Im sorry to hear that. i completely agree w/ u...anyone w/in the last 4yrs who has asked me whether Medicine (in general) was a wise career move, I've steered them far and clear. its all a pipe dream. Good luck to you and hope things improve.
paulD.....it's often out of the hands of the actual doc treating the respective pt, as there are quotas physicians are required to make w/in the ambulatory/walk-in clinic (that include the number of pts one sees / hr),
The bad part about all this propaganda, is that in a couple of decades there will be an OVERPOPULATION of primary care docs, and now the pay is going to be even more miserable and the quality of residency training is already poor just to get docotors out in the community fast. This translates into poorer physicians who offer poor care to patients, overall more dangerous to people, and bad outcome to both parties. just give family physicians more training and they will do.
@JUARITOSWAY There will NEVER be too many PCPs....the shortage will indeed continue to get worse....why? Because there's absolutely ZERO incentive to practice primary care at this point. And training in ANY area just to become a licensed practicing doc is too long and arduous for the amount of debt incurred and yrs of sacrifice. Infact, I question whether any (lucrative) specialty is worth the yrs of bs and kissin ass
@jsmed07 well I agree. I have been practicing primary care IM for 3m years and still don´t see the reimburssment that I would expect with all my loans and debt. In fact, I have a malpractice suit pending and my insurance rate is sky high. As a doctor, you are the victim of predator patients and the rest of your money disappears in taxes. If my son was going to study medicine, I would tell him it is definitely not worth it anymore. Actually NP and PA are better off economically, insulting.
This is why i am an intern for general practioner in Portugal: closer relation with people, with community means better care. And there is a WORLD of things you can do for everybody and learn.
American doctors talk a good game ....but it is all about MONEY folks.......DON'T let them jive you....
My sister was on Medicare and the "good doctors" did as LITTLE as possible for her because she was Poor and Black!!!! Yeah...that is true!!! It was 10 seconds of talking to her and then OUT the door to probably bill for an Hour consult.
So when you listen to these doctors talk about "Helping people" and "Making a difference".....it is all BULL@$#!!!!
whatever.
