Knowing how it's done doesn't even SLIGHTLY take away the sheer brilliance of his performance - this is comedy magic in it's essence - who else other than the true greats of magic can actually GIVE their cards personalities and make them somehow mischevious - Wonder's deck is literally a spoilt kid trying to get it's own way through his representation of tricks and it's like a 2-man performance. Astounding.
Nothing he does in this video is just random. The "just one card"-thing is him putting a turned card on the bottom of the deck, so that the other side of the deck looks like "the top", before putting the audience cards in. Then by "mistaking" which pocked he'd put the salt in, he could turn the deck over and keep it turned. Clever!

also this trick has a great affect and is easy i will not say how to do it but look at the BACK OF THE CARD at 0:34 do you realize some thing? perhaps that on both ends a card is turned over? he is tricking you watch closer and think about it
Not gona lie... the audience I pretty annoying. Not the reactions... but the constant callouts and seemingly rude interations. Tommy doesn't seem to mind all too much...so maybe it's ok. (Apart from tht women grabbing the 'magic salt') - but I still can't help find them annoying.
How he turn the card over it's simple watch 0:34, when he takes out the magic salt, I don't want to explain it. Watch 1:09, you will see how he keep turning the same card over.
LOL i think im seein things but at 0.21 well go a bit before, when his gettin tat "extra" card from the girl his other hand with the deck goes down XD maybe a switch? O_O or maybe i am seein things.. blah ;X
@taichischolar Who needs to buy the DVDS we know how it's done. He has a card turned up on the face of the deck so he can insert them face down into a face up deck, and then flips the deck over when he gets the salt out - watch it. He inserts the face up cards next to each other and uses a few double lifts. It's quite easy to do. L and L audience is as annoying as hell though!
@CaraBrimleyRules you're right it's so simple. It's good to have another Tommy Wonder among us. Thank you, Tommy Wonder. When can we turn in to see YOU on TV?
@CaraBrimleyRules oh, don't get me wrong, I was trying to sound sarcastic. What I meant was (other than that your explanation isn't even true and wouldn't work, try it yourself!) that any performance is far more than just the secret. And Tommy Wonder doesn't give a fuck about the secret. I know how it's done and I'm STILL in awe. Try doing that. In order to get there buy his DVDs he explains some thinking behind his stories which is the best reason to buy the set.
@come2u2cu Hehehe, don't worry, I don't need to buy his DVDs I pretty much know how it is all done anyway!! Like his ambitious card I knew he was doing double lifts, & his folding card, I explained when he folded it and how a dupe folded card was already in the box. Others pretend that this is not the method because they want to knock people off the scent! There's nothing like magicians throwing a hissy fit over exposure, I have seen it all :) And yes the true secret is presentation.
@CaraBrimleyRules ok please don't write any more, you're embarrassing yourself. I could go on a long rant about how the card in the box is signed and all that but I'm not even gonna start. life is too short for fighting strangers. all the best with your life, signed: some dude you'll never meet.
@come2u2cu The card in the box is a blank dupe. He has the signed card folded in his other hand & tips out the box into his hand like the shuttle pass where the switched object is retained in finger palm, the dupe folded card is retained in the box, I figured exactly how that is done just by watching. DVDs not needed. Kaps did it in a similar way in some shows. People think the box is gimmicked. It isn't apart from having a folded card preloaded. That's the method on that one :)
@CaraBrimleyRules I wonder... when you listen to music do you go "oh that's easy, he's playing minor, that's why you're crying, idiots, coz it's got a minor third" too? Is life more fun for you without mystery? Don't even bother to answer as I won't read any more of your bullshit, it annoys me how disrespectful you handle your knowledge.
@come2u2cu Well, Friedemann, a minor third wouldn't necessarily make us cry. It's only a semitone in a different place. I don't think we should let ourselves get carried away. Life is more fun with being open and honest. There will always still be mystery no matter how open we are so I guess your question resolves itself. It's mainly magicians and magic students who read here so I don't regard discussing methods as out of place. I'll happily discuss presentation too. Keep smiling :)
That's the genius of good sleight of hand, even when you know how it's done, you couldn't catch a master if your life depended on it. I know every common trick in cups and balls, but I couldn't touch Tommy Wonder's routine with a satellite guided thumbtip. That's what sets sleight apart from grand illusions. All you have to do is buy the box and you can saw a woman in half. It take SKILL to do a good routine like this.
Grand illusion takes a fair bit of skill as well....
the problem with just buying a box and sawing a women in half is that the audience will most likely just think "if I had that special box I could do that too." It takes an immense amount of skill to cause the audience to believe(on an emotional level, not intellectual) you are performing the illusions, rather than that the box is responsible.
Sleight of hand is still a harder art form though. Because you also have to convince them its magic, not jsut fast hands. However, unlike big tricks, you have to do that convincing on top of incredibly difficult sleights and at a much closer proximity to the audience.
there are two parts to every trick, the secret and the performance. With grand illusion, the secret part is almost always simple or done by the assistants. The performance is just as hard with either close up or grand, its just as hard to make the audience care, whether or not its a box on stage or a deck of cards.
However, I agree that saying illusionists have no skill is flat out wrong. They just have a different type of skill thats all. Close up artists have much more technical skill, and stage have way more thatrical prestige. Now, obviously most of the good magicians out there have both of these talents and can therefore do both. Which is best bacause they don't have to worry about arguments like which is harder stage or closeup.
you can find the secret in tommy wonders Visions of wonder.. but i will help you finding out the secret yourself.. pay attention at the deck during the entire permormance..
The video is not longer available. But I know the trick. I got the dvd from Tommy Wonder and he explained the trick. Its a very nice trick. I got the Magic Solt, and a deck of cards!
My english is not so good bu t i will try to explain it. Watch when het puts the 2 cards into the middle , to top card of the deck is
turned over , the when he turn the hole deck you can that the bottom card is also turned over so it must be one of the two card ( top and bottom) turned over.
ok can i can someone pls tell me how to do that reverse i looked up all videos saying Recerse card but all was a bunch of crap this is the real thing so someone pls i can find i good use of that trick :) RIP tommy
Is there a tutorial for this trick?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you may not be qualified to say which is more difficult.
How much experience do you have performing grand illusion? And how much experience do you have performing closeup magic?
All I was trying to say was that it's unfair to say that illusionists do not possess skill, not that either was better/more difficult than the other.
mackd0g 2 years ago
