Pavement did copy the fall with songs like conduit for sale and forklife (they are throw away songs although quite fun to sing a long to) They shed their fall influence by their second album and in my opinion CRCR is better then the fall-influenced S&E. But yeah, if The Fall doesn't see a cut of Conduit for Sale they are getting screwed.

The vocals (among other things) sound slightly different between the "Westing (By Musket and Sextant)" version of the song and the "Slanted and Enchanted" one; and the vocals in this video sound more like they do in the "Westing..." version.

Yeah, the differences between the two versions are fairly subtle, most noticeably in the vocal mix. I think the version in the above video is the original mix from a 1991 single (later re-released on the "Westing..." comp); while the one on the S&E full-length from 1992 is known officially as "Summer Babe (Winter Version)".

I just started listening to pavement, and personally, I think they are amazing; however, I do not agree with them being revolutionary as much of the ideas were clearly taken from the Velvet Underground and Yo La Tengo. Yet still, Pavement was really the one that refined the concepts taken and made it into something unique. This has got to be one of the best albums ever
