the biggest problem I think with domestic robots is speed, the technology exists for robots to be able to do advance tasks, but they just can't do it faster than humans

There has to be some way of giving the visual processor enough input without explicitly memorizing every point on a surface with a laser scanner. It's such an excess of information that no biological system ever needs.

@Digeridude Its a problem I solved over ten years ago, unfortunately the solution involved having a working strong AI system behind the vision processor. The problem with most current systems is that they lack the basic intelligence needed to make full vision work. I could say more but it is kind of commercially sensitive. :)

Plus there few companies and most of the research is done by the government (Not very efficient folks).

The economies of scale never happens since most of these specialized equipment sees specialized action. Which means you don't need to make many of them.

Why, cause he got feet? These are household robots, there are only two kinds of terrains in a house, floors and stairs. In all actuality, you don't need feet to go down stairs, a simple inventive wheel system on this robot could make it able to go down stairs, and I'm sure that the developers will implement such a thing at a later stage. Feet's got the ability to walk over almost all surfaces, but it's not necessary to implement it on this robot, it would just slow development.
