  • I love how the second top comment has 0 likes.

  • Great vid - you prefer the Bushmaster Varmitter or Ruger mini 14?

  • porque no el 243 no se seria un mejor tiro y mas sertero

  • great bullet i use this for elk hunting!

  • what kind of "ballistic test " is that ? lol

  • @tnoutdoors9...... I was wondering if this would be a suitable home defense round. If you need another video topic .223/5.56 home defense ammo options would be awesome.

  • i bought a pack of those these are really tough but expensive

  • awesome review..just bought these rounds a few weeks ago..they were a bit on the high price but they look bad ass and by the looks of your review now i know the round has a nice sharp expansio..thnx again..

  • These bullets are not lead, right?

  • what would be a good rifle for deer hunting overall?

  • @plach16 Any rifle chambered in .308, if you are just using it for deer hunting then buy a bolt action, it shoots more accuracy.

  • Wow, that is a VERY nice rifle. How much did the full setup cost?

  • As a hunter myself, what was the reason for shooting the opossum? Food, rabies, defensive (as in coyotes, wild dogs) or just for fun? I suspect the latter. Don't care much for a man that shoots animals for enterainment.

  • woho! TN! Apparently we are known as the patron state of shooting stuff! where do you live man? i live in Dickson County.

  • what kind of bipod is that?

  • Hey on what distance did you mesure that 3200-3300fps bullet ?

    Tom

  • ugh i want an ar-15 soooo bad but the local age to have job is 16 here in missouri >___< i got like 5 months till i can even get a job!!!! but tell me how well do you think these would work against a person (im not a psyco but my friends uncle has an ar-15 for self defence...of course we all agree a hand gun is just another way to get to a real gun (not nocking you hand gun extreamists just saying my opinion) but i also think a .223 is tomuch for home defence il stick with my hi point carbine

  • ugh i want an ar-15 soooo bad but the local age to have job is 16 here in missouri >___< i got like 5 months till i can even get a job!!!! but tell me how well do you think these would work against a person (im not a psyco but my friends uncle has an ar-15 for self defence...of course we all agree a hand gun is just another way to get to a real gun (not nocking you hand gun extreamists just saying my opinion)

  • how much for a bolt action .223

  • If you want this rifle you need to ask for bushmaster's VARMINT SPECIAL ( stainless

barrel ) the "varminter" gets you a differant barrel!.......

  • awesome vid. i totally need to make a few of those jugs for the next time i go shooting

  • .223 with FMJ / Slow expanding bullet is actually pretty good for bagging roe deers here in arctic circle :) It works just fine.

  • Alright, listen up dude, that "oxide" coating you say is on the bullet is ballistic moly, it helps the bullet fly more consistent longer making it more accurate, it also comes off the bullet somewhat in the barrel and coats the crap out of it making it hard to clean. If your gonna post something be right. How often do you predator hunt anyway, you dont really know what your talking about

  • @sandmankid no offense but actually if you look it up its not a moly coating. it appears to be, but its not. its just some oxide coating that winchester put on the bullet for appearance. I used to think it was molly but if you touch one of winchesters and an actuall molly coated bullet you can tell the difference.

  • how many guns in total do you own??

  • I use the 35grain ballistic silvertip . 3800fps its nasty. anybody do a test on it on ballistic gel yet????

  • WOW. I was a bit surprised at the results. I've been researching .223 effectiveness because my fiance is interested in a bolt-action rifle, but something a bit lighter than the milsurp Soviet stuff I have around the house (recoil isn't an issue for her, but weight). She won't touch the semi-auto carbines and I don't have much experience with non com-bloc rifles. But, MAN... this shows that a .223 can be an effective round. I'm coloured impressed.

  • @neothespian If you liked this, you might want to take a look at a 22-250. Really fast & flat shooting! Not a hard kick.

  • I think this is a great combat round. But not so good for someone who is intent on murdering you. If you shot a soldier with this round they would if they survivded no longer care to fight you. They also could be saved which is nice. You only want to disable a threat if possible. Some crazy drugged out people do manage to continue to fight. So this may not be a good home protection or law enforcement round. I love it for varmit and such.

  • @meronmotors How so? From what I read the original 55gr FMJ that was used by the military was very fast )3200ft/sec) not as stabalized with a 1in12 rotation and it was an effective man stopper as it would frag or yaw leaving very nasty damage. This round went strait, did not frag, but openned up and I would imagine shred a lot of tissue. Not saying you are wrong, I would not mind being corrected at all. What would an affective .223 look like for self defense?

  • @mojothemigo You are correct regaurding the fragmentation and yaw. The round tumbles frags and does some very serouis damage. This is very effective at droping an enemy to his knees. I saw a young man who was shot in the thigh by a off dutyt officer who had been drinking. This thiegh is like nothing I had ever seen before. It was about 20-24 inches wide. The swelling was so severe. They had to amputate the leg. The bone had become millions of specks of matter along with the bullet.

  • @mojothemigo The leg looked how Id imagine if youd stuck a m80 or somthing similiar in the leg and let it burst. I have seen gunshot wounds in the pas. This was so diffrent. The problem here is people dont die instantly as often as youd hope. They go down. Now you have 2-4 soldiers helping him move or tending his wounds.that means youve taken that many more out of the fight. I have heard many stoories from local law (Los angeles) that they will shoot a intoxicated threat and they will keep runnin

  • @mojothemigo They end up dieing hoever in this time they can shoot you or someone around or detonate there suicide bombs. I would prefer a 30.06 for sure intant disablement. a .308 would be good too. I am not one of those bigger is better guys at all. I love the .223 and would prefer it in 9/10 situations. A issue with the .223 hollow point is if ANYTHING is in your way even a blade of grass it bursts. If you have to shoot through a door or a thin wall it will start to frag.

  • @meronmotors Interesting on all your accounts. However, I would be hard pressed to use ball of any kind in a home invasion scenario. I know in war, you have to worry about shooting through barriers, in a 'with rule of law scenario' and you are confronting a badguy(s) in your home and you don't want a lot of barrier penetration, I've been told by many others round that hollow points that frag and penetrate are better man stoppers then handguns an pentrate barriers less then shotguns.

  • Yeah. That'll knock the sense into, and out of, back into, and back out of a coyote.... for sure... and a bi-pedal species if u got the money lol.

  • Nice info and test for that round. Looks like it will give a nice, immediate expansion and provide a neat wound cavity for a clean kill.

    Thank TN

  • greetings from Spring Hill!

  • Easily it can kill a deer. The right bullet and placement are key. Head/high neck shots are best. Nice vid!

  • balistic tip rounds explode wen they hit bone i dont think th plastic and wet paper had enough densitity

  • so where exactly were you aiming on the target, im just a little confused on it going high at 100 when sighted to 200

  • @Calum041095 The bullet rises from the barrel then drops to the point of impact it was sighted in at. @100 yards it may hit an inch high above the cross hairs, 200 yrds 0in hopefully right on the cross hairs, and say 300 yrds it may drop 1-2 inches below the crosshairs pending bullet wieght and velocity. Those arent exact numbers just estimates. other factors, especially overall skill of the shooter are important too. .223 shoots flat to 300 yrd but still has a tracjectory. hope that helps

  • The Silvertips are devestating rounds as you can see in this video. Very bad for about anything yoiu hit with it. Great video !

  • Just got my first two deer last week in W. Tenn with 55gr Hornaday Vmax with muzzle velocity of about 3070 fps. First one was lasered at 230 yds and the second at just over 300 yds. Both hit in the lung area and each went no more than 50 ft. Did a post mortem on the second deer. The lung/heart cavity was nothing more than a bloody mush.

  • Greetings from Nashville =)

  • deer beware also

  • ballistic silvertip- if you hit an animal in ribs mainly- any part it crushes everything in it

  • bottom line is 223 is a small fast round not very powerful fun to shoot i call them the superman of 22 cal. i like 7.62x39 its cheaper and hits alot harder ak ftw

  • @trigun890 its not even close to the superman of the 22 calibers. its maybe a tweety bird. Look into the 220 swift and 22-250.

  • Great for hunting and great accuracy to hunt deers from a distance.

  • Good stuff!!

  • what would be a good round to hunt whitetail deer with in 223?

  • @rockhardrs

.223 is legal in my state, Tennessee. I was talking to a neighbor/hunter today, and we both felt that any load with a headshot would do it. Although it could work quickly, I'm not a fan of taking a typical thoracic shot on a deer with the .223 .

  • @tnoutdoors9 if you are talking about EXTREME close range self defence and if a .223 is all you have, I like the M193 ball

  • @tnoutdoors9 .223 is for small varmit hunting only, not for deer. It's a .22, enough said.

  • @DRAGOONSPANDORA75 Get hit in the thigh with one and you would surely change your mind, I'd bet you have no experience with one anyway.

Many terrorists have fallen to the round with FMJ bullets, if they were using bullets like these over there it would be even better.

  • @tnoutdoors9 i got a 6 point buck this year in mi with .223 55 grain. droped right in its tracks.

  • @tnoutdoors9

No offence...but if your shooting for the head on a deer...you should sell your guns. No hunter with a bit of grey matter would shoot for the head. If you miss/clip or wound a deer in the head...your in the realms of animal cruelty.

ALWAYS aim for the kill zone behind the shoulder.

And a 5.56/.223 round...would NOT be sufficient for a clean kill.

  • @tnoutdoors9 where did you get the grip on the varminter?

  • i had great sucess with 75grain hollow piont

  • @rockhardrs if u are a good enough shot u can kill a deer with any gun

  • @rockhardrs I build professionally ARs for resale, many of my clients and my self use our AR's for hunting dear The best 223 loads we use for deer in Oregon and in Alaska are loaded with the 60 grain to 70 grain Barns X bullets over 25 grains of Hodgdon Benchmark Powder .

The solid copper hollow point Barns X retains 98 to 100 % weight .

One of these Barns X bullets through the lungs is always death on deer .

For factory 223 hunting ammo you are very limited to being stuck with Varmint ammo ..

  • @rockhardrs try find TMJ rounds if you can or Non-lead bullets, That is if your gonna eat the deer

  • @rockhardrs forget .223, use min. of a .243 for deer. .223 can barely take out a coyote more than 200 yards. I use a 6.8, four times the energy of a .223.

  • @rockhardrs id go with like a Hornady match 75gr. hollow point and its all about shot placement you have to make sure you put the shot right were it needs to be and the .223 will bring a deer down with no problem

  • that be a good bullet for deer hunting

  • full fucking metal jacket....

  • i shot a doe with my .223 super shot mag and it look like someone took a saw to the heart and lungs

  • i shot i a doe with my .223 ballistic tip and when i my dad and i gutted it.it look like someone took a saw to the lungs and heart

  • any value in the silver in them bullets ? like a walking liberty coin?

  • whats the fps on these rounds

  • who disliked this video

  • I shot a possum 4 times in the head with a .22 and it was still kicking for 1minute. Creepy.

  • @Roflzmahwoflz

Those things are tough..... .22 or even 12 gauge.

  • @tnoutdoors9 check the comment reply to roflzmahwoflz LOL

  • @tnoutdoors9 i saw a rifle exactly like that with the stainless barrel. that monster is heavy to lug around...(for an AR15 i mean :P )

  • @tnoutdoors9 recoioal wise what gauge of shot gun would resemble the kick of a 223

  • @tnoutdoors9

yeah opossum's are weird animals for sure i used my 870, 18 inch barrel cylinder choke on one with 000 buck and that thing did two complete flips and got up and continued walking about two hundred feet before it finally died i don't get it

  • @Roflzmahwoflz My bro and i have a video up where we go hunting. He nailed a possum in the head with a 22 mag revolver, thing was kicking around, and the 12 gauge made quick work of it after that. But I'll be damned if that mag didn't anchor it LOL that thing was done before it died basically lol. Here's the link: /watch?v=Wycj-OjXwOM

  • @Roflzmahwoflz nerves?, or was it still alive?

  • @Roflzmahwoflz thats the nerves for you, we shot a deer in the head and it just about kicked out our back window in the truck 45 min after we shot it.

  • @Roflzmahwoflz haha :) i shot a fox in the head twice with a .22 using hollow points and it was still kicking, creepy shit.

  • @Roflzmahwoflz with nerves or life?

  • @Roflzmahwoflz

yeah man, i unloaded a .22 revolver into a sick one one time, and that think rolled around and kicked forever. finally i unloaded another cylinder into it and it stopped.

  • haha i thought it is .22 but that BOOOM xD

  • I want that weapon!

  • Oct 2010 - I'll be doing a full review of this rifle sooner than later.

  • What a great video, well thought out and completed, I have a new found respect the the 223 Remington round when loaded with Winchester Ballistic Silvertip.ammo.

    Well Done!

  • we have the same sawhorses as you lol

  • no handloading ??

  • I like your video...however you don't seem to know the rifle you are shooting

is not a varminter but is a bushmaster varmint special (stainless barrel)

the varminter has a 4150 barrel.

  • @larrysquared

It is technically a Varmint Stainless Special, but still a Varminter.

  • @tnoutdoors9 Checked Bushmaster's web site and in the product description

they never once used the word " Varminter " . I have one of these and love it. So

far the best 5 shot group was ~ 5/8" @ 100 yards ( umc fmj oddly enough ).

  • what kind of grip is that

  • i found these in my local gun store in australia. Great and accurate in my tikka t3 .223

  • do these expand good?

  • @TheAirsoftmaster3

They essentially explode in a soft target, so I guess you could call that expansion!

  • @tnoutdoors9 how much

  • @TheAirsoftmaster3 you see that at the end, tard. watch the video again.

  • that's a great video, ive been looking into getting a .223 savage!

  • Tn, Is u`r gun The Bushmaster Stainless Varmint Special ?

  • I am guessing this round would pass completely through a person at 100 yards? I don't know alot about long range penetration of living targets.

  • would this round be good for hunting mule deer and hogs????? right now im shooting some cheap FMJ ammo made buy some russian brand i switched because winchester stopped makin my fav bullet soooo

  • @MrMdr96

Just my opinion, but I don't think you would have sufficient penetration, in particular on hogs. Lots of heavy mass on those critters.

  • @MrMdr96 I would use something a little bigger like a 30-06 but as we all know a well placed round is key. I have killed many hogs and white tail deer with a 30-06 using winchester silver tip 168 grain

  • wash your hands after handling lead!

  • @succawal

I always carry soap and water in SUV, paper towels, etc.

  • i have a question, y was my comment earlier removed? just wondering, cant remember wat i said.

  • @747pro

Not that I'm aware. I rarely remove comments. Feel free to repost.....

  • can you get the same rounds for a .223 WSSM as i got one myself

  • wow nice gun

  • i have the same gun and i can say i feel it is the best gun around. anyone who says otherwise, i dont care to know so dont reply to this if you dont have anything good to say, i dont care!

  • that is beautiful. That would be pefect for javelina and coyotes

  • Good job man. i'm very surprised that bullet didn't disintegrate. Like your idia of newspaper jugs.

  • Very very good video!

  • well that's interesting, obviously a bit tougher than the likes of the V-max...Keep these .223 ammo reviews coming!- what about a small deer hunting load?- thinking along the lines of federal 60gn Nosler partition.....

    Cheers

  • @danebrewer10 I shot 2 deer last night with these 180m out dropped them dead in there track this is a devastating round went rite threw them and just stop short of exiting and the round mushroomed as good as this in the video. i shot one threw the spin and turned the bone to pulp and the bullet did not fragment i took some photos of the deers skun the bruising was mad

  • @danebrewer10 This is the pictures of one of these hitting a deer watch?v=DTNvjCUZ29E

id have no hesitation shooting a large deer in the heart with this round it holds together and mushrooms nicely even after passing threw bone

  • @Brookssteff oh I have no doubt that a .223 will dish the dirt on even fairly large deer well, but I'd probably use it for deer up to and including roe deer, which stand mid thigh height, anything larger like fallow, which I are a bit bigger, abouth a smaller whitetail I think, depending on where you live, I'd opt for something bigger like a .243, .308 or 6.5, I guess you use what you have, and with a good solid bullet you can go far, but for me, I would have issues about

  • @Brookssteff shooting an animal with something that would give marginal performance if shot placement was not %100, for shooting the odd deer now and again, then I'd imagine it's ok, but for serious deer culling, like I say, personally I'd want something with a bit more clout it's like that fact that I have retired my airgun to shooting pigeons in barns and squirrels out of trees, as I feel that the 17 HMR does a far better job on rabbits with almost no chance of wounding and the animal escaping

  • I would like to have a rifle like that one.

  • Your videos are entertaining & informative without too much of either. I've enjoyed blowing apart milk jugs for years & like your spin on making an interesting impact zone. I like the Prvi Partizan .223 75gr BTHP for it's decent accuracy & price. But my wifes RRA LAR-15 & my POF P-415 will also do well with Brown or Silver Bear steel fodder. AIM Surplus has good prices on Prvi .223 69gr BTHP. I don't shoot too much of the Hornady or Black Hills stuff as much lately due to the outrageous prices.

  • good video, good work!

  • it's fun to fill them full of sand.

  • @747pro

Now there's an idea....wet or dry?

  • @tnoutdoors9 I have tried this in the past with subsonic hollowpoint .22LR, and it, surprisingly mushroomed the bullet as you might expect from flesh, the sand was dry and very fine, more like sand you find on the beach, fine white sand I forget what it's properly called...

  • Comment removed

  • @tnoutdoors9

    Both :D

  • @747pro wow good idea!

  • Great test !

  • My penis would stop that bullet. @noisemostbeautiful i didnt see this till i got into my inbox, this is my account but due to registration issues on other computers in the house, im not the only one to use it. I deleted the comment and will say i absolutely respect and utilize the right and many others men before me have fought and died for. As for this round being good for human yotes, i think its a no brainer.

  • how exactly did you make those jugs? fill em up with newspaper then fill it up with water? and how long did they sit before you shot them? i want to try it with 7.62x39 jhp

  • @akshooter762 I would also like to see some AK-47 rounds tested that would be awesome.

  • @ akshooter762

I'll send you the recipe, but I'm also going to post it in the context of a video description soon.

  • @tnoutdoors9

Can you send me a recipe too because i do something very similar to this but yours seem much more compact.

    Thanx

  • this bullet looks like a kind to kill vampires lols

  • @SuperDwang It is for killing vampires and zombies too :)

  • @zx2kain lol indeed and for wannabe vampire xD

  • This might be a bit much, but is there any reason to think this wouldn't make a good round for those human coyotes? You know, the kind that skulk around and try to come on the property and take and eat things that arn't theirs. Thanks. Looks like a good round for a defensive carbine. Recomended for an A4?

  • Comment removed

  • AmAce, I'm neither kid nor cowboy. I've been (touching?) carrying firearms for years on duty in service and have defended both myself and third partys against armed criminals. One must be a bit pre-emptive as you put when you engage in such serious actions as I have. I assure you sir, you'd have a hard time finding anyone more safe with firearms than myself. There are many among us who would freely and easily hurt you and your family, do not be deceived, I've seen too much evidence of this!

  • @MrAmericanAce what is your stance on the right to bear arms? Are you pro Brady Bill? Do you believe we have the right to self defense? I don't assume these privilidges are given, but so many good men have had to die to earn these priv. that I have a hard time taking it for granted as so many do. It gives me pause, as it should everyone. Even if you are a hunter or plinker...otherwise why would you be watching this video, those same men have afforded your simple hobby. A bit of thanks? -N

  • i think i better some of these for my rem 700!!!

  • @ karllevin1

I was stalking the ammo selection at a Nashville WalMart last week and they actually had this on the shelf.

  • great now im 99.99999999 % sure im getting it

  • i love the hole rifle TN. except the buldge at the end of the grip. can u take that off..

  • @ camelkiller22

Yes, the bottom of the grip can be removed. Mine came with the rifle that way.

  • wow interesting results! good penetration and the bullet staying relatively intact. very cool

  • nice..

  • What is the barrel length and twist rate on that rifle?

Try buying some of that kitty litter made from recycled newspapers and fill your milk jugs with that (and water) sometime.

  • @spacemanspiff2012

    22 inches and 1 in 9 I believe

  • 24" and 1 to 9

  • I will test some V-MAX early 2010.

  • @tnoutdoors9 can u coyote hunt with a mossberg 270

  • I don't see why not. The caiber is legal here.

  • alright because thats wat i killed my first coyote with.

  • @TheBighen30 im pretty sure you can hunt with it, it's way more powerful than a .223

  • @akshooter762 ok thanks yea there nice guns for there price

  • Interesting. I would not have thought that the bullet would stay intact.

  • i shoot this out of my browning in .223 wssm it 4200fps it great.

  • I guess shooters like this load, know I do. I try to keep a few boxes (and mags) of this around. And it's easy to find....Bass Pro usually has it, and think I saw some at WalMart. Nothing better than availability of good ammo.....at a decent price.

More .223 ballistic tip tests planned....they are fun.

  • nice shot! 5/5

  • nice video

  • Fantastic video! Keep up the good work.

  • Great test ! 5 stars

  • I have seen them bigger then that in the past. It depends on how good the corn crops are, and how much rain fall's. It seems the rainfall makes a big difference on the amounts of game size also. They last few years they have been smaller overall.Coyote's are getting crazy thick, and many County's are placing bounty's on them. There doing so much livestock damage .

  • Great shot and test of that round .Looks to be a great all around varmints load. Even the 30 to 45 # groundhogs in the NE TN Tri state areas. I thought it would have completely fragment. But it's good to see that it did not.Could have something to do with the setup you shot it trough. Who knows ? Another great video.Thanks..

  • You have 45 lb. groundhogs? Good grief, I would be having a field day.

  • would the ballistic silvertips be good for defense as well?

  • It would probably do OK on someone up to 100 yards, possibly 200. For the house AR magazine, I stuff it with 55gr NATO.

  • Thanks.

  • great video. i was expecting the bullet to completely fragment.

  • I have stopped deer dead in their tracks with this exact load in .223 and 115gr in .25-06. The Winchester ballistic silvertip ammo is devastating..

  • What leupold model scope do you have?

  • Mark III 4.5 x 14.5 50mm objective lens....I think that is correct...working from memory. It is at least 4 years old....never fogged, always clear, and does well in lower-light conditions.

  • I shoot the same bullets in my 22-250 coyote slayer......fast, flat, and deadly!

  • Do they make this same bushmaster AR in .204 ruger.
