i have taken it twice. it truly is hell on earth!! its been many years now since i took the first treatment and my health has been horrible since then. i wouldn't recommend that anyone touch the stuff unless you are absolutely desperate and even then?? when this man says that he felt like he had a blowtorche held to his knee, he means it. unlike him, i have had eight episodes of blowtorche leg, one a year, each lasting for around four months.they started while taking interferon watch out.
I was on interferon and ribavirin for 72 weeks and did not have any side effects. I was convinced it wasn't working or I was doing something in correctly for the first few weeks. I have been virus-negative for over two years. Reactions to treatment are different person to person.
Part 1-These are the symptoms (I remember): Fever, chills, sweating, scratching, nausea, eating issues, weight loss... Paranoia- couldn't walk on the street with people, thought people at work were out to get me. Moments of rage. Major depression to the point of hearing voices and every emotion is x100 but rarely happiness.
I must say it has been so hard on me increasing my psychological problems and causing me to be so sick and my vision to really be blurry and so many other things.
no offense but the bottom line is just cause somthing doesnt work for you doesnt mean it doesnt work at all.im taking interferon with ribavirin and had no side effects at all and started feeling way better than usual almost immediately.so i dont know what to say.im way better now and almost done with treatment.so just cause u had a bad expierience which u were warned might happen dont say it dont work.

@DavinaFaerie that is simply not true my freind.i am on interferon and ribavirin and never had any side effects period.i really think it depends on the person.i started treatment and almost immediatly started feeling better,and had no side effects.many people get flu like symptoms rash,heart problems but u have to counteract that.i eat healthy,exercise 5 days a week etc.that is how u beat this with meds and health.just cause it dont work for loyyd doesnt mean it dont work.try it,it saved me.
I've just finished (prematurely) a 24 month treatment..as I was both hep c //hiv+....pure hell!!..but I am cured ..apparently.I feel I still have problems with the side effects, my t-cells dropped so low I had to stop the treatment myself..the Drs wanted me to continue another 24 weeks 'just in case the virus is hiding somewhere in your system''..BS !!..I have always suspected Profit was the driving force behind it as I have been Hiv + for 25 yrs and hepc 20yrs...feeling very weird now ..bye

Got my first shot of pegasys the other day. been taking ribavirin too. Not sick at all... supposedly this is the time where i get most sick. Thought everyone got sick from it.. Glad to be one of those who doesn't.

Well, i have had a different experience. I used it back 20 years ago, did not work, it is hard. Now 20 years later, tried again with the Ribavirin. It is hard going through the treatment again. Got a non-detectable response this time.
I had a very rough time on the pegasys I did one full year of it and now the hep c is back, and now they say there is a new medicine to go with the Pegasys,,, but I don't think I can do another year of it.... its been 6 months since I finished and I am barely feeling better, I have no friends little family and they can not take another round of treatment... I feel so very alone....
@trotwoodtrouble Hello, please consider that HCV rapidly mutates to protect itself from death by interferon. This natural action by the virus can protect it against another assult from interferon making a second round less effective.
You are not alone, this happens to many people who use interferon. You will do better with time. I had at least 6 emails today form people who said almost the same thing. It is amazing how many people use interferon without Sustained viral response.
@trotwoodtrouble i am so sorry you feel alone, my dad took interfuron about 10 years ago i was 15. he lost 45 pounds, he never slept he was like a zombie. i dont know much about his disease viral load ect, all i know is that 6 months every day he injected those vials that needed refrigeration. he shut off his wife and my sisters. i know he still has hep c. please note i am not saying not to take it. i thought if i share my story, you wont feel so alone. hope this helps a tad.
my doctor, put me on pegasys and copagus,and after my fourth injection my white blood cell count droped so low they told me to stop treatment, this has happened three times on and off treatment, the doctor also had me take the drug nuepogen,and wants a bone marrow biopsy. I feel like a guinny pig, what should i do?

@TrailerNo9 the reason i his video got me upset is because its 100% negative, my doctor really helped me with my situation, he set me up with a couciler and a nutricionist, we went through all the possible side affects that could be coming, i knew what i was getting myself into, and by the way it was horrible and i wouldn't wish it on anyone else, but it was worth it. i get that it can be harmful but it can also be very helpful
@bf41380 Thanks for clarifying and yes his point of view is one sided. I too knew what I was getting into, the side effects are horrendous! The drugs have helped two of my friends and my blood test reveal that there is no trace of the virus. Hopefully I get off the drug soon and begin my journey back into life.

@overlillthomas Doctors are not allowed by law to prescribe anything for hepatitis c except FDA aproved drugs. Most of them have little or no knowledge about healthy ways to deal with disease. Find a local Naturalpath and get some healthy advise. Read Triumph Over Hepatitis C and learn about how you can deal with hepatitis C without putting yourself at risk of life long diabling side effects that are worse than the disease.
Most people do not have symptoms for 15 to 25 years. That does not mean hepatitis c is not affecting you. If you take care of yourself, eat a good diet, avoid the right drugs you will do better over all. There are other factors that need to be weighed
The subjects are predominately active drug addicts and therefore any complaints would carry no legal or even social power. no doubt massive sums are paid to this clinic and its medical staff for implementing these 'test procedures'. You make me want to cry. Did your doctor not explain to you the longer you wait before treatment the more likely HCV will establish a chronic infection? Kill it now! Before its to late. Take the drugs. I know it sucks, but please try to survive. Some people can clear the virus spontaneously without drugs but only 15% of patients.
The only medical treatment for Hepatitis C is peg-IFN alpha and ribavirin. It can cure 50% of patients with genotype 1 and 80% with genotype 2 and 3. Yes I know many have side effects and many can not complete treatment due to the side effects. But the treatment does cure many. Hopefully new drugs will be approved soon to decrease side effects. Its your liver but I suggust to at least give the meds a try to decrease your odds of liver failure/cancer. HCV can not be cured with herbs.
Hi bellcms, I like your numbers, but I don't think they are that high. I only have medical data collected by the PTB, and if one believes this data, it doesn't parallel with yours. The new tmt is the same with added immunogoblin, (sorry if it's miss-pelt) it's in trials right now, next Dec is when it will be finished trials. There isn't really an ability to test how long one has been infected. One could be asymptomatic till death, and not know till the autopsy. HCV can be cured with herb
There are several treatments in clinical trials currently. Viral protease inhibitors as well as Interferon lambda which is less toxic than Interferon alpha and shows great promise. After taking interferon for about 3 months and having turned into a monster with all family I threw it in the garbage, after thinking about it for a minute I fetched it out, took it outside, doused it with lighter fluid and watched it burn! The doctor said flu-like symptoms...bs...I still get mad thinking about the experience. I was never sick and after finally getting over taking it haven't been sick since. Had a terrible/life altering experience with Interferon. I was one of the few whom ended up with chemically enduced bipolar disorder (mania) as a result of the meds. spent 1 week in hospital after having two INTENSE mania attacks. Never been so scared in my life. Don't think I will ever take this drug again. In addition to the mania i lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks (sick as a dog) had EXTREME anxiety, lost my ability to sleep...I could go on. worst 3 months of my life.

The test you got was a HCV antigen test. Now they are going to do a viral load test.
Then they are going to tell you that if you do not do interferon that you are going to die from liver cancer. This is what I see and hear everyday. The medical community uses fear to push their drug. Get a copy of Triumph Over Hepatitis C and you can utilize the tools I did and live a healthy normal life.

They have meds for side effects. Your a good canidate to rid the virus forever. Stay on treatment. This guy just wants you to buy his supplements instead of trying interferon which does work in half the people with genotype 1A or 1B which is hardest to cure.
My mother went through and finished the interferon treatment more than 5 years ago. It worked perfectly! Virus is no longer detected after 1st, 3rd year, and all perfect now. She had all the mood swings and the side effects were terrible...but guess what..SHE IS ALIVE..so pls don't stop taking the treatment. Of course, everyone is different, but if there is a chance...why not take it???
I was diagnosed w/Hep C Geno type 2B a year ago and gave myself weekly injections for pegasys Interferon and took6 pills/day of ribavirin. So far the virus has not come back. It was very hard but if there's a chance, why not take it. I thank our Lord for guiding/helping me through this horrible disease.

I just recently found out I have Hep C (im 18 years old) I have no idea if I should do interferon or not. I'm going to the GI doctor next month to run some liver fuction tests and what not to see if there has been any damage. Hearing what everyone says about interferon makes me scared. If its so bad, then what are some alternatives? I don't want to be sick all my life from treatment, but yet again, I don't want this virus to cause life threatening problems either.

I believe in Lloyd, i have read his book and have found that health food from back in the day like when i was younger the 1960's to be exact was the day and still is the day today of herbal cure and relief of many symptoms of illnesses. I've tryed the teas and herbs along with a healthy diet and the less processed food you eat the better. I havent had a cold or the flu in a long time due to herbs and proper diet. note, get tested for alergies so you know what herbs to take just in case .

I have hep c and have had it for over 15 years, i'm 49 years old and have diet controlled diabetes, the effects of interferon has dramaticly scared me and i refuse to take even a bi-opsy of the liver because of the effects that causes. I drink the teas and now my enzymes levels have gone down to the 30's sometimes my levels go up because of my pre-menopause and the use of meds that i use for pain. is ibuprofen ok to use? do you have a video about exactly what we should and should not take?
I dont think so, it's not a humbug but what is that i already know about my own disease because i've already done my research classes and read many books and watched videos and even at my doctors request to a class or two on what is hep c, i've found that the teas really do work. Because i have never felt better in my life in a long time from drinking tea's!! hi loyd..im into week 9 now taking the evil interferon and copag...i have no real side effects yet but pain in my joints and legs so i take hydromorphone 4 mg...is this safe for me . it really helps me avoid the main side effects and i get a slight buzz which makes my day go better..i tire easy...is the pain meds safe for me in combo with the other hep c drugs

...continued. when i was taking the actual treatment i was perscribed ALOT of different medications for depression as this is listed as a side effect of interferon and riberviren (unsure of spelling). I decided half way through the treatment that as i was testing negative in blood tests that i did not want to take anymore of these injections or tablets...a few week later i felt on top of the world. i then had to confess to my dr that i had stopped. this didnt go well & they gave me an ultimatum.

I suggest you stop using peg intron. If you had a 4.0 and now you get a c, not that that is conclusive but it is possible it is a hint of what is to come. Many do not recover from interferon and you do not want to be one of those people.
do you honestly think that a doctor is correct on everything like taking synthetic medications, along with kemo thearpy, note: having interferon in our bodies is like taking kemo thearpy and it can kill your thyroid along with make you more sicker then you are. I am reading all of this and so many people seem to know so little about how the liver works and what diseases are caused by the liver not working well. You need to start there and learn, then you need to make sure they have the right tests. Many treat sucessfully, some treat with alternatives. You need to know when to do which or do both. You also have to abstain from things that hurt the liver and live a healthy life. Use all you read as information. Make and informed decision.
Lloyd, I too was told to take tylenol with my interferon. I became so depressed that the Dr took me off it. I had a transplant in 2002 and then took the Peg for a year and cleared the virus. It is correct that interferon should not be given to people who have diabetes. Antibiotics also have very serious and often fatal results when used in people with liver disease. I am not sure why doctors have ignored these facts.

I was on interferon and ribavirin for 72 weeks and did not have any side effects. I was convinced it wasn't working or I was doing something in correctly for the first few weeks. I have been virus-negative for over two years. Reactions to treatment are different person to person.

Part 2-Major memory loss -you can forget how to do simple math. First time I've ever experienced panic attacks and a breakdown.
I also HATE needles, so giving myself the shot could take sometimes half an hr.
Luckily the treatment worked for me but I still have anxiety and mild panic attacks. I swear my memory is worse now too.

@DavinaFaerie that is simply not true my freind.i am on interferon and ribavirin and never had any side effects period.i really think it depends on the person.i started treatment and almost immediatly started feeling better,and had no side effects.many people get flu like symptoms rash,heart problems but u have to counteract that.i eat healthy,exercise 5 days a week etc.that is how u beat this with meds and health.just cause it dont work for loyyd doesnt mean it dont work.try it,it saved me.

Well, i have had a different experience. I used it back 20 years ago, did not work, it is hard. Now 20 years later, tried again with the Ribavirin. It is hard going through the treatment again. Got a non-detectable response this time.

I had a very rough time on the pegasys I did one full year of it and now the hep c is back, and now they say there is a new medicine to go with the Pegasys,,, but I don't think I can do another year of it.... its been 6 months since I finished and I am barely feeling better, I have no friends little family and they can not take another round of treatment... I feel so very alone....

@trotwoodtrouble Hello, please consider that HCV rapidly mutates to protect itself from death by interferon. This natural action by the virus can protect it against another assult from interferon making a second round less effective.
You are not alone, this happens to many people who use interferon. You will do better with time. I had at least 6 emails today form people who said almost the same thing. It is amazing how many people use interferon without Sustained viral response.

@trotwoodtrouble i am so sorry you feel alone, my dad took interfuron about 10 years ago i was 15. he lost 45 pounds, he never slept he was like a zombie. i dont know much about his disease viral load ect, all i know is that 6 months every day he injected those vials that needed refrigeration. he shut off his wife and my sisters. i know he still has hep c. please note i am not saying not to take it. i thought if i share my story, you wont feel so alone. hope this helps a tad.

my doctor, put me on pegasys and copagus,and after my fourth injection my white blood cell count droped so low they told me to stop treatment, this has happened three times on and off treatment, the doctor also had me take the drug nuepogen,and wants a bone marrow biopsy. I just found out 2 months ago that my fiance and I are both HCV positive, genotype 2. She had it longer than me, not sure if i got it thru sharing needles w/her or sexually and its not important. She already feels sick and is going on interferon. I dont feel sick, just seroconverted withing the past couple months and have quit drinking and shooting heroin. Should I go on interferon right away or look into natural treatments?

The drugs have helped two of my friends and my blood test reveal that there is no trace of the virus. Hopefully I get off the drug soon and begin my journey back into life.

@overlillthomas Doctors are not allowed by law to prescribe anything for hepatitis c except FDA aproved drugs. Most of them have little or no knowledge about healthy ways to deal with disease. Find a local Naturalpath and get some healthy advise. Read Triumph Over Hepatitis C and learn about how you can deal with hepatitis C without putting yourself at risk of life long diabling side effects that are worse than the disease.

Most people do not have symptoms for 15 to 25 years. That does not mean hepatitis c is not affecting you. If you take care of yourself, eat a good diet, avoid the right drugs you will do better over all. There are other factors that need to be weighed

The subjects are predominately active drug addicts and therefore any complaints would carry no legal or even social power. no doubt massive sums are paid to this clinic and its medical staff for implementing these 'test procedures'. You make me want to cry. Did your doctor not explain to you the longer you wait before treatment the more likely HCV will establish a chronic infection? Kill it now! Before its to late. Take the drugs. I know it sucks, but please try to survive. Some people can clear the virus spontaneously without drugs but only 15% of patients.

The only medical treatment for Hepatitis C is peg-IFN alpha and ribavirin. It can cure 50% of patients with genotype 1 and 80% with genotype 2 and 3. Yes I know many have side effects and many can not complete treatment due to the side effects. But the treatment does cure many. Hopefully new drugs will be approved soon to decrease side effects. Its your liver but I suggust to at least give the meds a try to decrease your odds of liver failure/cancer. HCV can not be cured with herbs.

Hi bellcms, I like your numbers, but I don't think they are that high. I only have medical data collected by the PTB, and if one believes this data, it doesn't parallel with yours. The new tmt is the same with added immunogoblin, (sorry if it's miss-pelt) it's in trials right now, next Dec is when it will be finished trials. There isn't really an ability to test how long one has been infected. One could be asymptomatic till death, and not know till the autopsy. HCV can be cured with herb

There are several treatments in clinical trials currently. Viral protease inhibitors as well as Interferon lambda which is less toxic than Interferon alpha and shows great promise. The immunoglobulin treatment probaly won't work, but thats just my opinion. My numbers come from science studies. NATURE|Vol 436|18 August 2005|doi:10.1038/nature04082. The longer the virus in the host the more the virus is able to manipulate the host's immune response in its favor.

Schering ploughs published studies on peg intron show a 7% sustained viral response on geno type 1. Geno type one makes up over 90% of all infected people in the US.

the % it works on geno 1 is low @ 15%, the chance your own immune system will convert the disease is 20%. Have done 2 tmts. 2001 for 40wks, had to go off cuz i was dying 2nd tmt was 2007 for 73 wks. Did not work. Still am screwed up from the side effects. Alternative tmts that I suggest are Essiac Tea, Colloidal Silver, and oil of oregano. My LFT's are now normal, No hepatomegally, Just my mind and zest for life sucks. Lucky my family still loves me. Will not do another tmt, don't drink.

After taking interferon for about 3 months and having turned into a monster with all family I threw it in the garbage, after thinking about it for a minute I fetched it out, took it outside, doused it with lighter fluid and watched it burn! The doctor said flu-like symptoms...bs...I still get mad thinking about the experience. I was never sick and after finally getting over taking it haven't been sick since. I wish I had had this video and someone to talk to when I started.

Had a terrible/life altering experience with Interferon. I was one of the few whom ended up with chemically enduced bipolar disorder (mania) as a result of the meds. spent 1 week in hospital after having two INTENSE mania attacks. Never been so scared in my life. Don't think I will ever take this drug again. In addition to the mania i lost 30 pounds in 6 weeks (sick as a dog) had EXTREME anxiety, lost my ability to sleep...I could go on. worst 3 months of my life.

I first took interferon in 1998 and have been on it for as long as 14 straight months from daily injections to weekly injections with and without ribavirin and have endured six month treatments regularly for the past 11 years. Side effects have been and are life threatening. Interferon is a fraud perpetrated by Big Pharma But they get $20 to $30 K per year for each patient on it, with something like 9% sustained virologic success. It is a veritable crime. A true crime.

The test you got was a HCV antigen test. Now they are going to do a viral load test.
Then they are going to tell you that if you do not do interferon that you are going to die from liver cancer. This is what I see and hear everyday. The medical community uses fear to push their drug. Get a copy of Triumph Over Hepatitis C and you can utilize the tools I did and live a healthy normal life.

These were people who had not had previous treatment. Odds for the 2nd time round are even worse.
find it yourself on the New England Journal of Medicine website.
Alternative treatments work best if they do not 1st have to fix the damage of Interferon.

My mother went through and finished the interferon treatment more than 5 years ago. It worked perfectly! Virus is no longer detected after 1st, 3rd year, and all perfect now. She had all the mood swings and the side effects were terrible...but guess what..SHE IS ALIVE..so pls don't stop taking the treatment. Of course, everyone is different, but if there is a chance...why not take it???

I was diagnosed w/Hep C Geno type 2B a year ago and gave myself weekly injections for pegasys Interferon and took6 pills/day of ribavirin. So far the virus has not come back. It was very hard but if there's a chance, why not take it. I thank our Lord for guiding/helping me through this horrible disease.

I just recently found out I have Hep C (im 18 years old) I have no idea if I should do interferon or not. I'm going to the GI doctor next month to run some liver fuction tests and what not to see if there has been any damage. Hearing what everyone says about interferon makes me scared. If its so bad, then what are some alternatives? I don't want to be sick all my life from treatment, but yet again, I don't want this virus to cause life threatening problems either.

I believe in Lloyd, i have read his book and have found that health food from back in the day like when i was younger the 1960's to be exact was the day and still is the day today of herbal cure and relief of many symptoms of illnesses. I've tryed the teas and herbs along with a healthy diet and the less processed food you eat the better. I havent had a cold or the flu in a long time due to herbs and proper diet. note, get tested for alergies so you know what herbs to take just in case .

I have hep c and have had it for over 15 years, i'm 49 years old and have diet controlled diabetes, the effects of interferon has dramaticly scared me and i refuse to take even a bi-opsy of the liver because of the effects that causes. I drink the teas and now my enzymes levels have gone down to the 30's sometimes my levels go up because of my pre-menopause and the use of meds that i use for pain. is ibuprofen ok to use? do you have a video about exactly what we should and should not take?

I dont think so, it's not a humbug but what is that i already know about my own disease because i've already done my research classes and read many books and watched videos and even at my doctors request to a class or two on what is hep c, i've found that the teas really do work. Because i have never felt better in my life in a long time from drinking tea's!! hi loyd..im into week 9 now taking the evil interferon and copag...i have no real side effects yet but pain in my joints and legs so i take hydromorphone 4 mg...is this safe for me . it really helps me avoid the main side effects and i get a slight buzz which makes my day go better..i tire easy...is the pain meds safe for me in combo with the other hep c drugs

...continued. so i went back on the treatment, with no anti depressent back up and suffice to say i was thrown to kingdom come! i lost the power of speach, i became constantly 'drunk' i couldnt walk straight or see straight and when my family questioned the hepatologist, her reply was, "the treatment can have many side effects and is different to every person. ...continued. when i was taking the actual treatment i was perscribed ALOT of different medications for depression as this is listed as a side effect of interferon and riberviren (unsure of spelling). I decided half way through the treatment that as i was testing negative in blood tests that i did not want to take anymore of these injections or tablets...a few week later i felt on top of the world. i then had to confess to my dr that i had stopped. this didnt go well & they gave me an ultimatum.

I suggest you stop using peg intron. If you had a 4.0 and now you get a c, not that that is conclusive but it is possible it is a hint of what is to come. Many do not recover from interferon and you do not want to be one of those people.

your body does not release interferon at the same levels that taking the manufactured version puts into your body. Your body also releases opioids at levels that are good for you, but when you start injecting highly concetrated versions of opioids you can die.
Injecting interferon gives your brain an overdose.

C until I started 'filling' with fluid in late 2004 ... for more than a year I talked myself into believing that the fluid will 'go away' ... it didn't, so in the end I had to see a doctor (previous to that, I hadn't been to see a doctor for 12 years!!). I was VERY lucky that I was on a 'waiting list' for a transplant for just ONE DAY (March 2006), but now I find that Hep C is destroying my 'new' liver as well ... what to do?!

The doctors at the hospital where I had a liver transplant 2.5 years ago (due to hep C causing cirrhosis) want to put me on interferon/ribavarin within a week, as my viral load is very high & biopsy showed some fibrosis. The fear of side-effects made me check out other possible treatments and I have been urged to first try intravenous vitamin C & ozone therapy (both administered by qualified practitioners of 'integrated medicine' at a clinic), though it's not cheap .... cont ....

I am reading all of this and so many people seem to know so little about how the liver works and what diseases are caused by the liver not working well. You need to start there and learn, then you need to make sure they have the right tests. Many treat sucessfully, some treat with alternatives. You need to know when to do which or do both. You also have to abstain from things that hurt the liver and live a healthy life. Use all you read as information. Make and informed decision.

Lloyd, I too was told to take tylenol with my interferon. I became so depressed that the Dr took me off it. I had a transplant in 2002 and then took the Peg for a year and cleared the virus. I must have been lucky cause I didn't have any of the side effects that people talk about. I hope I haven't gotten any brain damage from the treatment but who knows. Thank you for your prompt response. I do not go around sueing people, it's done too much! But as you noted, poor medical practice should be taken to task! They are dealing with human life.

thank you for the information. My beloved finacee, a nurse himself, died last Nov., after only two shots of interfuron. He had 103 fevor, then sepis infection, then liver failure.
When I checked on-line I read that interfuron should never be given to someone with diabetes, which he had.
Who should be sued the doctor, or the drug company which produces this highly toxic drug?
I have lost the best man I ever knew, in only ten months.

People are leaving out how sick are they and what other illnesses do they have that hep C brought on, like varices , acities, etc. What was the cause of death.

My fiancee just past-away after taking inter-furon twice, from an infection he got after taking the drug, then being treated with anti-biotics, after which his liver failed and he died, aged 54.
I would like to sue the doctor who perscribed the drug because my fiancee also had diabetes 2, and he never should have been given interfuron due to that, and how you have described the drugs effects!

Hello Lucy,
I am very sorry that this happened to you and your fiancee.
It is correct that interferon should not be given to people who have diabetes. Antibiotics also have very serious and often fatal results when used in people with liver disease. I am not sure why doctors have ignored these facts.
I do not like lawsuits, but there is no other way to bring attention to the use of this barbaric drug. Melody Beattie's ex- husband died on his first shot of interferon.
