the elevator I filmed today in the Butler Junior high (middle school) was locked from the outside and locked to operate it. I dont have a key for it, it was some custom ace key, but my former teacher let me film the elevator and ride it without even asking, this is also a dover classic
Just like schools, a lot of apartment buildings (esp. retirement homes) restrict elevators for ADA (Disabled) persons only & passengers with them. This cuts down on electricity & elevator maintenance costs, and keeps the elevator free for ADA people to use more freely as they need them more than those of us that don't & can use the stairs.
@suzzex Schools mostly don't want students playing on the elevator. There are too many students all moving about the hallways at the same time to have public elevators for anyone to use. Students would cram in them unsafely & could get stuck like that. Most elevators can only hold about 4 or 5 people comfortably; some only 2 or 3 tops. (Depending on the size of it.)
@aa9g1 That or they don't want Diesel Ducy on it...LOL!!! There's a new key that ThyssenKrupp (ex-Dover) & Schindler came out with called the DD key. It is a special key that locks out the elevator from Diesel Ducy access...
@suzzex Just don't let anyone there (even your friends) know you've got them. 90% or more of the US population don't know that elevators take universal manufacturer keys. If the elevator ever gets vandalized or breaks down, you're the first one school officials will come looking for.
I got caught stuffing a cabinet unit ventilator with folded paper. It clogged it but did no damage. Every time one would break down, they would come looking for me. This was a long time ago, but same for today.
@aa9g1 I try and keep it confidential, and even when I do use them I always am very cautious and make sure I return it to the way it was and leave good vibes.
@aa9g1 well technically most elevators can hold 16 people before over weight, and we are not like most people, its not that we are too lazy to walk, but elevators are more fun to us, thats all,
I took a picture of the building so you could see the layout of the building, and then edited it with Window Movie Maker. Also, read the description and you will see why the beginning of the video is weird.
@suzzex dont listen to jon you know how he judges elevators by the brand and not how they run, any Dover no matter how good it runs he wont like it, any kone no matter how shitty it is, he will say its very nice,
but anyway this reminds me of the school elevator, because its locked and I snuck in without permission, if this were center open you could use the paper

Looks to me more like a late 70's or early 80's model with the fake wood walls.

@aa9g1 That sounds accurate, especially after listening to the motor.

@aa9g1 That's actually a really good thought. I have never thought of it that way.

@aa9g1 That I do know. My school has locks on all 3 elevators, even another lock on the freighter. (But I have the keys! :D)

@aa9g1 Except hospital elevators. My local hospital has an Otis that holds at least 12.

It's a very nice 80's Dover classic. What's so interesting?

you certainly have a good video-cam.
interior and external clips are linked and automatic focus and a good light.

That motor is loud and it seems quite creaky.
JonElevator 2 years ago
Well, that's your opinion. I had an excellent experience with this elevator, and I thought it was in an excellent condition.
FYI: The motor was loud because the machine room is right next door.
