@PoppinFreshMe I think you're thinking about this the wrong way. Religion isn't just about superstitious beliefs, it's also about social networking. Being an atheist, rational as it may be, can be very lonely. It's easy to feel you're alone, awash in a religious world. There has been a concerted effort in recent years to unite atheists, to give us a sense of community. That's what you're seeing. Has nothing to do with priests or rituals. Just unity.
Love Hitchens, but he goes astray on IRAQ, he urges on the 82nd airborne yet like many politicians you won't see his daughter/son become Sgt. Hitchens will we.....
The last 10 minutes is kinda sad. Hitchens ducks or misses the point of some of the questions: why is *violence* the correct way to deal with Islamic expansionism & terrorism? Surely there are other options available to a well educated, psychology-literate western civilisation with resources, other than to kill mere thousands of fundamentalists? Either you commit to a kind of genocide, or you use more subtle means. The question becomes far more interesting at this level.
@un2mensch I think Hitchen’s point was that you can't be diplomatic with the theocrats who are already waging war on you (as they are not rational or reasonable), and it doesn't qualify as a kind of genocide, any more than the wiping out of the Nazi party constituted a genocide against the German people rather it was their liberation from the worst kind of tyranny. The enemy to which Hitch refers is not the average Muslim but specifically the fanatic theocrats.
@DriveByBacon yeah, because obviously, all devout Catholics are savage theocrats and never in the history of the world did a theocrat seek diplomacy at all.
@ChristopherHitchslap Thank you for posting this in totality; I've only been going by the brief glimpse of Hitch destroying the leftist/MoveOn.Org masochist for some time.
great video and Hitch....thank you for encouraging me to think and question and be skeptical in a positive way
