Kanji are the characters used in Japanese writing (from China; also used in other Asian languages). If you don't know kanji, there is no way you can read Japanese. For example, 'Japanese' is written 日本語。 Those three kanji are pronounce Ni hon go, and mean 'the Japanese language.' That's a brief explanation of kanji.
I would agree that fun should be put in quotes. I'm not sure that it is really the word for it, but at the very least it is interesting and helps with self-discovery and knowledge.

Btw, I've been meaning to ask this, are you training to become a monk? Because you've been to a lot of monasteries and have stayed there.
To answer your questions:
1. Yes, please!
2. Yes, please! Although I watch sumo here on Eurosport.

I was training to be a monk, but a year ago decided it wasn't the life for me. I love it, but am trying out a different life now.
broans 4 years ago
Wow, that's so cool!
Must be 'fun' to try out different life styles.

yeah, exactly. I meant to change 'fun' into interesting, but youtube doesn't provide an edit feature (unfortunately).
