I work security and have on many occasions been falsely accuses of various civil rights violations. Because of this I make a habit of trying to get the people I'm dealing with on one of the surveillance cameras and have considered getting a personal "button cam" youtube is full of video claiming police brutality where there is none so I can see why some cops don't like being recorded but if you are in the right you shouldn't worry about it.

The police are a criminal gang. They refer to us as "Civilians" not citizens. While the vast majority of police do not abuse people, they will not oppose those who do. they do have the right to record, but are being harassed for doing so. a lot of people will not stand up to authority and are not willing to exercise their rights because they will run into red tape or they dont know that they can do so. Cops can lie to pursue justice, they have no incentive to film themselves and have always protected their own over citizens.

"Cops" as well as every branch of the military refer to you as civilians because they have taken an oath to maintain peace and serve you in any way possible . The police are held to a higher standard than any other public service. But like any job, there are the people that ruin it for the rest of the decent ones. In all of these cases, believe me there were 1000 officers that would have acted differently.

Citizens have rights and responsibilities, and various police forces throughout this country have demonstrably proved time and time again that they will disregard those rights and responsibilities in the course of their duty.
This is not the case of a few bad apples. This is institutionalized abuse because there's no real recourse.

The police are a criminal gang. They refer to us as "Civilians" not citizens. While the vast majority of police do not abuse people, they will not oppose those who do. This makes them accomplices in the assaults and violations of civil rights. DA's across the country enable this bad behavior by not prosecuting these assaults as the felonies they are.

No, not as long as taking the video doesn't impede what they are doing. I had the same problem with the NY FD a couple of years ago, and in that case they were leaving a building where there was no fire. Couldn't see why it mattered, but I didn't push the issue--axes and all :).

i think if the camera man is trained for the purpose of unbias wide shot filming than it could be beneficial to protecting police (esp if perps know filming is standard) to deter someone from firing. and it protects people from a cop so full of adrhenaline there not thinking b4 a shot or from the ones who use a badge as a bully reasoning to be forceful or even using verbal abuse in an arrest environment. my point..train the cameramen intensly & it could work on all accounts.., laurabelievein

Cops have had a good run at accelerating their power, popularity and funding since 9/11. This has of course been at the expense of the public's constitutional rights (that are NOT given, and can therefore NOT be taken from us by the local, state or federal government) and we are now reaping the rewards of this huge mistake. 9/11 was all about grabbing global control and that starts locally. I like the Preakness arrest, the cop says its illegal to record voices, or anything else. What a joke. These guys are quick to state that "the law says something" but try to ask them a question about the law and they'll tell you its not up to them, they're not attorneys. But, if they feel threatened by a citizen with a camera, then they *know* all the laws pertaining to video recording.
When seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.
