  • Note: the Caldera Cone, as shown in the video, is not centered over the stove. Having the cone centered over the stove would have reduced the boil time by one minute (based on my testing).

  • 20ml of water? You only need 15ml (~1/2 oz) to boil 2 cups of water with the Caldera Cone. I have the MSR Titan Ketlle + Caldera Cone, this isn't my fastest stove, but it is my most efficient.

  • It would seem to me that, in the wind the Caldera may have the upper hand, having a more complete shrouding from the wind, giving it a faster boil time that the more exposed Evernew.

  • To the guy who crushed his cone... call the company, they may replace it no charge. Tell them you're disappointed that it's so fragile (be truthful, tell them you accidentally stepped on it). Ask them if there's any way you can get a replacement cone (just the cone part). Most companies are very generous in this regard.

I made my own Caldera Cone from roof flashing. The main reason I like the design is for situations where you may run out of fuel and can use it as a wood gas stove.

  • I have the Caldera Cone and think it is a good stove. However, the Caldera Cone stove is a little fragile because I accidentally stepped on it and crunched it. That was my fault thought, I should have been more careful. I wonder how the Evernew set compares to the Caldera Cone in the wind. It seems like it is always windy where I go.

  • Have you ever considered putting the Evernew stove (just the burner not the whole thing, lol) into the Caldera Cone as the Evernew burner has more fuel capacity than the burner that comes with the Caldera Cone? I personally would love to see that test!

  • @LordJeep I've not tried putting hte Evernew stove in teh Caldera. The Caldera stove is designs specifically for the cone -It gets very hot in the cone, I think to hot for the Evernew - the fuel my explode - not sure but not going to try it. The thing is, its not really needed the stove with the Caldera holds plenty of fuel if used in the cone.

  • @RLMorris42 Hmm...Explosions might be bad, lol. I believe a longer burn time might be beneficial in some situations. Might have to contact TrailDesigns about that. Well, if you ever get brave enough to try, I'd love to see the results, lol. Keep up the good work and thanks for the response!

  • Thanks for doing the comparison. 15-17 Ml's is usually enough to boil 2 cups of water in the Caldera system. If you were to run the same test in a windy environment you would see a larger difference in performance. The DX really need a windscreen fir use in the real world. You can get an insert for the SP600 cone to make wood burning more efficient/user friendly. It's called the Inferno.

  • Great thank you what if yo put the cone around the evernew

  • nice review. caldera has set the standard.

but doesnt the evernew have 2 sets of jets, giving you the option to burn it more efficiently if you place the pot directly onto the stove without using the stand? that way, the top jets are blocked by the pot, and only the lower jets are working.

perhaps you can do a comparison when you have time for that test.

Surely this should make it more efficient and probally a better comparison to the trail designs? did the evernew stand come with the stove?

  • @kungfuchicken21 The evernew does have two sets of jets, the top set are not quite covered when you pot the pot directly on the stove. But you are right, I should test it this way (I will when I have time - I feel like I may have been doing to many stove tests lately).

The way I got the Evernew DX set - the stove came with it, Evernew sells it either way. If you you have any trouble finding it, email me. I know a saleman there.
