"he's happier" is a dangerous thing to believe, because there is a lot of peer pressure and self pressure to hide problems and pretend happiness. Religious people develop an incredible capacity for denial that is self-destructive and when their kids commit suicide, or when they rape their niece, or when they develop an alcohol problem. The problems isn't there or its a trick from the devil trying to fool us, or if they are caught red handed then devils made them do it.
The worst thing anyone can do is get caught up in man made religous dogma. The bible and GOD have absolutely nothing to do with the satanic religions of this world.People who think inside the religous box always become stagnant with religous theology and doctrine and never really get anywhere because instead of searching for truth WITHIN they listen to what other people say or preach to them who dont really understand what there talking about themselves.
It's obvious your family makes mistakes in explaining things to you.Knoledge in a sense is worthless..If i where a computer tech and you where a mechanic..who would be evil? i guess they would say the computer tech since they most likely know more..Our knoledge all though good for earning a living..beyond that is worthless..Wisdom is a gift of god..To discern the truth and learn from mistakes..You sin you pay..you reap you sow..very simple. Our knoledge comes from above..God doesnt hate the smart
Why is it that religious nutcases rely more on faith than fact? Is it because they are afraid of the very concept that nothing happens after death? Or do they truly believe in this all powerful being? Because if they truly believe in a loving and caring God, who's all knowing and all powerful, then why is it that they shed tears at one's funeral? If they were truly confident of this God, then wouldn't they be glad that someone is gone, or at least not care?
Grief is a natural thing..it is an emotion caused by sadness..even jesus himself grieved over losing a loved one..God judges the heart of man..To assume every loved one goes to heaven is proposterous..God is the judge not us..When my mother died..i angered against god..but honestly..as bad as it sounds..it changed my life for the better in the long run..I now have a wonderful wife and 2 children..Had my mother not died..who knows where i would be..it was a blessing in disguise
whole area .. its just something that effects you one way or another, anyway WineisyourFriend, i have to admit i slightly agree with you and respect your emotions towards this, i feel the same way, maybe i shouldnt occording to most chritians, oh well, as for christians thinking the devil is in everything, thats absurd, i think so anyway, however, WineisyourFriend, there are other chritians, 'real' chritians, not the cliche southern bible loven american stereotype chritians, that are out there..
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. But I must say that I reject your statement about "real christians". Those cliche southern bible etc etc christians will tell me that the others aren't "real christians". What's the standard of measure? It's nothing but conjecture and opinion. Are "real" xtians the ones who are more moderate? Are the real ones the ones who follow the bible to the letter? Are they the ones who know which bible verses to ignore and which to reinterpret for modern times???
well wineisyourfriend, as ive said, im not actually a christian, im still on the fence about faith, so i guess im agnostic, however i get wat ur saying here about wat a "real chritian is" and i agree with you aswell.. however wat i meant by the stereotypical southern cliched chritian compared to a real chritian, was in reference to how they always "blame the devil" for the little things, and ignore science, human brain etc., whereas, some real chritians or 'other' (which i think is a better word
chritians actually use science and accept knowledge to actually support there faith, and there are some extremely different chritian vs chritian views all together, no matter how they judge one another. i would also say that the stereotypical cliche 'southern' chritians, would be defined as the more 'modern' cultured chritians today, as opposed to a real or other chritian group.
Why do ppl always get angry with anything involved with christianity? besides the obvious reasons ...... it seems anything related to jesus most ppl counter react .. no matter wat (in comical senses mostly...... probly cuz they think its funny, or 'know' its funny)
i mean, i can understand the obvious reasons, but its just hard, for me, to clearly decide what is right, truth, real? im on the fence here about christianity anyway, its rather athiest or christian, i find this very hard ... this
Not everybody gets angry with anything regarding christianity. People who have been burned by religion usually will. People who have a very low tolerance for what they perceive as bullshit will. People of other religions might. But in this country most people call themselves christian, and most of the others are quite used to being surrounded by christians. It is a vocal minority that speaks out against what we see as dangerous religious craziness. It's also reaction against xtian bigots.
yeah, it just seems it happens the most with chritianity, even more than monsters and ghosts etc. ive seen sum pretty terrible chritian crap that ive even caught myself in making fun of, either way, its popular in this topic. BTW i respect your respones and your views, you have a lot of intelligent thoughts that i agree with completely, i wish more ppl could wake up like us...
Christians,a group of which I am a member. Are charged with going out and witnessing. That is, we are supposed to tell people about Jesus. That this life is temporary, and that there are horrible and everlasting punishments, for those that will not repent. We are not judging. We just bring the message. We were once non believers, just as you are. Every Christian is a convert.
lifeseeker...my issue here is about the idea of 'don't think, just believe". Every muslim is a convert also. Every zoroastrian is a convert...etc etc. Muslims threaten you with everlasting punishments also. How is that different? What if a muslim said to you "dont' think about this too much because you'll just confuse yourself. Just believe me and have faith that muhammad was right and islam is the truth." What would you have to say about that? And "we are not judging"? Come on, man.
WineisyourFriend. I hear you. Frankly,I can say that I would have never thought I could be converted. So, what happened? It's hard to explain. No one was witnessing to me. I just saw things happen that showed there was more than met the eye. Something that was in control but wasn't obvious. I'd spotted God. Figureing out which god was God was easy. Current events are clearly in line with the prophesies given by the Hebrew Prophets. That's God.
Im a litle confused Wineisyourfriend....is your wife more theistic than you are? i seem to remember you mentioning that she has a strong(er) faith. just wondering:)
Yeah, she is. She's something inbetween a pantheist and a deist. She's in her confusion stage. She says she believes in god, but doesn't believe the bible is right. She figures that all religions are probably referring to the same god but with different names. As soon as she realizes that doesn't work, she'll go full deist, then eventually agnostic-atheist....probably.
Its always interesting how some Christians are perfectly capable of using logic and reason to discredit other religions, yet when it comes to their own faith they deem these same processes to be inappropriate or even dangerous.
yeah. people at my old job would blame everything on the devil. if my internet went down, its the devil. if i have a cold, its satan. when i disagree with them, its satan.
Sounds familiar. In the church where I was raised we were taught to continually do research to "prove the bible right". But when that research inevitably led to questions the bible or the church elders couldn't answer, instead of looking objectively they would try to question the person about whether or not they had been speaking with "apostates". I heard actually heard church elders say "You're studying this too hard.".
My only experience with Jehovah's witnesses (so far) involved the guy at my door asking me to explain why there are seashells found at the tops of mountains. I simply said "plate tectonics", which drew a hearty laugh from the woman who accompanied the guy. He was going into a flood myth argument, and I had coincidentally just watched a history channel program about it. Funny. But I had learned all about tectonics years before in a college geology course. She thought THAT was laughable. :O)
Oh, I remember some laughable things too. I remember being chased out of a yard by a lady with a garden hose when I was six, because I was trying to tell her that her version of Jesus wasn't real. Ever seen an old lady trying to hose you down while telling you you're from the devil? If there's ever a sequel to Religulous, I'd love to see a montage of those kind of clips.
my easter sunday was so fucked up i can't even tell you. i had my grandma in tears. i was having a very fun conversation with my cousins(35 of them) about marrige. i said when asked what church i would get married in , i said i wouldn't. my aunts and grandma where agast the way i talked about how people claim to be christians when they want to get married in a beautiful building. then they never come back. it was getting personal, and i shouldn't of opened my mouth.
i personally can't take that kind of person. they just want to preach because they believe and think everyone else should believe as they do.
it's probably the biggest thing i have against religion, they can't leave others alone and believe thier own bullshit, they have to try and force thier ways and beliefs on others i find it sickening...
I've never been a believer in any religion, but was recently surprised by a family member. He doesn't go to church or have any strong faith, but believes in the christian god. He told me too that i was trying to think & reason the whole thing. And,that even if i dont agree,my morals were given to me by god!
I've heard all the same things all my life. Thinking allowed me to remove the conflict between heart and mind that had been caused by man-made religion.
I love to hear about the interactions with your family and friends. It gives us all a personal look into how difficult it really is to leave this crap behind and still have to deal with the fundies you left behind. I wonder what part of the brain the devil resides? Amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus, lateral geniculates, cerebellum?? Must be crowded in there and I would think headaches would be frequent.
All roads lead to Rome. We choose our paths.REF Freewill! Along the way people want to tell you to turn this way or that. This road of faith or that road of faith. Choose or die they say!! I always ask. SO who died and made you the traffic cop!?!
Yeah, that's what the Christians always tried to tell me when I was struggling with the "sex in heaven" issue. They were obviously pissed at me and wanted to shut me up.
You have amazing patience to not go off on him when he started with this nonsense. I wouldn't be able to just sit back and keep quiet. Kudos man.

The sad thing about people of that mindset is that they are often completely logical about other ideas and facets of their lives.
Then again he might turn into one of those people who brings religion into every last decision they make.
