I do wish Dawkins had explained natural selection's mechanism more clearly: the non-random survival of random mutations. Many people who don't understand evolution think it is just about random mutations, and don't understand that the survival value of some mutations, which in turn get passed onto subsequent generations, is the key to the crane metaphor.
I'd also have liked a few words on sexual selection--for example, a peacock's tail is the result of what generations of peahens find sexy.

I get that you're (probably) joking, but ridiculing the concept of sexual selection is out of the creationist playbook. Some traits--like the elaborate plumage of many birds--can make survival more difficult for an individual animal. The explanation for those fancy feathers is that the downside risk of increased vulnerability to predators is outweighed by the advantage of leaving more offspring. Another win for Darwin.

I was walking on the beach & found a god. The god was too complex to have come about without a designer. That is undeniable irrefutable proof positive of the existence of IPU.

When one dies, you are not excluded from Heaven by God, but you exclude yourself by going to be with those whom have the same desires as you. If you argue against God now, so will in death.
We have to live on this planet, and we have no evidence of an afterlife. It makes more sense to make our lives the best they can so future generations wont pay for our mistakes. If we illustrated the odds , by counting every last star in the Universe, and all their planets and take the chance, still yet, not enough numbers to describe the mere chances of what we have here on Earth. Death. Something humans have had their own thoughts and believes for ages, even the times long ago when they were quite limited by both brain capacity and imagination. Even if this death sounds quite unoriginal in many ways, it still is the fate of all living humans, even for the ones as original and imagination filled people as Douglas Adams, even tho this all is relative, and forcing the reader to be any more fhilosophical like most are when this is mentioned, is inhumane.

Dawkins' arguments are thoughtful and well reasoned. Science doesn't have all the answers...yet...to the pithy questions that bedevil mankind, but the trail of evidence clearly leads away from the notion of an all-powerful supernatural being and points to natural, physical laws that provide cogent explanations for difficult questions with which mankind has been grappling for millennia. Religion raises more questions than it answers, while It is abundantly apparent science is on the right track.

I do wish Dawkins had explained natural selection's mechanism more clearly: the non-random survival of random mutations. Many people who don't understand evolution think it is just about random mutations, and don't understand that the survival value of some mutations, which in turn get passed onto subsequent generations, is the key to the crane metaphor.
I'd also have liked a few words on sexual selection--for example, a peacock's tail is the result of what generations of peahens find sexy.

Some traits--like the elaborate plumage of many birds--can make survival more difficult for an individual animal. The explanation for those fancy feathers is that the downside risk of increased vulnerability to predators is outweighed by the advantage of leaving more offspring. Another win for Darwin.
