When in a recession (or worse), the absolute worse thing is to raise taxes. That's exactly what Herbert Hoover did in 1931 and that greatly exacerbated the Depression. Obama wants to weaken the economy so that the government can provide social programs, such as healthcare. Granted, it's a much better idea than weakening the economy for wars unrelated to our security.

Obviously, the best bet is to quit spending ourselves into hyper inflation and get sound economic policies in place. Go RP2008!
