Prince is funny. I love him but he's quite possibly the only person i've ever seen wear, heels, lace and eyeliner and have everyone for a while call "insert derogatory word for gay here" but in reality has gotten an utterly ungodly amout of beautiful hetero tail and is generally just on a higher level of "cool." You gotta be special to pull off heels and maintain your utter cool. That's rock star.
i wanna build a replica of this guitar, but.....what pickup must be in? some people say "fender vintage noiseless" but what? the strat set? or the telecaster set? i think must be the bridge strat pu, whats yours opinion?
i like it the headstock is kinda ugly u-no with a tele u got to have that tele headstock but im getting one anyway cause it's funky like that and i got to have it. i'll let u know how it plays look for it soon, till then rock hard in a funky place ....peace.
This has been Prince's main guitar since the 'Dirty Mind' days. He got it just because of the way it looked. I think it matched his strap or somethin' like that. Legend has it that the engineers had trouble miking it because of the the noise the pickups made, but once they cleared it up the classic Prince "raggedy" sound was born and history was made. He's never played a Fender Tele. Not consistently anyway.
@bdprez - I've read that the maple body was the problem the engineers had. Produced and excessively "bright" sound. A maple body is rare, but this new Hohner has one. Fender Teles don't have maple bodies.
@HypeRhymz Sorry to tell you but Prince has always played a Hohner tele. A Fender copy. Lately he's toured with a few Fender Strats but the Hohner has been his main ax for decades.
It doesn't matter what guitar Prince plays.. he shreds on anything. Funny story tho on Hohner's cuz Prince originally picked the guitar only cuz it had a leopard pick guard. Who knew it would become such a famous model!! =)
