J'aime Paul Simon. En fait je l'adore. J'aime aussi Linda. et j'ai été un peu étonné J'admire Myriam Makeba mais n'empêche j'aime la version originale.
I agree. Too bad she ruined a great career by mixing politics into her concerts. I was in Vegas once when she was booed off the stage. People were yelling "shut up and sing, dammit!"
I can't stand Linda ever since she blasted Robin Quivers on the Tonight Show. But.... she does make this song what it is.... I love it! Great job Paul and Linda and Miriam Makeba too.
This was one of the first albums I ever had. I used to sit in my backyard by myself just listening to it over and over. 20 years later I still know all the words. I only hope to see him play live before he retires.
This is one of the tapes my dad played in the car on our 12 hour drives to Texas. I love this album, it sure brings back memories. I was the only kid my age that wasn't listening to P Diddy and Biggie. I appreciated Paul Simon and many other classics.
@Berthagertrude the harmony parts of her duet with Aaron Neville recorded a few years later ("I don't know much") are also at the same level. Sadly, Youtube doesn't do that tune justice as the live version I've managed to find they both sing flat.
Can't help but respond to the ugly comments about money having any relation to this sound. Music is healing, uniting,a gift that can reach the soul. Why degrade what unites us all? It's a beautiful song, listen, enjoy, please leave it at that.
This song makes me imagine all the vast expanses of Africa and the wonderful wildlife , Lions, elephants and hyenas. Then I imagine tribal dancers. Fantastic song.
Instresting , I have always experienced the same as you discribed. Just exactly the same. I would listen to this song on mp3, when I was laying in bed and close my eyes.. and just exactly seeing that! Although I was in this high tree , high above the lions lol!
I was born in africa,am an african, and do not have to imagine africa!! hope you are having a wonderful World Cup 2010 in South Africa this year!! feeel it it is here! wish paul simon had played this song at the opening ceremony as well, ne! i'm having a vuvuzela time!
@MrMpariwa I am FOR the vuvuzelas! Even though I´m swedish! Wish I had one! Would have wakened the neighbourhood now...(yes, I know the game is over...).
I am speechless... This song is truly amazing!!! ... I haven't heard it in quite a while and now I found it here on youtube!! It gives me goose-bumps.... The lyrics are so magical!! This song inspires me to compose new songs!! Take care! Sunwarm hugs from Nenne in Stockholm
Too bad Paul and Linda didnt do more duets. This is very lovely.

Crap, I accidently pressed 'mark as spam' on the previous post, sorry for that.
I never heard of this protest you're talking about. But I think it's ridiculous if one listens to his songs. Lyrics ofcourse...
yorick1 3 years ago
There was a protest by some that Graceland was Paul Simon's profiting from the sufferings of S Africa under apartheid.
This is why I disagree: The Graceland album brought this horrible time to the attention of many who would not have been as concerned.
Graceland - above all in the circles I ran in those days - kept it all in the back of our minds. If anything, Simon's ablum furthered the cause.
Brilliant song, btw.
