Nice playing, man! .. but the significant thing about this song is the strumming technique. As you can see in the live clip on the left, he uses his thumb to hit the bass strings and the other fingers to hit the higher strings, occasionally muting all the strings while strumming. This way you get "heavy bass playing" + rhythm guitar + lead guitar all in one. Kinda tricky, never to achieve with a plectrum.
