The name of the tree has been know since 1995, thats the year Tales of Phantasia was released.
ToS and ToP are part of the same timeline, that goes like this:
ToS -> ToS2 -> ToP
ToP is like 1000 years after ToS, and in ToP the tree was there, with the name Yggdrasil. And what Casanuda said too, its an obvious reference to that mythological tree.
From Norse Mythology, Yggdrasil was the tree of life, wich kept the worlds united, such as Asgard, Midgard, Niflheim...
@IrritableGiraffe from what I gather symphonia is related to the word harmony, which is what both mithos and lloyd are trying to do their own way. not sure it's intended that way, but it's one way I like to interpret the title
but, if the giant kharlan tree is the link that connects Sylvarant and Thete'Alla, why dind't the world split into two again during the events of Tales of Phantasia, before Mint restored it??
not all of the tales of series are connected the only thing that connects them are some aspects in the game such as the spirits and the kharlan tree of course but the story line of those aspects differs with each of the tales series. only tales of series that i know of that actually connects the a lot of the series together are the tales the world, vs and i think fandom as well. though i could be wrong...
TotW, ToVS and Fandom are escort titles, as such, they don't add anthing to the story and usually are for cameos and fan service. So no, those don't connect anything.
And Tales games are not connected by anything, with some exceptions (even though they use the same names for Summon Spirits and other stuff)
Tales of Symphonia -> Tales of Symphonia 2 -> Tales of Phantasia
that's wrong... Mithos split the world because the war made the Giant Kharlan Tree wither away, so there was not enough mana for the whole world to exists.
This made 2 worlds, wich were fighting for each other's mana, hence, the ritual of regeneration of the world
Well, Mithos as a boss was disappointingly easy unless fought on a harder mode. And as for the ending itself, it could have been explained more in the game how Tabatha was connected to Martel. All they ever said was that she was a failed vessel for her. I don't know, I might just be ranting, but I felt this was one of the weaker endings in the Tales series, it was pretty cliche xD;
Well.. Tabatha was a doll built to accept Martels soul, which failed, but as the wish of the eternal sword, it worked, and the other souls went into tabatha first, making martel be able to.
The Tree´s Name is Yggdrassil tree, for those who don´t know, having Martel and all those who fought to protect it as her guardian... Symphonia, I believe is the name of the game because Sylvarant and Tethe´alla rose as a new world (Aselia(?)) working armoniously, so they make something like a Symphony
i'm not assuming. The tree name is Yggdrassil. That's how it is called in Phantasia, wich is around 1000 years ahead of symphonia in the Aselian timeline
It is Yggdrassil because it was taken from the Norse Mythology. Yggdrassil in Norse Mythology is the World Tree. Other things taken from Norse Mythology in ToS are: Niflheim, the world of the dead, and Asgard, home of the gods. There are other things but those were all I could pick out from my Greek Mythology class, which briefly talked about Norse Mythology in the back of our book. Its quiet interesting studying on this stuff and then learning my fav game is based in it a bit =]
@Sonicthehedgehog1899 Yes, Tales of Phantasia is the distant sequel to Symphonia and in that game the tree is Yggdrassil, which is also the Norse World Tree, makes sense
Lloyd don't says the name here, but you know... Tales of Symphonia is a prequel of Tales of Phantasia. From there we know that the tree's name is Ygdrassil and that the name of the united worlds is Aselia
The name Symphonia has nothing to do with the tree. It's meant to symbolize the rising and falling of the two worlds' mana, drawing a resemblance to the rising and falling of a symphony.
The tree was named Yggdrasil after Mithos and Martel Yggdrasil, one of which governed the link between the two worlds, and regulated it's Mana, and the other of which was the incarnation of the tree it's self, and the link that reunited the world.
Yup, and Martel is STILL the guardian which kind of makes me worry about what happens to to Radatosk being the guardian of the tree... o.0? going to go play 2 now....
he may have named it the world tree...... i don't know

Maybe he named it Symphonia? Because the game's called Tales of Symphonia?
IrritableGiraffe 2 years ago
@IrritableGiraffe Read 2 or 3 comments below, it was said a lot of times, and we knew the name of it since the first Tales in 1995.
The name is Yggdrasill. Wich is the "Tree of Life" in the Norse Mythology.

Because the split of the world wasn´t a consecuence of the death of the Karlhan tree.
Mithos used the Eternal Sword to split the world in 2, to end the war between Sylvarant and Thete'Alla.
