  • I thought you can't Join the air force after 26

  • someone tell me some good reasons why i should join air force over navy. Keep in mind i am 27 years old. Am i too old for AF or Navy???

  • @CureRadio to enlist the air force you must be 18-27 years old and the navy is you must be no older then 37 years old. Everyone have different opinions about why they choose one branch over another. I would of choose Air Force because I love flying and I hope one day I can be a loadmaster and fly in a C-130 and drop down supplies. If you want more information you can go to their website: airforce.com and navy.com

  • @CureRadio I'm a 30yr old considering joining the AF Reserve. The age to join the AF is 17-34.

  • @quitetstorm no its 26

  • I can't believe I'm going to be graduating from Air Force BMT soon. I'm gonna be there and get to post a video just like this. Life's just gonna be awesome. :D

  • Can anybody please tell me why are they wearing coats?

  • Thank you to all the MTIs that put in hard work to train the World's Greatest Air Force

  • I love how they march in sync! It looks so sharp

  • It's so hard to believe.... That was me 31 years ago! I remember it like it was yesterday. And so will you. Trust me when I tell you that what you learned in BMT

will show itself as part of your personality for the rest of your life. I spent 10 years with chevrons on my shoulders. And they'll ALWAYS be there!

  • @Nettaiya87 He should have told you what his graduation day was, other then that you really shouldn't need to know anything else till you get to see him? Maybe I am missing something.

  • @Nettaiya87 when is ur hubby graduating? u should receive a letter with all the instructions from his graduation on the fifth week. my hubby is graduating on feb 4. cant wait!!

  • man i miss basic...ready to go back after i return from japan to be a military training instructor!

  • I just got enlisted today.

  • can anyone tell me what starting pay is for an airforce pilot??? i would really appreciate an answer from someone PLEASE?

  • @jsk8drummer see what an O-1 pay is on the miltary pay chart and there you go starting pay for a air force pilot.

  • @jsk8drummer All military pay is based on rank. There is enlisted rank(E-whatever) and then there's Officer rank(O-whatever). Most pilots are officers that hold a degree in science or engineering and most get this at the academy. Just getting into the academy is an award in itself. However, not all pilots come out of the academy. Some have worked up through the enlisted ranks to become a non commissioned officer(E-5 and above). In this case, the pay will vary.

    O-1 = 2745.60

    E-5 = 2061.30

  • @holypaper how long do youn think it would take to move up through the enlisted ranks and become a non commissioned officer? and how many of those officers actually become pilots? and do the people who choose the people for pilots slots favor people who become an officer through the academy or rotc over non comissioned ones? sorry for all the questions but i wana fly really bad and its hard to find good info

  • @jsk8drummer Not to be a recruiter, but if the AF says you can't fly. Become an Army aviator. They have an out of high school become a warrant officer army aviator program. As for the NCO status in the AF it takes longer then the Army. To be an E-4 Senior Airman it takes a min 3 years. In the Army, 2 years. Academy Officers are treated better because they are networked. General say," ok who do want to lead my wing? Wait jsk8drummer was a freshmen at the academy when I was there.I want him."

  • @mcmurdy1980 does the army have fighter pilots though? thats what i wana do

  • @jsk8drummer no it's rotor wing

  • @jsk8drummer Make sure you talk to an officer recruiter. If ROTC is your only route, good. If you want my advise, get your degree first. You can get distracted as an enlisted guy trying to go to school. The mission comes first. As for flying, you need to test for it. In the Army, look up 153a Rotary wing aviator. The AF has their own standards. look that up as well. Also, look up the Navy, you might like their program. My Uncle flew for the Navy for 20 years. He flies SW airlines now.

  • @jsk8drummer

Mcmurdy is pretty much on the money with all of this. However, there's different paths to the air force. I'm going in as an E-3 because I already have 2 years worth of college behind me. That automatically makes me an E-3 going. So, it should probably take me no more than a year and half to reach E-4. Anything above that(E-5 and beyond) is officer status. In order to jump from E-4 to E-5, you have to earn it through your leadership, tests, ect. Continuing.....

  • @holypaper So, considering going to college before is good option for some. Now, as for the enlisted officer pilot question, it's situational and from what I understand it rarely happens. Even for academy cadets, it's a very competitive field. I strongly recommend talking to not just one recruiter, but many if you want to fly. You should also hit up air force forums for more information. Keep in mind, there are many rewarding flight specialties...and Navy & Army have pilots as well.

  • @holypaper thanks for the tips and i wana be a fighter pilot so the army is not for me and the marines dont appeal much to me so im really going for air force or navy

  • @holypaper Their is NO enlisted pilot program. You have to be a commissioned officer in all branches. The Air Force does not have a warrant officer program( they should). They are commissioned. In some branches, they can fly. You can be an enlisted guy who becomes commissioned. You pay is rated as OE-1 through OE-3( i think)

  • @mcmurdy1980 In history, the Air Force did have warrant officers, but they realized that the ordinary enlisted airman can possess the know-how to do very high-tech jobs. Thus, they got rid of the warrant officer grades in the 60s. Tech and Master Sergeants would be the ideal.

I do agree that Air Force aviation should have warrants, like Army aviation does.

  • @holypaper so if i enlist with no college experience straight out of high school i would go in as an E-1? and how long would it take to get from E-1 to E-3?

  • @jsk8drummer With in 2 to 3 years you will be an e-3 going to e-4. I had to take the long route. I came in as an e-1. My suggestion is look in to the academy. You will have a full paid trip to a school, a commission when you are done, and an 8 year commitment. It's not a bad deal. You will not have to worry about living expenses. You live on campus. You will network like crazy, and you will come out as a highly disciplined officer.

  • @jsk8drummer I will be honest, in the AF about 25% of people who are enlisted drop out of the paperwork process alone. If your commander doesn't like you, you are done. You need his recommendation. If you went the academy route( I know it's harder), you can get all that out of the way. To be honest, I would have gone that route if I have known about it. I ask you this: How bad do you want it? Do not take the easy route on this. Go for the big win.

  • @jsk8drummer Minimum requirements to go to the academy. A citizen of the United States. You must submit proof of citizenship if you were foreign born or naturalized. Authorized international students are exempt from this requirement.

At least 17, but less than 23 years of age by July 1 of the year you would enter. The age requirement is public law and cannot be waived.

    Unmarried with no dependents.

    Of good moral character.

Meet high leadership, academic, physical and medical standards.

  • @holypaper You are correct, but their should be an understanding about officer status. E-4 Corporal (army and marines) through E-9 are Non Commissioned Officers. W-1 through O-10 is a commissioned officer. The difference: NCO is appointed by a commander. His job is to support and enforce the commander. Commissioned Officers are commissioned by the President of the US. Except w-1 which is commissioned by the secretary of (branch) Commissioned officers and Medal of honor recipients; you salute.
