Good to see many tradiotinally corps style marching bands embracing show style band marching style and dance. They sound good. But if they want to entertain like a historicly black college or university they should focus more on their technique. But awesom! A friend of mine marched at MSU and he played the tenors (quints). GOOD JOB MSU!!!

But thats what a marching band is all about. Having a good time and entertaining the crowd. A super serious marching band may look good, but the crowd will pick the fun loving marching band any day over the serious ones.

Also i will give you that bands like the chips have their purpose. They're good at entertaining. One of my best friends is a tuba player. But to say that they can compete with us is just being Naïve. Did you hear the crowd go crazy? it seems like they were entertained to me.

@K3V1NMSU dude its a football game. they are performing for the fans not a panel of judges. in fact when college marching came in excistence the goal was to entertain the football crowd with music that they were familiar with and dance a little with. college or high school marching band was never meant to be all about being serious and perfect. only the military bands were. but dci changed thst up which now makes most college bands less entertaining

@TheDragonmaster18 ok, a few things. 1.) college marching (at least at MSU) came into existence before football and was comprised of civil war veterans hence the military style. This tradition continued until today. So DCI didn't change anything. College band (real ones) ARE meant to be all about being serious and perfect 2.) People want a band with skill, MSU has more of it than most bands- this makes them entertaining. 3.) do your research and don't talk about what you don't understand.

@K3V1NMSU i have done my research and the research i have found says nothing about michigan state. and people of today do not want to see a band that just stands there playing music. they want entertainment which is what HBCU's do best. and in fact HBCU bands have been around longer that college football as well. some of their roots come from the malitary the only thing they changed was the dancing which didnt happen until 1946.

Just google MSU spartan band and click the first link, then click history, that'll tell you all you need. (you must suck at research cause that took me all of a min.) And i don't know if you're deaf or what, but that crowd seemed pretty entertained to me. And MSU doesn't just stand there, but it's not your fault you didn't know that. (you suck at research)

Our band did thriller for our Halloween show and we had the cheerleaders and colorgaurd as zombies and they crawled up into the stands and we got to do the dance, it was fun i started laughing at myself cuz i was sure i kept messing up the dance.
