I defintely agree with WinterHaven's remarks about prevention being the key. We can see a trend in the markets and lifetstyles leaning more towards a healthier choice, but thats still far below what is needed. If people even execrised 1 hour a day and ate a little better than that alone would be a remarkable cost savings. The Republican stance regarding public option is about control-not health care: The Republicans want this public option to fail so they will take control of the house and senate in 2010. They know it very well this is what it's all about. It simply means the Republicans don't give a rat's behind about your health or that of America. I say democrats need DECISIVE and push it through because the republicans will NOT compromise, and if it fails Republicans will be voted out of office.
BUT the democrats MUST BE DECISIVE because IF it fails, there must be NO DOUBT in the public's mind the democrats were at fault. The blame MUST be put on the Republicans, and the blue-dog Democrats. There's no need to use the supermajority to invoke cloture. Health care reform can be passed with budget reconciliation with as little as 51%. And if the Republicans whine about it the Democrats can simply remind them of the THREE F-ING TIMES they used budget reconciliation to ram through Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, causing the deficits to explode.

I defintely agree with WinterHaven's remarks about prevention being the key. We can see a trend in the markets and lifetstyles leaning more towards a healthier choice, but thats still far below what is needed. If people even execrised 1 hour a day and ate a little better than that alone would be a remarkable cost savings. Excellent point, and lets hope programs will be put in place to entice people to become healthier.

I have government provided health care. I have always had it, ever since I was a child. This is because of the fact that I have grown up in a military family. The military provides all its soldiers and sailors with health care for free. this is the same socialized healthcare that Obama is putting forth. Similar example, my parent split when i was 13, my younger sister stayed with my Ma, she only heard my moms side of the story so she was brain washed she just hated my dad so much when he loved her so, I listened to both and decided they both were wrong. Yeah but most do NOT cover all States. I have private insurance, and most of those do NOT take private payers. I have no choice but to have private insurance. Let me warn you that hospitals have seen massive "cash accounts"-overall 50% increase, over the past year - which means they get NO MONEY. Hospitals are a business with operating costs, and they will eventually be forced to shut down plunging us to third world country standards. You think I'm kidding? CALL AROUND AND ASK THEM.

The Republican stance regarding public option is about control-not health care: The Republicans want this public option to fail so they will take control of the house and senate in 2010. They know it very well this is what it's all about. It simply means the Republicans don't give a rat's behind about your health or that of America. I say democrats need DECISIVE and push it through because the republicans will NOT compromise, and if it fails Republicans will be voted out of office.

BUT the democrats MUST BE DECISIVE because IF it fails, there must be NO DOUBT in the public's mind the democrats were at fault. The blame MUST be put on the Republicans, and the blue-dog Democrats. It will piss off the public so bad they WILL be voted out of power in 2010. But if the democrats try to "compromise" and kiss the asses of the Republicans-the DEMOCRATS will be blamed for being spineless and weak-and will be 100% accountable for its failure. The people elected Obama for health care change-stick the original plan-and let the Republicans fight against it all the want. Let them. I think the time for discussion and debate is over and it's time for show down-the people are hurting, and it's time for Obama to make the call. When it comes to the bottom line-the individual's pocket-that will over ride any party loyalty. More people are losing h/c insurance-it's driving premiums higher and higher - soon employers will be dropping h/c policies to save money-no choice. H/C costs will go up about 100% yearly if nothing is done-spiraling deeper. When the people are without health care, who do you think they are going to want to LYNCH-it will NOT be Obama-it will be the republicans who killed their health insurance.

There's no need to use the supermajority to invoke cloture. Health care reform can be passed with budget reconciliation with as little as 51%. And if the Republicans whine about it the Democrats can simply remind them of the THREE F-ING TIMES they used budget reconciliation to ram through Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy, causing the deficits to explode.
After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. They should take it as a compliment.

We need health reform now, and I support the public option because of the competition it would create. Some people may say that they don't want to pay for other people's health care, but what they don't realize is that they ARE already paying for the uninsured. The average family pays approx. $900 per year for those without insurance. We just don't know it because the cost is paid through our premiums or by our employer who then can't afford to give us a raise.
