Im not surprised they were "missing" They're like 2 football fields away from each other which wouldnt have happened in a real battle, either way its still cool.
Nice video. It's really too bad that the tactics of the Civil War were too far behind the technology of the time. Fighting in lines, etc. But it really is fascinating to learn our history. 20th MAINE!!!
So during a reenactment, is ear protection used? I shoot rifles weekly at competitions, and I can't imagine what it would sound like having a musket go off next to your ear in formations.
they can't miss that many of times they LOL. Ha yeah in the war they could. Dude you go shoot a smoothbore musket with a round and see if you hit anything ;) and then we will have some competetion. because i do shoot competetion with the north and south skirmish association
damn 90* thats hot thats why we wear long underwear and im not trying to gross u out but we wore it cause it was like a sponge it would get all the sweat off of us thats what i heard and it works
The narrator needs to brush up on his history a bit on confederate uniforms and supply lines. This is why I can't talk to "taters" sometimes at the events. Although you stated you're 16, join a regiment, and brush up on your history a bit! =) I forget how small the events are out west. I'm used to events with 5,000-20,000+ troops in the eastern theatre.
Okay, That reenactment was 100 degrees or more. The men out there are in wool pants and jackets, some with wool vests, a cotton shirt and a wool or leather hat. No matter what size you are, you will be sweating buckets. Don't show your immaturity by trying to prove how tough you are by making fun of people.
Thats what separates us hardcore guys from the rest. We WANT to be as miserable as they were. I do it for every experience, no matter how uncomfortable!
they don't order us but we are generally good sports and we are told when we are winning or losing the battle so we will generally fall when we feel like it or when they tell us where we are supposed to take a lot of casualties but they don't tell us that we have to.
The pellets would burn up in the barrel and anything that would survive the initial blast of gunpowder would be to hard and cause serious injury. sometimes during tactical battles there are US Army drill sergeants that judge if they accept an invite but those are rare.
I die when we are told what the turning point of the battle is or if there are cannons going off directly in my path or if alot of rifles seem like that they are pointed at me.
It ruins a reenactment when a whole company of troops fire their muskets and only 2 guys take a hit...I will also die is there were massive casualties in the area of the battle that my unit is placed... gotta love the grape shot!
I agree about the Canister (mid 19th century version of Grape shot) but also We take in the inaccuracy effect and I don't know what it's like in RevWar but We Yanks and rebs are good sports and we will fall when we feel it is more historical and deem necessary.
Well Yeah, a company in ACW reenacting is about 20-30 men-under-arms, at most at a single event. Most times though since reenactors live spread out range from 10-20.
also if we did it like that the Reenactment wouldn't last that long because out of interest to the "taters" (ACW reenactor term for spectater) so we just do how much would proportionately make sense to make the battle last.
I've been talking with a lot of people in the crowds and most say they would rather see shorter battles with more casualties than long drawn out battles with few casualties. Just something to think about.
@h2oDomination not excatly normanl your company commande rwill give you a number this number reprosenting a volley, the simpliest way too die is if you ran out of ammo thats happened too me multiple times at reenactments
Great job on the filming. I can't wait to attend another here in Oregon. Caught one last year and had a great time. Keep up the great work. Finsterfoto

Muskets aren't that loud at all with just powder. It's only loud when you have a bullet in there.
