You may want to turn down the specularity on the material just a bit for a little more realism, but that depends on the style. As I said, it looks pretty cool as it is.
try to play with some anisothropic texture to add "more metallic" look. For now it looks closer to old computer games' shaders.. Like in games from 1995-2002 years.
used multiple objects, but rigged through one armature, with multiple unlinked bones. I parented the mesh to armature, using the parent to object option and not armature option.
Thanks... Did you happen to watch the complete effect and more. It is used in our short film "The Benevolent Superhuman". Do watch it and share your feedback.
Cheese on fire! that is os amazing! if only she had a helmet that would come in the same way as the shield so it would look like she is getting ready for a fast assault ;)
hi SESpider.. thanks for watching and commenting. regarding the shield, I broke the shield into small parts by P button. and then animated each part with an armature. I made a master bone using which I resized all of the parts so small that they are not visible, then resized them back to normal during the animation. This gives an effect as if the shield appears from nowhere.
I like the effect, but it might be a little better if the shield was a little bigger to give people a chance to see it change. By the way, you should post a tutorial...I've been looking for a way to do something like that in Blender.
Hi ScottVsMarvin, I have posted a short film on youtube which has some more effects done in blender, would like to know your thoughts on that...it is called "The Benevolent Superhuman - a short film"
I am working on a tutorial on the shield and other effects i have worked on for this short film.. will keep you posted..

Apart from matchmoving, was there any other tracking invloved? Like tracking the arm? Or did you just hand animate the thing?

Did you rig this as a single object with one armature or multiple objects with multiple armature rigs.

Cool, Thanks for the info. Didn't even relaize we could resize the bones during animation. lol I'm going to have to try it now. ^_^

You must use the "LocRotScale" mode to be able to move it and scale it at the same time :)

I made a lego pice evolve, in that time I use to put it inside the other and the resize out of the other:)
