I'm a soldier for the United States Army, currently deployed to Iraq. Been here since May 09, coming home this May. Do I want to be here? No. I'd much rather be with my family and friends back home. The problem is WE as in the USA Government not the people are always sticking their nose in everyone elses business and the American people who work and pay taxes are sick and tired of it. We are the Poor United States because of it. Our budget deficit shows the proof. Let some other country help them. I'm tired of paying more freaking TAXES. Bottom line the funds belong to the AMERICAN people that pay the taxes....enough already.

I hardly think that sending troops to provide security for UN aid convoys, as well as $8 million dollars of aid collected just from americans giving to charitys, would be considered "sticking our nose in their business". Seriously, how cold hearted can you be? I get that you dont want to pay taxes, but to what expense? Letting Haiti "take care of itself"? Do you think that America is a great country? If so, in your mind, what makes America so great?

Jesus Christ...look I have my issues with Obama just like everybody else, but for Christs sake, hes sending millions of dollars of relief to a country that needs it! What is so horrible about that? Would you rather have a president who wouldnt want to help countries in need? Yes, america has its own problems and yes we could use our own funds, but thats whats great about this country. Sad but true....im haitian n unfortunately their is a distinct line btwn the elite/rich n the poor. the governmenent in haiti is corrupt i dont know if i can say the US govenment helped corrupt it or not but the haitian governtment employees have the own laws n decisions and choices and so on if there really cared about the concerns of their poor citizens it would have shown. they have their reasons whether or not its obvious to us or not still the situation at hand is serious and the country

I agree with you damania, we should leave Haiti alone! The truth is, America has given billions of dollars in aid to Haiti. I wish America would not commit millions more in tax payers' hard earned money. The result of all this will be within a years' time Haitians will burn US flags in the streets and claim America has violated Haiti's soverneignty. This will be the gratitude shown the US for her kindness. I wish we would leave HAITI ALONE, JUST LIKE YOU SAY.

the population you are talking about is minisule, I hope you realize that. Yes, it is a tragedy. But to try to play down the Haiti tragedy by comparing it to these american kids (who despite their own problems are much better off than the kids in Haiti) is wrong. I've given 5% of my income this past year to 3 different charities, as well as an extra $75 to help the Haiti red cross. It's a small amount, but its better than complaining on youtube.

I'm a soldier for the United States Army, currently deployed to Iraq. Been here since May 09, coming home this May. Do I want to be here? No. I'd much rather be with my family and friends back home. But I know that I have to be here, because I promised to answer the nations call, whatever call that may be. Dont lecture me on freedom of speech. I know all about it. I dont make that much money. Dont assume that I dont care about this country. I gave up 4 years of my life to protect it.

I have my issues with the leaders too, believe me. But I have enough sense to know when they are doing a good thing and when they are doing a bad thing, instead of blindly accusing them of being wrong with everything they do. I hardly think that sending relief to Haiti is a bad thing, regardless of my political opinions. Yes we have our own problems in the US. But there are things more important in this world than making sure Baby Boomers get extra retirement money.

People had children after the war naturally, not because of some govt mandate. The millions of soldiers that came home from the war wanted to start familes, as well as move into the suburbs, which before WWII didnt exist. And they did, hence, the Baby Boom generation.

You know what is upsetting? That in our own country it took forever to help the Katrina victims and they still do not all have housing, we have people on the streets, need health care reform, and need more monthly income for the retired, but for some reason Obama can find monies to send to HAITI. Don't be silly. They KNOW that hurricanes will regularly hit The Gulf of Mexico - it's just a matter of time and Katrina, as a storm wasn't particularly serious. The storm itself wasn't the problem - it was the levees breaking. Wait for storm - blow the levee. The Katrinanigz were scattered to the 4 winds with 3000 bucks each and told to piss off leaving prime real estate for the building of a Vegas-style gambling paradise - Google redevelopment New Orleans - the plans are in place.

um katrina was a level 5. Im sure you dont know what that means, but to put it simply, it was a monster hurricane. Hence, levees with faults already will break, hence, more damage to the city. Take a look at the truth. Level 5 was reported, but over the sea. Katrina's actual landfall was NOT critical - the structural storm damage was actually not that serious.
9/11 was an inside job, Moon landings - no probs and MJ, Tupac and Elvis are all dead and there's no such thing as UFOs.
I suppose YOU believe that The Gulf of Tonkin incident WAS just cause for war, Iraqi WMD's really DO exist and will show up one day and that the USS Liberty incident was actually an "accident"?

Whats great about this country is that even though we have our own sets of problems we are willing to set those aside to help our neighbors in their time of need. You can be pissed at the generosity of the american people all you want, but I think "more monthly income for the retired" can wait a little bit while we try to give some kid in haiti some water after not drinking in 2 days, or figure out a way to bury the dead without using bulldozers.
