While in southern Arizona in'08 I had a long chat with a young man from Minnesota who had taken criminology courses etc which he thought he would need to apply for a AZ Border Patrol officer. He was 6'4" over 200 lbs raised on a farm. He was shocked to hear his size was the main hiring factor not the prep work he thought he would need. He was equally surprised by the generous salary. I could tell he was thinking of returning to MN thinking things weren't on the straight.

And this is only the border patrol. Once the drugs are inside the US, they have to get to every school, club, and street corner. That can only happen with the help of corrupt cops.

Just like police precincts across the country, federal agencies also have their dishonest or unethical cops. Do not fault the Border Patrol for this. Many, many people are denied a job with the BP. However, it is nigh impossible to catch all of the corrupt ones before they become agents. Instead of crying out against the Border Patrol, rejoice that they are proactively pursuing these criminals that deface the agency. They ARE cops and they became cops to protect us.

18000 officers, in 3 shifts so 6000 officers per shift, lets say some are in the office so 5000 per shift available, that on the southern border would mean 1 officer for every 1/2 mile or so, sounds good to me, put them there, where they belong.

Here on the Texas border, there has been an increase in border patrol corruption cases. That includes instances of agents allowing smuggled drugs through at inland checkpoints. I'll dig through online news reports and I'll sent them to you for your website. An added note: the low quality of new BP recruits is real obvious around here.

Corruption is a good reason for a small impotent govt. A high percentage of bureaucrats break laws. You can see by the way the police drive, they are above the law. Drugs get into prisons through the guards; of course some of the drugs coming into the country get here the same way. Sometimes, the govt is the dealer like in this story. Remember Iran-Contra? Hypocrites suck.
