  • Hi i have a mpd 32 , how are you doing this that the notes that you play do continuous replaying?

    thank you for writing back

    cheers

  • i want wan.

  • Is really amazing!

  • How exactly do u practice playing a beatpad? Is there some sort of finger technique for playing on the fly?

  • I make beats and i want the quality to sound better. what program do you use to master your tracks? and if you do, would you be able to make a short tutorial on how to do it?

thanx! love your work with intuition and dumb, Huge fan!

  • Nice

  • hey.. um.. i was wondering, would ur template work on the akai mpk61 pads??

  • Sick vid Equal! My and a friend of mine have been making some Native instruments videos. Search the departure maschine if you want to check it out. Thanks if you do! If not enjoy the unreal vid by Equalibrium

  • help me bro...im a beginer..just bought a brand new mpd32 and i think 1000000 ppl have the same proble like me..my note repeat doesnt work...im using reason 5 wtf i do wrong or is it my mpd???and one more question????u seem to touch just a little your mpd,how the hell???i must kick real hard my pads to work!!!1HELP US!!!!URE A REAL MPD MASTER.tHANKS!!!

  • Verry impressive.

  • What program are you using? I think what you're doing is great! I have an mpd32 as well but I don't know how to function it as well as you do.

  • Sweet

  • I have a band. Can I plug the USB cable directly into my drummer's asshole to make him play better?

  • @Random927349 Depends on the audio interface you are using. There might be a slight latency. If the device has ASIO I don't see there would be any issues unless you have wack drum programming skills and use shitty drum samples. Try it. If no luck film it and up it youtube showing the process you used maybe one of your subscribers can help you trouble shoot? I dunno. Good luck tho.

  • @Equalibeats lol.... brilliant

  • @Random927349 I would also recommended letting him plugging it into his own asshole. Why should you do all the dirty work when you have to figure out all the technical stuff.

  • what daw do you use?

  • can i do the vocals with that?

  • @DS2555 Its not a matter of the instrument/device it's more of a matter of what the software can do.

  • can the mpd26 do the things this is doing?

  • Are the pads responsive like the MPC?

  • @1892Drod yes. They are fine as stock. But even more sensitive after you mod them with the kit they sell at mpcstuff dot calm. Get the Fat pads and the CorkX stickers that fill the gap on the inside between the pad and the sensor. I made this video before I modded it. as you can see it works fine here.

  • @1892Drod it also really depends on your external audio device or soundcard. You need one with low latency. At least below 10ms. Default stock soundcard in a computer will give you 40ms delay. You wanna get it under 10ms to feel responsive.

  • @1892Drod Any audio device or soundcard that supports ASIO will do this

  • I own a USB Soundcard (Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). I guess I won't be able to get a latency below 10 ms for the akai mpd 32 scince I can't plug it to the external soundcard, right?

  • Does the akai mpd 32 only own a usb plug or does it also own a midi out?

  • DOES THE MPD32 COME WITH FACTORY SOUNDS SUCH AS DRUM KITS AND POSSIBLY LOOPS?

  • @jpribbleNY1 none of the mpd series come with sounds, they are only controllers for programs like fl, reason and ableton

  • @k3tr0s So why dun we just buy something cheaper like the MPD16? Wots the diffrent anyway?

  • @SchwinSuthisuvann It depends on if you want the knobs and sliders to control aspects such as EQ in real time, the mpd 16 only comes with the pads if I remember correctly.

  • Yo is this compatible with logics studio????

  • @KALInardoDaVinchi anyone asking that question doesnt use Logic. its midi, of course its compatable.

  • @technicalerr0r yea i don't use it. I wuz planning on buying it. Thanx man

  • I have a question. Are there any more drumcomputers that are able to save some samples into, so u can take it with u and just attach it to an adaptor to put the power on and just one cable to the box and just jam it out??? So that there's no actual computer needed, cuz i NEED one.. thx

  • @tristansenoc3000 yes, lots and lots and lots. they are called Samplers. look up: AKAI MPC, Roland SP, Korg do a few aswell. Akai MPC1000 or MPC500 are excellent starting points.

  • Impressed !

  • Are you sampleing all these sounds? Or getting them from a program?

  • cool bro,i wanna buy it now

  • track at 1:30 is super sick love the vibe man. great live shit.

  • u are fucking amazing

  • can this go analog?or you need the computer? i have a laptop and all with FL, but i want one that can go both ways.

  • @michaeljackson407 made for computer. There is a unit called "Beat Thang" that does what you are talking about.

  • im having trouble with mobius. first, when i dowloaded it it wasnt a vst is was like a program on its own. second its only recording of my computers inbuild microphone not of 'system sounds' so if i mute my speakers it dosn't recored nothing.. this is making the recordings sound muffeled.. any help!?!

  • Good shit

  • I have a template. FL template that is already setup. With a tutorial and pics and vids to show you how to get it going. Im offering to those who cop an album off my bandcamp. equalibrum dot bandcamp dot com

  • Hey bro, nice mess. I love that!!! I saw this video a few days ago, read your tutorial and became crazy with this Mobius stuff. I'm using a basic midi keyboard and run it on Fl studio but I really don't understand how to use and set up the midi2querty plugin. If this message comes to you and you have 1 and a half minute to give me a hint, i'll appreciate. Peace from Belgium

  • I listened to some of your music you make some nice beats. I have a question though: How do you map your mpd pads to work with abletons drumrack pads. Currently the way mines is mapped out of the box when i hit a pad on the mpd it hits a rand pad on the ableton drum rack. Also could you do a brief tutorial on how you set you mpd up with ableton. Thanks in advance. By the way BEST FOOL is a dope track.

  • @mikeannike thx man. prolly the best thing to do is look up drum rach tutorials on youtube. From what I imagine you start with bank 1 on the MPD and set pad 1 to trigger C0. Not sure what midi note number that is..One way to do it is in the drum rack load up all the banks with sounds. Then you just work your way up the pads and have each pad hit the next note on the keyboard. I'm more of an FL user soon to switch to maschine.

  • Hold up.. on amazon their are 2 items that seem to be a mpd 32

    Akai Professional MPD32 MIDI/USB Software Control Surface - $299

    -by akai PROFESSIONAL

    and

    Akai MPD32 USB/Midi MPC Pad Controller - $249

    - By Akai (no professional)

Can someone explain the difference? Thumbs up so somebody who knows what's up sees this.

    -thanks

  • I loved it

  • this is SICK man... totally digging it.

  • Reminds me a bit of DJ Shadow.

  • @Supralobe Agreee with you and its cool!!!

  • 1:30 - end fucking love those beats sounds fckn gudd I was rapping to it until it ended lml! I vibes to it well yur really gudd bro

  • What Are You Looking At?!?!? Peace From N.Y.C.

  • Dope!

  • @Equalibrum could you do this same looping technic and get the same results using ableton live? i ask because im using win7 32 bit and mobius doesnt seem to be working but i heard ableton lets you do live looping without touching the computer so i was just wondering if you would say ableton is a good alternative or if its completly different?

  • @Equalibrum could u live loop with reason also, or do you have to use fl studio? i have your mpd live setup for fl studio and its very hard to setup and get working like your doing here in this video.

  • @Equalibrum u know u can just have ur mpd send program change to switch kits?

  • @gumdrops27 In FL? How do you do this? The way I hae it working is I have a bunch of FPC kits loaded up in the stepsequecer. Im toggling through which one the MPD is controlling by hitting the FF and RW which is essentially hitting the up and down arrows on the qwerty keyboard using the MIDI2QWERTY VST switching which FPC kit the MPD is controlling. A simpler way would be dope..tho this works perfect as well.

  • @Equalibeats

Yea dude there's a much easier way. Program change msgs 0-4 would allow you to select plugin channels 1-5. For example a program change message "0" would select the first step sequencer plugin. Program change "1" would select the second plugin and so on. Just program your fader buttons to send prgam changes 0-whaterver number depending on how many kits u have in the sequencer and u can select your kits without even leaving the mobius screen. PM me if u need me to explain better.

  • @gumdrops27 I'm totally lost dude! You have to explain it better cause I do not understand at all. A video tutorial would be even better.

  • Please help me out or do a video tutorial on how to send program change to switch kits, how to program kits and toggle thru them up & down by using the FF and RW buttons, and can you program different sounds in all the banks (A-D)? Same problems with my Reason 5. Sorry I have so many Q's.

  • yes FL studio + Mobius loop pedal VST (though im looping with 2 pads instead of a pedal) + MIDI2QWERT VST totoggle through my kits with the FF and RW buttons.

  • do you need a program to use this?

  • music dont like, b utt the mike is cool

  • Will this work with the M-Audio Axiom 49?

  • @S4rockz yes. it will work with any midi controller. just have to link all the functions. You could technically do it with just midi keyboard having a few keys dedicated to the looping funtions.Ive done it before in my early days of experimentation.

  • I have been trying to this with my mpd32 and ableton live but can't figure it out any ideas or could you point in the right direction?

  • @minimuska

    /watch?v=CfNOnrqaYUA

Check this vid out you might get some startup ideas

  • HELLFYRE CLUB!:D

  • How do u get such clear sound on the video?

  • Do you recomend me getting one? how many presets does it have? What inputs and outputs do it have?

  • u guys shud buy his work. Super dope beats and the template rocks. I had to do a lot of tweaking to make it work with my oxygen 61 but sure enough it does now after some personalization.

  • @gumdrops27 cool glad you got it to work man! yeah once you understand whats going on and it clicks its really easy to modify it. Thanks for supporting man!

  • This is so sick.......how long have u been playing whit that....i can bounce my head to this all day

  • @MrQbanD been trying to figure out a way to live loop on the MPD for about 2 years before I made this. This was the first thing I made when I figured out how i was going to do it.. My older video on the mpd24 was done different.

  • This is so sick......

  • Sick skills bro !!

I was about to set up my own mini studio with an Akai mpd32, a Korg nanokey midi keyboard, a sony v3 microphone and an hp dv2000 laptop. I just wanted to know what kinda sound card I could get tht would go with the setup and not cost much. Ive seen a few M-audio ones but not sure which 1 is the best.

Plus would I actually be able to sync all these devices together with my laptop n operate them thru fl studio ?

  • I think you just sold me on the MPD32. I was looking at the APC40 w/ LPD8 or Midi Fighter. I think this might end up being my first purchase, though.

    Great work, as well.

  • EQUAL KILLLS IT !!!!!

  • Excellent setup! From 1:30 onwards is GENIUS! Have you seen or tried renoise? there is a tool created for it to work more like an MPC2000XL . Im trying to figure how you do this and i guess its FL > midi2qwerty > Mobius > MPD32 (triggers FL & Mobius) ??? is this right

  • @SevenScientist correct. FL hosts the sounds and kits and routes everything to Mobius. The tricky part is having the MPD32 control the FPC kits and Mobius simultaniously..being able to switch FPC kits and still maintain funtionality with mobius. Everyone runs into the same wall. When you try to set it up you'll see what I mean.

  • @Equalibeats I am just starting out, i will have the MPD32 soon, just would like to know whats the best programs and software i should start with just so i can comfortably play around and get comfortable with the set up and then move into more bigger things

  • @Equalibeats What is the Mod kit you got for you MPD32 pads, i saw in your other video you had a blister because you had to hit it to hard,

  • @siracabacajr mptstuff dot com. get the fat pads.. it comes with these Cork stickers you put between the inside of the pad and the sensor to fill the air gap. they are measured to fill the gap perfectly. Also the Fat pads stick up alot higher. I highly recommended it.

  • So this works just like a MIDI keyboard? And you can also play back a beat or something and mess with it live on this?

  • @michaeljackson407 yes it works like a midi keyboard. But you asign drum sounds and samples to the pads so you can lpay them in. Everything on it you can assign to whatever you want in any program you are working in. You normally dont use it like this. I just have it set up this way so i can play stuff in and loop what im doing live on the fly. Normally you just record into the sequencer piece by piece. Experimenting with ways af actually "performing" beats. Not the standard way of doing it.

  • @Equalibeats it works good and not many people do it like this. Which is why it has so many views because I think ALOT if producers are looking for a way that works like this to perform material. Lotta people jsut have preprogrammed loops and patterns and all they do is mute and unmute them and tweak knobs and effect to perform them This way you can do it right on the fly however you like freeform like an instrument. takes practice but so does most instruments.

  • @Equalibeats Look up "Melo X, the highest remix live studio" ....So what was he doing here? Improvising on a played back recording that he had done, and assigned each part to different pads? And how was he messing with the reverb? Haha, I know i ask a lot of question, just want to be sure this is what I need. And how is it in FL, do you know? Thanks mate

  • @michaeljackson407 well using the mpds with FLstudio in a traditional fashion like using it to record into the step sequencer works great. Mostly everything in FL is assignable and its very easy to assign whatever you want to the MPDs. They work great with FL. But they also work great with reason. Ableton Live..etc... its whatever program you are comfortable with. If you want a controlle that has is own saoftware peep the Maschine. alot of MPC users are switching to it.

  • teach mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh @!@!@!@!@ :)

  • What program are you running with that?

  • nice man !!

  • PLEASE CHECK OUT THE 1ST 2 ROCK SONGS IVE PRODUCED ON MY PAGE MADE WITH ABLETON 8 & THE AKAI MPK MINI

  • genius man....I can say you made new instruments.

  • dope demo, dope skills, dope info! thanks a lot! P

  • mpd26 or mpd32?I dont see much of a difference but I want to know your opinion

  • mpd26 or mpd32?I dont see muh of a difference but I want to know your opinion

  • where i can buy 1 ofthis?..

  • At 4:12 my favourite part! Amazing work man, god I need to get myself an mpd32, it's too expensive too make electronic music, why did I get involved with this... I guess it's because it's just way too awesome when you see amazing skills like this, you're a hero man, you've got great live skills, and you make very good sounds. Cheers for you!

  • @zenbe

It really doesn't have to be that expensive. I got started out with an oxygen 61 and a nanopad. Honestly just try to make do with what you can get your hands on as long as it's decent. You find that using controllers/software that aren't widely popular force you to be more creative and make something unique out of it. Hence Equalibrum's genius use of FL Studio for live looping which FL studio is normally known to be quite useless in live performance/looping.

  • huaahaa.. this is fun! :D

  • hi im starting on the on the music and i was thinking to get a microkorg and an akai mpd 32, but i dont have so much money, so which one would be the best choice to start?

    THANKS

    (sorry, my english is terrible)

  • SOooooooooooooo im not goonna candy coat stuff and act like a goon but i got beats im 13 i need feedback so i can get better so rate comment subscribe plz help me get more subscribers thx umm im not spamming..

  • Sickk

  • How do you get it to auto loop like that??

  • How do you get proficient with this? I mean the live drumming. I have a Padkontrol that I use, and I know it all comes down to practice, but it's kind of hard to practice when you don't know what exactly to do. Is there some type of books to read or tutorials on the net? Should I just practice traditional drum techniques like I would on a real drum set?

Thanks, and nice beat, I'll be buying your album soon.

  • @ForestDweller80 practice I guess. I know traditional drum technics which kinda of come into play i guess. But its totally different. I dunno... its weird. Ive never seen any tutorials. I jsut mess around alot and jam out with sounds while coming up with ideas for drum patterns...

In this vid i pretty much made this entire song in FL...then reverse engineered it to figure out how i was going to perform it live using the looping technique. But its all practice. Just like any instrument.

  • @Equalibeats I'm a little confused, for some reason when I use the record function, there's no output until I let what I just recorded to loop, can you tell me how to fix this?

  • @ForestDweller80 also alot of it is where you choose to put your sounds on the pads and which fingers you dedicate to playing those pads. for instance I have a way that i always lay out my drums so that the sounds are easy for me to play and makes sense while im playing them. So my snares, kicks, hihats and etc..are always on the same pads.

  • @ForestDweller80 if you dont have it you dont have it

  • @gumdrops27 pay pal?

  • love that little offbeat

  • Hey man, sick beats! I have a question tho, I just got the mpd32 and I'm using Pro Tools and I have mobius but whenever I try and load it, it freezes pro tools and I have to restart my mac. do you know any other way to do live looping?

  • hey, i just turned 15 and i play drums go i gues i've got a pretty good sence of rhythm, and im contantly tapping with my fingers with a good beat (i kinda make up the noises of each finger tap in my head haha) would i be able to ''express'' these beats though this machine? cos i guess when i learn what sound each square makes i'll have it down? this exact machine is just in my price range at £200, is this also worth it?... if i stick at it :) thanks guys

  • @crazykidkieran you can what whatever sounds you want on it and where ever you want. Yes if you are a drummer the playing part will come very naturally. However its totally different then playing the drums. because you can trigger drums and melodic samples at the same time. Its not really how well you play them verses what sounds you choose to put on the pads and how well those sounds can be freely manipulated and still sound natural. THis MPD is a controller. There are no sounds on the device.

  • @Equalibeats oh i think i get it, so you change what sound the pad makes on the computer (by makes sound i mean gets played through the pc) im stuck between this and the novation touchpad, the touchpad is £80 cheaper, which would you recommend? i'l be making dubstep, dance and trance type stuff the most

  • @Equalibeats novation launchpad, sorry my bad

  • @crazykidkieran Depends. Novation launchpad is made for ableton live. If that's the program you'll be using then prolly the launch pad. But that more for triggering premade patterns then actual sounds. Which in your case is prolly what you want to do. Also peep the controller akai makes for ableton. It's like a mix between this and the launchpad. Also made for ableton. Ableton also helped make it with akai.

  • @Equalibeats i've spent the last couple days looking at both and it does seem that the novation launchpad would suit me more but i really cant afford the £300 ableton software... and i've checked the lite version you get with the launchpad and you cant even make a loop! i need to find reasonably priced software that operates with the launchpad, or failing that, operates with the mpd32, you got any ideas?

  • @crazykidkieran Torrents. Watch a crap ton of Ableton tutorials. Or use FL Studio with the MPD32. Not sure man. Im not a huge ableton fan. But i make hiphop beats..and other stuff. They are all pretty much the same..its just the layout and workflow of the program that feels comfortable and makes sense to you. You can do pretty much the same thing in all of them...

  • @Equalibeats alright sweet man, i found a software called macaw? it seems pretty good and it's free, if it does'nt work well i'll just use a torrent for the full version on ableton. cheers for the help man, if i get any good i'll post some video's up on here :)

  • @crazykidkieran Controller meaning it controls whatever software you decide to use with it. With that software you put the sounds on the pads and build kits and sequence the sounds into beats. THis method in this video is mainly me experimenting with ways of actually performing my beats live. It is not how i normally make beats that go on albums. Thos beats take a while and are built in peaces over time. THis was me just taking sounds I already knew fit each other and performing them out.

  • @Equalibeats yo i got a question when i stop working this sumer im going to graba a beat machine probably soemthing similiar to this maybe a newer version but im a little confused as to what software to use and how do i go about getting it could you use like music maker or someting like that and what is recomended for software

  • @crazykidkieran i have the exact same thing as you where i tap and i hear the drum noises in my head! i make beats and i want to get one of these controllers they're awesome!

  • DOPE!!!

  • those are some nice beats thumbs up!!

  • Hey great video. Are the assignable buttons important for what you're doing here? I'm getting an mpd26 and it seems like assignable buttons are the main difference that and the mpd32.

  • this was pretty awesome :)

  • how well does it work with sonar?

  • dude how do stay on beat so well? whenever i play my beatpad i often miss beats by miliseconds and it sounds off. R u using live quantization or something?

  • @gumdrops27 no...no live quantization. Im just timing the loop right. Im not recording to a midi clock...Im looping the clock around me..does that make sense?

  • @Equalibeats

So ur doing a tap to tempo or something? Lol i'm so confused.

  • Will your preset work for one of themore expensive models, like Akai MPD32 ?

  • nice sound, man

  • Damn.

  • can you do this with reason?

  • @darkxdust sure if you figure it out. I tried...couldnt get it to work with it. Kept hitting certain walls...Actually technically no i dont think you can do it because reason doesnt allow you to run VST instrumentals. So you wouldnt be able to run mobius on a mixer track.

  • awesome!

  • @Equalibeats This is awesome!! A friend of mine just gave me an MPD32 yesterday. What advice do you have to get me started?

  • @essjones u are a lucker haha

  • 4:13 WAS BEASTIN!

  • Finally got my shit working! Now to practice....

  • Man I gotta give it up, you have mad skills. I can't figure out the Mobius VST but would it be possible to throw down like this on the pads, and record loops with a mic or instrument at the same time with your setup? Think Dub FX with some pad triggered samples.

  • @Therioz yeah. in the FL mixer you can route external instruments and record them into the loop as well. ive done it with Turntables, Guitiars, Bass...and external hardware keyboards...my ipad..iphone...etc...

Yeah possibilities are limitless. Its dope.

  • hey mate jus wondering how u mapped the mobius pararmeters to the mpd?? plz write bak

  • @MCiwi dude read the video description

  • ive been watching this literally for years and it still amazes me when i come back to it

    fuckin beat mastery

  • Awesome! How do I map the looping function to the MPK 49 pads in Ableton?

  • sick ...your timing is something else.

  • woow you play that mpd like a computer dude !!!! *__*

  • @Equalibeats How were you able to acces all those different samples without switching banks on the controller?

  • Comment removed

  • Wow, did you use a midi pedal (something like BEHRINGER FCB1010) to go loop by loop or just the akai? I didn´t understand it so well cause i´m spanish and my english is not so good...... thanks!

  • @yunyas Pads 13 and 14 are used to contol the on the fly timing of the loop. Like a pedal... But with your fingers instead. It's easier to time the looping that way.

  • @Equalibeats well, incredible.... nothing else to say

  • @Equalibeats Hey man, i used your guide to perform like the way you do in this vid.

Thnx alot by the way :D

But i have a little problem: When i overdub a certain loop and play out the loop after i layerd some samples over it, the samples are not in the same place as where played them. There a little bit earlier, than where i played them in overdub-mode. I don't know if you had the same promblem, but i hope you can help me out.

    Thnx ;D

  • @Equalibeats I just bought the MPD26, but what is the difference between this one and the 26?

  • hey what pad controller would be best for just making beats on the DAW... ?

  • his is a very vague questions with a lot of answers. What DAW are you planning on using it with? Do you like pads or keys better? Do you need alot of knobs, sliders and buttons? Do you want to be able to control the entire program with the controller or just bang sounds in and control automations in a program you are already using? Unfortunately there is no real simple answer. If you want an all in one package. Check out the Native Instruments Maschine.

  • @Equalibeats Im looking to get a digidesign digi 003 to control the DAW... i was just looking for something to tap out some beats on.... I already have a keyboard but i would prefer the layout of the pads.

    and thanks for the reply!

  • @drummingtrumpeteer69 Cool man. Yeah this might be overkill then if your just need some pads. Maybe peep the mpd24, mpd18 or mpd26.

  • @Equalibeats alright is the maschine you mentioned... is that just like the mpd32?

  • @drummingtrumpeteer69 Yes accept it comes with the program it is designed to control. Which in a way is a good thing because you can use it without touching the computer all that much. Almost every feature in the program can be contrilled with the device. SO it is very much like using a hardware beat machine like the MPC's. The MPD's are mainly just to use like a midi keypboard..but with pads instead. And you can assign the sliders. The Maschine is a great all in one unit.

  • Wow, hey bro... you got some skills! Great video

  • can the akai mpd32 sample from vinyls like the mpc?

  • @FromHereToYaEarTV The MPD is a controller for a computer. I can control pretty much any beat making program out there. So yes if the program you are using it can sample (most of them do) then yes. You dont use the MPD to actually record chop edit the samples tho. You do that with the mouse and keyboard (its easier that way anyways) you use the MPD to play the samples is. tho everything is assignable on the MPD. So you can technically do whatever you want with it.

  • @Equalibeats word cause i wanna do dope sample beats like premier, just needed to know that cause i was thinking about getting that or the mpc500

  • @FromHereToYaEarTV if you have an ipad a great $20 replacement for an MPC is the app called "beatmaker" its like having an mpc500 on crack. EXCELLENT app. And cheap if you have an ipad. The ipad is great cuz its like like the perfec combo between hardware and software. It feels like you are using hardware but with a software interface, its dope and fun.

  • @Equalibeats im sorry the app is called "Beatmaker 2" and its legit as fuck. I love it.
