How can they cut Track & Field? Along with Football and Basketball, Track & Field is one of a high school or University's most important and valuable athletic programs. I can't believe there gonna cut it..
Hey, I just Transferred down here to OU, I'm a Web Developer, So If you want to get a website going about this, or want to gain some other type of Web Presence let me know!
I was a walk-on for Coach Banton's incredibly memorable cross country program in 1982 and 83. Mo, thanks for all you've ever done for hundreds of kids, even a 'slower' guy like me. He once told me "if you can handle my workouts you deserve to be on my team." Through track and cross country, he has done SO MUCH for the OU community, now the University needs to continue the tradition even though he has retired.
hey guys thanks for all the support. the situation still hasnt improved here at OU, but that def. doesnt mean that we will stop fighting. for more info google saveousports or bringingbackohiotrack (all one word) and KEEP SHARING THIS VIDEO WITH ALL YOU KNOW WHO CARE ABOUT TRACK AND FIELD!
I'm a high schooler whose whole life is track and if it was just taken away from me i'd be lost. Good Luck and i'll follow this story because this is the first time i've heard of it.
I am a high school coach in Northern Ontario who has been running and coaching cross country and track and field since 1974. Don't ever give up the fight, because there are a lot of kids in high school in your area who need track and field in college. Do it for them. Saving this team may be harder than any training you've done yet, but it is also more important. Good Luck.
I run track for St. Johns University in NY. We had more olympians come from the t&f team than any other sport combined. We had an Olympian and World junior athlete on the team and they still cancelled our program. Good luck on your fight.
Your AD is a jerk for cutting a sport like Track and Field, but it is also a Title 9 issue. Since women don't have football, one of the other sports must not be offered to men. The same thing happened at my College to men's indoor track.
I am doing an education project on Title IX and I was wondering if i could use the two videos as the opening and ending of the powerpoint, if you could just let me know I would greatly appreciate it. I would need them emailed to my school address so I could put it into the powerpoint. Thanks for your consideration and great videos!
I ran track for UB for three years from 02-04 I was very upset when BG was shut down and followed by WM and toledo this seems to be a horrible trend in our country because we do not bring in enough money to show the admins that we are worthy to keep the meager funding that they allow. i think it is horrible that a long tradition may end when the last race is run at NCAA's in june. I wish everyone the best and i will be say a prayer for you.
"I don't know why..." I do. It's called Title IX. They cut one women's program and three men's because the budget has been strained to the point of absurdity by forced compliance to affirmative action based crap. They are forced to balance the amount of money to men's and women's sports, even though there are twice as many male athletes as female. As a result, men's track and field, swimming, and wrestling get cut so they can balance the books on a gender basis.
This one hurts so much. I never received a penny from Ohio University to run, but I walked on the men's cross country team for one season and immediately counted a team of fine young men as my friends. Most of those runners also competed in track and field, and a few will be affected by this next year.
Teams are cut at universities across the nation. Prior to this point, we at OU had been fortunate. Why OU officials now chose to cut the Bobcats' men's track and field team, I don't know
you guys really got screwed. mcdavis is such a...well, you know. they really don't know how to spend our money here. its about time some one stood up to them.
One year anniversary...still trying our hardest to Take Back Men's Track...still refusing to go quietly

Cutting track and field is stupid. My uncle is an alumn and is withholding his money this year because of that decision.

Hopefully everything goes well, track and field is truly one of the best sports that should not be eliminated for any reason.

Thanks for putting this together whoever is reponsible. From a 1994 Grad athlete - been running all my life and feel this is a disgrace.

I wish I did.
Thank you for putting faces and names with the program so Roderick McDavis, Kirby Hocutt and others might be haunted just a little longer.
I will forever run with the Bobcats.
