I want a robot hottie in my household. I'm a creepy loser and I love banging pure metal with a pair of huge tits and a smile to die for. After we have "sex" she can take her place as the budding overlord of the Earth, becoming the dominant women before choking me to death. As I am a submissive man, I would become an expendable resource when she realises that she wants a greater challenge in her journey to destroy humanity.
the future will be here soon, no longer will the world be run by industries, but by open source projects looking to make the world more comfortable for everyone, advancing and innovating each step on their way to said future.
the biggest problem I think with domestic robots is speed, the technology exists for robots to be able to do advance tasks, but they just can't do it faster than humans
There has to be some way of giving the visual processor enough input without explicitly memorizing every point on a surface with a laser scanner. It's such an excess of information that no biological system ever needs.
@Digeridude Its a problem I solved over ten years ago, unfortunately the solution involved having a working strong AI system behind the vision processor. The problem with most current systems is that they lack the basic intelligence needed to make full vision work. I could say more but it is kind of commercially sensitive. :)
I cant wait until some big company like Sony, Microsoft or Apple will release a robot with some sort of AI, example, you dont like it quiet in the night and is a little light fear. When you goto bed, it comes to you and asks "Would you like me to stay up protecting you? Or do you want me to goto sleep?"... *Sigh* it would be perfect for kids :)
@DistrictSin i hope they don't make this too open for the public, like it's good for old or handicapped people that can't take care of themselves but to everyone else they don't need one
@KurzLuppii It will cost shitloads. Not many rich people. They would have to get a new generation of 10p a week slave children in a poor country to mass produce these on the cheap. Technology like this is always monopolized by the rich or the military.
Plus there few companies and most of the research is done by the government (Not very efficient folks).
The economies of scale never happens since most of these specialized equipment sees specialized action. Which means you don't need to make many of them.
Competition is the key for a lower price, you have a choice to either pay it on site or finish your payment monthly. I doubt that these things would cost so much in the future that only millionaires and whatnot could buy them.
This is awsome. That 3d laser stuff is way beter than having the robot try and see the world like we do whats the point of trying to desipher and photo when you can desipher a 3d model of the environment much easier
After ASIMO most other robots seem kinda lame. Honda set the bar really, really high. They cemented the fact that we are attracted to bi-pedal cuties that do awesome tricks.
Why, cause he got feet? These are household robots, there are only two kinds of terrains in a house, floors and stairs. In all actuality, you don't need feet to go down stairs, a simple inventive wheel system on this robot could make it able to go down stairs, and I'm sure that the developers will implement such a thing at a later stage. Feet's got the ability to walk over almost all surfaces, but it's not necessary to implement it on this robot, it would just slow development.
I'm glad they are tackling this. Household chores are such a burden to so many incapacitated people. This technology will surely lead to more personal freedom and happiness for humanity.
@CognosSquare actually, for the iphone, there is. There is an app that just makes your iphone vibrate. The rest you can fill in yourself :) But be careful, the iphone is not waterproof!

Cost shitloads at first.
... Stop making up situations about child labor, they don't have the expertise for building robots.
Just like HD TV's were really expensive.
Or computers were horribly expensive.
Both of which came down in price with competition.
Competition and greater efficiency will bring down the prices.
