Yes. it is common in our country. I've been seing it, constantly, back home in Bacoor Cavite, Philippines in the 70's when I was little. We called it "Mariposa". As kids, we were told by old folks not to touch it because it has some kind of a powder on it's wings called "bolo, that will make us blind if the said powder hits our eyes.
