.

  • I prefer Hugo, too. I Hope Howard Shore wins.

  • Ive got to say, my first instinct is Hugo, The War Horse main theme is terrific though, but the rest of the score left me a bit meh. The Adventures of Tintin is closely my second favourite after Hugo

  • Hey! It sounds like Ludovic Bource has copied 'Sing, Sing, Sing' by Benny Goodman! Unfair!

  • Brilliant music! I can't decide who should win, but Hugo caught me first, so, go Hugo!
