Kiva had a couple of, maybe, 10 minute sessions with treats on the stuff from Setting Up With Bouncer.
He's a real fruitcake, super high energy, so it was a very important to get that stable behavior with treats before we added the distraction of the disc.
OK, I'm working on Scoot with my two BC's and the little female will do well, and probably better with the disc (she is what you call Active Operant, I believe), my male is a little slower, and while he is a rocket disc dog, he gets into that "zone" where everything else turns off, or at least goes really slowly. Any ideas for how to break that so we can start working on tricks with discs?
I'll work on getting a video ASAP. He just tends to either get into a crouch and stare down the disc, or is wild and grabs for the disc. I will try to break it down more for him (which is kind of the theme in his training, you think your 'bits' are small enough, but not for this dog!)
Great video, makes me feel bad that I've been putting off disc training because of the snow :)
How much ground work did this dog have with "scoot" with treats?

Clearer criteria.
Break it down into smaller bites and stick to the criteria.
Don't be stingy with reinforcement.
If you post a video I could help more.

The Problem is not bits, it's components.
Do you have him trained to bite the disc on request? Or does he bite the disc whenever he can?
Without the ability to hold off on the bite until asked, you'll have a hard time getting him to be patient with that disc in his face.

Ah! I know this, I call it Disc Zen. This is something I always train with treats, but just didn't think to apply it to discs.
Thanks so much!
