  • Gi or no gi, shoes or no shoes, THIS is the UFC I loved.

  • Royce's lack of confidence is evidenced by his rematch with Sakuraba. He enters the ring with steroid conditioning. And without his gi.

  • GOLDEN AGE FOR SUPER FIGHTERS .... HOPE SOME NEW FACES SHOWS UP SOON

  • Ken was scared. He was afraid of getting reversed like he did in the first fight. So he took dominance in the rematch and just being very non-committal. It worked very well. Had the rules been different. He would have won that fight on points due to all the headbutts, small punches, and having the mount position. But the rules back then were win or nothing. There are no points. So it was a draw.

  • @Lordofthenipplerings if you watch from 2:12 to 2:15 you can see ken's right arm is caught in gracie's gi. he had trapped ken's arm in there and that is why he was able to transition so easy when ken rolled back for the ankle lock. He also used his gi in many other fights. Kinda cheap in my opinion. Knowing this Ken had to avoid the gi in their second fight and didnt take any risks.

  • @USPSAman Nah. Thats just proper technique. There are advantages and disadvantages in wearing a gi. Not wearing gi allows the grappler to move more freely as he is more difficult grab. However Royce felt comfortable with his Jujitsu. Thus his gi is an invitation to his opponent.

  • @Lordofthenipplerings Royce used the Gi as a weapon to give him an unfair advantage. Its funny In japan ken wore shoes all the time when fighing so he could get better footing however the gracie's wouldnt let him wear them in the UFC fights because they said it is like bringing a weapon in the ring but Royce can use his Gi to restrain and submit his opponet. That's BS

  • @USPSAman No, the gi has plenty of disadvantages. Many throws and takedowns require that the opponent to be gripped by his own gi and then thrown to the floor. Yoshida even uses Royce's own gi to choke him to submission. If the gi was so advantageous, Shamrock wouldnt have entered the fight wearing only speedos. Royce fights with the gi because he is confident in his Juijitsu. He is inviting his opponent to take advantage of him. Lets not forget, Shamrock also abuses steroids.

  • Damn the UFC sucks now! It was so much cooler when it was underground, Before the Bros fucked it up.

  • Man this is lammmme! lol Royce is still trying to say that all of his first UFC fights werent worked fights? Royce Gracie told me personally that all of his first UFC fights were worked fights so if you believe in anything a "Gracie" says it will only make you look stupid.

  • ok he doesnt suck my bad guys

he wanted revenge this that he was a discrace on the ultimate fighter show he wanted tito this that you tito and layed down and took a beating im big shamrock fan but dude guys you can he doesnt have past a 5th grade iq

  • shamrock wanted revnge this that dude you got beat far and square your own ego got in the way you thought who you were gonna walk through everyone and lost plain and simple you belly aching for months afterwards like he cheated he dumb dumb he did nothing wrong you suck it up dip shit

  • Where the fuck did they get their incompetent ass referees from?? look at how far away that clueless bastard is when Ken submits Smith, ken let's go himself! Fuck that gets me angry.

  • Art Davie is exactly right, Shamrock never truly recovered mentally from that first fight. Despite all that steroid use, 'ole bitch tits NEVER won a UFC tournament; Semaphore had to manufacture the "Superfight" just to give him a title.

  • @redwoodowl yeah dan severn is such a gimmie fight isn't he?

a lot of people were expecting severn to beat ken..

people wanted to see royce/ken that's why the super fight title was made.

  • @redwoodowl he also got his ass kicked by Tito

  • @vjoroa19 Yeah, Tito beat him like a rented mule, but he pretty much got his ass kicked by every top guy he faced. The Shamrock peter puffers love to mention naturally-trained Severn and his snooze-fest against 178 lb. Royce, but I think Ken's brother Frank summed it up nicely: "Why do you think [Ken] crumbles before the big fights? He’s got no psyche. He let steroids give him a false sense of security and the moment that stuff is gone he’s no longer superman. He’s just a regular man."

  • MMA was in its infancy. It was ridiculous to let Gracie use his gi when Shamrock was told he couldn't wear his Pancrase boots/leg guards if he wanted to kick. One style gets to use all of its gear while another style gets gear rules imposed on it. Gracie would have never beaten Shamrock without his gi.

  • @Murdock13 royce never used his gi in this fight ,he rear naked choked him because shamrock exposed his neck like rookie, anyone could have choked him.The gi is a serious disadvantage to wear in mma.The pancrase boots and shinguards are soft and would be less dangerous, not that ken can even throw a kick.Ken was never a good grappler ,mediocre to poor wrestler with poor ground skills and shite striking at that time but alwys sucked on the ground because he refused to learn.

  • @scarred10 Check again. He used his sleeve, which is actually mentioned in the video. Listen at around the 3:00 mark. "Royce got him in a collar choke using the sleeves." No way Royce could've gotten a choke in the position against Shamrock with his gi. Better pay closer attention next time. :)

  • @Murdock13 the commentary was a joke in that show ,they got peoples names, arts, techs totally wrong repeatedly. You can see right before 2:30 where he already has his arm around the neck,no collar was needed, the naked choke is easier. If royce had his chin up like that,id choke him myself and im just a purple belt.

  • @scarred10 I don't know what you don't understand when I say "sleeve" and when the person interviewed says "sleeves". You know a "sleeve" is not a collar, right? They are both part of the gi, and they are both used for chokes. You might feel the commentary was a joke, but I have heard Gracie and Shamrock both say it was a choke using sleeves. Last reply to you because I think that you are either a troll or can't see what is right before your eyes.

  • @Murdock13 why is ken the only one to blame for that fight|? royce did jack shit too.. royce only had ken in trouble for like 2 seconds with the ezekiel choke..

ken beat royce down.. around 60 head butts, 40 short punches and 2 right hands in the OT rounds.

  • @KShamrockNo1 Not sure what comment of mine you are replying to. I posted about UFC1.

  • @KShamrockNo1 Why is Ken the only one to blame? Umm, maybe because he was juiced up on anabolic steroids to the point he outweighed his opponent by 40 lbs., yet still produced nothing more than one of the worst snore-fests in MMA history?

I mean, come on man... he did all those steroids to just LAY AND PRAY for a half hour... against a MUCH SMALLER, naturally-trained man! Absolutely shameful!

  • @redwoodowl wrong.. ken was 205lb for ufc 5, gracie was 185lb.. ken wanted to be smaller for his cardio..

    get your facts right noob.

  • @KShamrockNo1 Hey cock-smooch, I prefer to keep the conversation cordial, but if you wanna turn it into a puerile shit-slinging contest, I'm game. If you think Anabolic Ken was that light you're even dumber than your poor writing skills would lead one to believe. The early UFCs very frequently lied about fighter weights; for example, check the look and pause from Michael Buffer when he announced Matua at 400 lbs.

Jayzus Keeryst you Ken Shamrock peter puffers are sensitive! LMAO!

  • @redwoodowl ken on record has said he was 205lb.. and you could tell, he was a lot smaller compared to ufc 6, where he was 225lb..

    not my fault your uneducated..

  • @KShamrockNo1 LMFAO! You call others uneducated and you don't even know the difference and proper usage of the word "your" and the contraction "you are?" I mean, I know that's just elementary stuff, but Jesus man, it really does make you look like a frothing, drooling, slobbering retard!

And as for Ken's word: he's also "on record" as saying he's never taken steroids, and that he's even anti-steroids! LMAO!

Seriously man, get Ken's testicles out of your mouth; it's embarrassing.

  • @redwoodowl get educated on the sport not fucking typing every word perfect on fucking youtube LMAO

  • Incidentally - John Matua fought in an early KOTC and, if my memory serves me right, was announced at 280 or 290 something. I admit I might be wrong about this; it's been about 8 or 10 years, but there's no way in hell that dude is 400 lbs.

  • A roided-up Ken Shamrock (which was all the time in the early days) was ALWAYS in the 220-230 range.

  • @KShamrockNo1 Oh, and by the way... that you would even mention the words "ken" and "cardio" in the same sentence proves you're as dumb as a bag of hammers, but that's okay, just keep buffing Anabolic Ken's rod; I'm sure one day he'll let you scrub his jock AND his pink nuthuggers! LOL!

  • @redwoodowl err when did ken ever gas in his prime?

  • @scarred10 "We love Ken because he puts asses in seats, but as a fighter he's very overrated... probably the most overrated guy in MMA." This is what someone at Zuffa told me, personally, a few years ago.

  • @redwoodowl If he was overatted, what does that make severn?I guess the zuffa person you are referring to missed all his ppl he destroyed in japan.....Bas Rutten being 1 of them.Royce is also lucky Ken played it safe the 2nd time.....Ken would have tko'd him most likely.....had he fought like he did in the early 90's in japan he would have been on top for quite some time and no wwf distraction B.S

  • @Smileypie11 Uhh... you do realize many (if not MOST) of those early Pancrase fights were hard works (ie, the fighters inflict real damage but the outcome is always predetermined), don't you? Even the OWNERS OF PANCRASE now admit this!

I mean seriously, is there anyone on this planet with an IQ higher than a grape who thinks Ken (28–15–2) is better than Bas (28–4–1), based primarily on a fight where Bas literally just laid there a LET Ken knee-bar him?

  • @redwoodowl I dont know about that i do know japan had its own hybrid fighting/wrestling league that was like the wwe, but to my knowledge ken was never in 1 unless maybe when he fought Vale but i dont know ,ive watched many of them and they looked pretty legit to me but who knows, i find it hard to believe Rutten would throw anything, ken also beat him 2x and i know they wanted Rutten to win so if that was a work rutten would have won...the same thing can be said about the PRIDE org.

  • Sakuraba wrapped it in a kimono and a mess

  • 2:00 Surprise!

  • "Ain't none 175 pounds Karate guy is gonna choke me" Ken, please meet Royce Gracie, JIU JITSU Master. Incredible! Shamrock didn't even know who or what he was fighting against. That's not a winning omen! Never.

  • @MikeSV1989 Wonder why He didn't know? They didn't talk, but Royce knew about every person in the tourney. No wrestling shoes, but allowed the gi? Yep. Stack the deck son. Stack the deck.

  • Pat Smith screamed as he tapped down. The guy resisted until the last second

  • Is there one of these on the second fight where Shamrock embarrasses Royce?

  • @puffykilled2pac yes. but zuffa do a good job of making it out like shamrock did nothing to gracie.. i'll post it though

  • @KShamrockNo1

I don't know what UFC has against Shamrock. His fights with Tito are what allowed them not to go out of business. Just because he did that IFL thing years ago isn't reason enough to bury him all the time.

  • @KShamrockNo1 I don't know where you're getting this; Zuffa has no interest and does nothing to protect Royce's image, in fact, they pretty much knew what was going to happen when he fought Matt Hughes yet they let that one go.

The only reason Gracie-Shamrock II is pretty much a forgotten fight is because Ken made it EXCRUCIATINGLY BORING.

  • @puffykilled2pac Your not talking about the 35 minute fight where shamrock outweighed royce by over 40 pounds and just layed on him the whole time till it was reset for overtime an shamrock managed to land one good punch and it ended in a DRAW are you? Going for one of your best moves and LOSING in less then a minute to "175lb karate guy" seems more embarrassing.

  • @TheMetalsmurf That'd be the fight where ken fought in Royce's guard. The spot where everyone up until that point had gotten subbed. Way to look at the past with eyes of hindsight.

  • @NaglfarCommando Yes my eyes of the past remember that ken had the mount for 30 minutes and just layed there throwing more headbutts then punches yes awesome display of fighting in the guard. If hindsight serves me again it ended up in a draw good fight indeed. Would be interesting if they could do fight metric on that it might be the longest time someones been in mount and landed more headbutts then punches.
