Well done Jessica! Your an inspiration to everyone against the ignorant and closed minded self righteous morons who have too much of a foothold in your country. To think that many of those that are in charge of education in your school are teaching the opposite, namely ignorance and superstition, beggars belief! Never loose your faith in science, reasoning and common sense Jessica. I'll be buying that t-shirt, Patrick, Ireland
@Beeza2996 Sorry, I saw that you're from Brazil after my initial reply to your comment. The 1st Amendment to the American Constitution (which is also the first of our Bill of Rights) is very clear on the subject of church-state separation: Our government may not promote one religion over another, or anti-religion, or even lack of religion. It must remain 100% neutral with respect to religious belief and promotion. So this particular case may SEEM trivial, but it's actually hugely consequential.
@Beeza2996 so, i'm not american, i looked for the first amendment on wikipedia and it says, among other things, that the amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, etc.
The problem is that the banner was in a public school? I'm not hating or anything, just curious.
Nowhere in the Constitution does it specify anything about school banners, Dummy.
"Don't bother mentioning "Seperation of Church and State" because our money still says "In God We Trust," so that argument will backfire in your face."
LOL XD So...During the era of legalised slavery of blacks, one could just use your "logic" to defend it...Don't bother mentioning life liberta and the pursuit of happiness because we're still enslaving black people.
@JimboVids Doesn't matter, the courts upheld the constitution and the constitution was on her side..so you can cry and insult her all you want waaa waaa.
@JimboVids Yes, there is actually. Read every section related to religion. Which is why the JUDGE upheld the CONSTITUTION and she WON. The irony here is of course, you are crying about it...when the prayer in the school mentioned not being sore losers and having the strength to take defeat..and yet here you and other theists are crying and throwing petty insults around. Oh the irony.
The true whiners, crybabies, and butt-hurt losers are the ones involved in the lawsuit. "That evil banner hurted my wittle feelings"......fuckin'-waaaaa.
@JimboVids Bla bla cry cry, the judge sided with her, secularists won and the law was upheld, and now there is a judicial precedent for the entire nation. Get over it, instead of coming on a youtube video to insult a teenage girl and being irony incarnate. So since the secularists WON, the only "butt hurt *losers*" are you guys, they won after all, so by definition they are not losers. Now keep crying :)
No "law" was upheld, Dum Dum. There's no "banner law". With enough money the decision could be appealed. NOTHING is set in stone, otherwise, your money would not still say "In GOD we trust"....and we know how butt-hurt insane that makes you.
@JimboVids Well obviously you didn't read the decision and are just trolling on a youtube video of a teenage girl. Sorry but you used the term "butt-hurt losers" and by definition that would be you, since she WON not lost. So continue crying :)
@TheRationalDude the judge followed case law that was fabricated in the late 20th century and has been whittled away since the 90's. throughout the country u have different standards applied for similar situations depending on the judges. it's not clear as u would want us to believe. this girl is a drama queen.
@tullyconleth Nope, it is clear. Read the constitution (which doesn't mention god once) or the founding father's own writings. In fact all the "god" stuff wasn't even added to our money or pledge until recently (20th century) after the new evangelical movement..before then everyone was secularist. We are simply (slowly) returning back to the America before the 20th century when it comes to religion, and also atheists/agnostics are the fastest growing group in the nation.

@tullyconleth Remember when a conservative judge appointed by Bush ruled against intelligent design in schools despite himself believing in intelligent design? Yep that's simply following the constitution.
im glad she got all the religious fools all rilled up and angry lol its so obvious there angry with all the spiteful things they say about her...... she was right to complain about the prayer.... separation of church and state remember lol i live in England were church and state are ment to be basically entwined but it couldn't be a more secular country im 26 years old and ive never met a religious person except for priests and last time i saw 1 of them i was getting christened 26 years ago
@Hyperplaterine And Just look up snowflakes on google. No two are the same. They are created by the laws of nature, i think its far more plausible to believe the laws of nature were created by an intelligence rather than a mindless, unguided process. I find Christianity more plausibly as Judaism is about following Gods rules, Islam is about worshipping God but Christianity is about how you treat your fellow being, and it seems to me this make perfect sense as a criteria for entry into heaven.
@Hyperplaterine If all the community around the school are Christians then i think she should just put her head down and get on with it. I know you'll say "oh well its against the constitution" but i think its just intolerance and petty. She just wants her 15 minutes of fame.
@atheistrocker100 Being in the majority does not automatically mean being in the right. Christians have enjoyed unearned privilage in the west for too long. Schools should be places of education not indoctrination. As the saying goes: "If you don't pray in my school I won't think in your church.".
@Hyperplaterine to realise the incredible rationality of the universe, as he famously quoted "The most incomprehensible thing about the universe is that it is comprehensible". Also we now know - as of quite recently - there was a beginning to the universe. It was common thought among scientists that the universe was eternal, this meant there was no need for a creator, as there was no beginning. Now of course we do know there was a beginning which makes God very plausible indeed.
@ava0000 Yes i do think Christianity is more plausible than believing all of our existence and the universe is the result of some mindless unguided process. One thing that has made me realise how pathetic you all are, is how you all think you're geniuses after reading the God delusion. From my experience atheists are incredibly intolerant, selfish people. I know YouTube has a very large atheist community, so it comes as no surprise that the most viewed videos are always about computer games.
@atheistrocker100 Please show your reasons for believing a god exists. Then show your reasons for believing in the christian god rather than any of the others. If you can provide any evidence I will become a believer too and so will most of the atheist community. It is not that we (atheists) are more intelligent than theists. It is just that we use our brains for thinking, not daydreaming.
@Hyperplaterine There are many reasons. The fine tuning of the universe, is probably one of the most intriguing things. And the fact the universe is intelligibly rational seems to point towards an intelligible creator. That is, we can explain the universe and its laws of nature with mathematics. Einstein believed there was an intelligence behind the universe, he was clever enough
@Hyperplaterine Also Christianity is the only religion of the main 3 that doesn't say unbelievers will go to hell. There are many many reasons why i personally believe as i do. If you really want to see what the Christian argument is, you should read C.S Lewis. He's pretty much persuaded me. The historical evidence is also very compelling. You might be aware that many people claimed to be messiah in Jesus' time. How come no one took them seriously.but yet Jesus was taken very seriously
@Hyperplaterine Only if you give me an answer telling me why your beliefs are more plausible than mine.. Im well aware there might not be a God, and we may live in a multi-verse, which would explain the fine tuning of the physical constants etc. But i wan't to know why that would be more plausible than believing there was an intelligence behind the U's origins. Also i gave you reasons for believing, not *proof*, so don;t just refute my arguments, tell me why the alternatives are more plausible.
@atheistrocker100 It would be difficult to deal with this without refuting your arguments because almost everything you said was either factually inaccurate or logically flawed. It seems one sided for you to lay out your reasons and then say I cannot address them, I would be happy for you to critique my reasoning if I am allowed to present my case.
@tullyconleth And you need to get a life and stop trying to make vulnerable kids feel bad about themselves. She is not fat, she is just right. Obviously you have been looking at way to many photoshopped pictures of models. In case you don't know, even they aren't THAT skinny.
@tullyconleth No, but she did stand up for something she believes in, which means she has some balls. She had to deal with death threats, and angry raging Christians trying to silence her beliefs. She has more balls than you, all you do is say she's fat which takes absolutely no balls to do.
@tullyconleth lmao I hope your not a religious person because if you indeed are you sure like criticizing your god's creation :] btw I think shes pretty beautiful.
What a courageous young woman! If the ignorant, arrogant assholes in the school administration would have simply done the right thing -- and followed the law -- they could have saved the taxpayers a lot of legal fees.
@tullyconleth [the law is not that clear. these things have been treated differently all over the country.]
The law is pretty damn clear. Regardless of how this gets treated all over the country, it's still illegal even if no one complains. The only people trying to muddy the waters are the ones trying to violate the Constitution.
@xxxxPaladinxxxx You have it backwards. Whether you believe the case handled poorly or not, she is the reason they even went to court. She is the reason for the millions in dollars of fees.
@PotentialWhale No, I don't have it backwards. According to your logic, the plaintiff is always responsible for the expenses of a court case, regardless of who's really at fault. The school was violating the law, and Ms. Ahlquist exercised her right -- and her duty -- as a citizen to set things right. The school is entirely at fault here.
@xxxxPaladinxxxx Well it sounds like your mind is made up, as mine is. I think you have a good point though.
I think you should know though, you're the first person with your viewpoint who didn't lambast me and type profanities because I don't agree with you on this issue.
@PotentialWhale No problemo. It's this sort of thing that usually gets me riled up (as you can see from my initial comments), but I usually do make an effort to engage in reasonable debate, as it appears you also do.
@iceslash88 ha-ha yeah right. you better PRAY that doesn't happen, because what you don't understand is the consequences of that is way more severe than you can imagine.
@dmaccannell Plus she's self absorbed and not very bright. its like christopher hitchens spirit possessed a valley girl.who would ever hire this girl? its like asking for litigationand contentiousness.
Dumb cunt was in need of attention, apparently. Congratulations, you only caused more problems than you "solved". You'll eventually learn, those that always stir the pot end up getting bit on the ass in the end.
Dumb cunt was in need of attention, apparently. Congratulations, you only caused more problems than you "solved". You'll eventually learn, those that always stir the pot end up getting bit on the ass in the end.
@JimboVids agreed why would she get offended by something that's no different than santa clause in the mind of an atheist? do you think she would of gotten all butt hurt if a statue of the tooth fairy was infront of the school = no..but if it was jesus she would of gone through the same process as she did.
@ebos89 Well, I'm just saying...atheists don't get worked up over the religion itself, it's usually the people who are all like "YUR GOIN' TO HEEELLL IF YOU DON'T EXCEPT JEE-ZUS!" that we get worked up over. That and those who get the facts wrong...like saying humans came from monkeys.
@Purpledragon1766 Lolol.. sorry Its not my job to say who's going where...Do I think a Pedophile priest is going to heaven because he accepted and a Atheists who was good is not? hmm I doubt it that's why I believe only God can judge, But I still believe in Evolution...Evolution Being How and God the Reason ;Why'' sad to say alot of christians are the ones who are bible thumpers that point fingers and judge when they know it's a misrepresentation of our faith.
If GOD is a fictional character to her than why does she care? 40k from a Atheist group for school? I get the sep of church and state but it doesn't specify WHICH GOD either. If you want to do something for the constitution of this country do something that is actually BRAVE....Oh wait Atheists are incapable of that. Been hanging there since 63'. I want to hear from the 13 yr old who wrote it all those yrs ago when this country still had a shed of MORALITY. PUT THEFEAR OF GOD INHER CRANSTON.
@bp444701 very true, think about it.... If there was a statue of a ''spaghetti monster'' as atheists use alot in comparison to god.. Statue in front of the school would she care? but then again if it was a Statue of Jesus would she get offended yes. but in yet there's no difference between these ''mythical fairy tales'' but are so offended to waste 170k
@nukec wanna c her raped by satan as all the extreme right-wingers are saying. You obviously want her only for sex, not a real r-ship. Cause real love is not possible w/out a belief in god between two people. Why do Atheists get married? They can't feel the soul within?
i just wanna know why? the banners been there for decades and there is nothing offensive about it. She is another PC girl, who thinks she's smarter than the rest of her peers.
@MC1796 Prtovidence coll is a catholic school. She's not going there with her undeserved 40k she got for being a pretentious bitch. She should throw that to the city of Cranston for the 170k court fees.
@MC1796 We had a picture of Josip Broz Tito and I think the Russians had a picture of Stalin in classrooms for decades ... does that make it a good thing? Just a question to all of you who are using the argument "banners been there for decades and there is nothing offensive about it"
@SpaceBackSpace No, my argument is it was not attacking her way of life, and if the words our heavenly father and amen was taken out would it not of been offensive? The banner was not asking anyone to convert to a religion, it just outlined the morals of the school and set a more religious context from the 50's.
@TheSngcoach You can tell this country is going to hell when you and I are the only one's who don't agree with this here. Pussy liberal atheists need to get the fuck outta the red, white, and blue.
@bp444701 Go fuck yourself, you dumbass. I don't agree with you. Hell doesn't exist. I'm as liberal as can be, you moron, go suck off santorum, you asshat.
@TheSngcoach May be a christian and a conservative but I am not enough of a fanatic to agrre with Santorum pal, then again anyone but Obama! (and not b/c he is black. Don't even attempt to play that card.) Looking forward to a future with a godless socialistic way of life guy. Im not. Good night and GOD BLESS.
There should be some sort of vote to keep things fair. If the majority are atheists then so be it. If the majority are Christians, so be it. Same thing with gay marriage. If the majority is for it, so be it and vice versa.Whatever happened to democracy?
@L33thalLee Becuase democracy does not make something a fact for one. Two, it is illegal. Example: Just becuase you and your friends vote to make meth legal doesn't make it legal. See the example.
@MikeyTdrums Of course, how dare someone do something in the name of legal justice and fairness and get the attention of the media. How dare they do something right. You really should leave... just go.
Im christian. I dont hate her. I just wondered why she even cared. Its not like im throwing a fit every time I see an evolutionist theory in my science book. I respect your beliefs, please try to respect mine and we can stay on our seperate corners
@tia2012ish yea but what's in a SCIENCE book is taught and can't be avoided even with the eyes but a Banner can easily be avoided by looking the other way or not even caring
i love that young intelligent young lady. She'd read the whole 40 pages of the court decision. I bet she's knows a thing or 2 regarding the constitution: the separation of church and state.
Keep up the good work Jessica. You have lots of support here in the UK. We don't need to remind you not to waste your time rebutting the small fry. Bigoted, hateful 'trolls' and 'blog monsters' are in plentiful supply and will occupy all your time if you drop to their level. The heads of the religious establishments will use their unending supply of threatening pawn zealots to defeat you. Don't engage the small fry. Engage the leaders. You are good enough. Good luck.
Im not Jewish, or Islamic, but i can DAMN SURE tell you if that i lived in a community and was going to a school where the vast majority of the school and community were jewish or islamic, and there was a jewish/islamic prayer in a stone mount, I wouldnt say TWO fucking shits. Im not a liberal faggot who wants to ruin something for everyone else because im a sensitive little pussy who thinks the world revolves around me. Making someone pray or do something is different, but not this! PATHETIC!!!
Page after page of rednecks alluding to threats on a teenaged girl for defending THEIR RIGHTS. This is just another fantastic demonstration of the ignorance of those who'd cling to a book of lies over reality. So you took the blue pill, shut up about it and let the rest of us stay awake.
@LordSirpiko the willfully-ignorant fighting against the constitution wasted taxpayer money. Fighting for the constitutional rights of EVERYONE benefits EVERYONE. Fighting against them costs everyone.
@LordSirpiko and for me, and for everyone in the nation who ISN'T a fundamentalist Christian. You're the selfish one, wanting to allow one single faith to be represented by the government over all others... FOR YOU.
Well done Jessica! Your an inspiration to everyone against the ignorant and closed minded self righteous morons who have too much of a foothold in your country.

"they could have saved the taxpayers a lot of legal fees" .....SHE is the one that sued and brought the case to court, Dumbass.
JimboVids 1 week ago
@JimboVids She only sued because the school refused to remove the banner, moron. She was right. The school was wrong. And the taxpayers paid for it.
xxxxPaladinxxxx 1 week ago
@xxxxPaladinxxxx You have it backwards. Whether you believe the case handled poorly or not, she is the reason they even went to court. She is the reason for the millions in dollars of fees.
PotentialWhale 2 days ago
@PotentialWhale No, I don't have it backwards. According to your logic, the plaintiff is always responsible for the expenses of a court case, regardless of who's really at fault. The school was violating the law, and Ms. Ahlquist exercised her right -- and her duty -- as a citizen to set things right. The school is entirely at fault here.
xxxxPaladinxxxx 2 days ago
@xxxxPaladinxxxx Well it sounds like your mind is made up, as mine is. I think you have a good point though.
I think you should know though, you're the first person with your viewpoint who didn't lambast me and type profanities because I don't agree with you on this issue.
PotentialWhale 2 days ago
@PotentialWhale No problemo. It's this sort of thing that usually gets me riled up (as you can see from my initial comments), but I usually do make an effort to engage in reasonable debate, as it appears you also do.

@JimboVids agreed why would she get offended by something that's no different than santa clause in the mind of an atheist? do you think she would of gotten all butt hurt if a statue of the tooth fairy was infront of the school = no..but if it was jesus she would of gone through the same process as she did.

@Purpledragon1766 lol I guess that makes sense for people who have nothing better to do
ebos89 1 week ago
@ebos89 Well, I'm just saying...atheists don't get worked up over the religion itself, it's usually the people who are all like "YUR GOIN' TO HEEELLL IF YOU DON'T EXCEPT JEE-ZUS!" that we get worked up over. That and those who get the facts wrong...like saying humans came from monkeys.
Purpledragon1766 1 week ago

SpaceBackSpace 1 week ago
@SpaceBackSpace No, my argument is it was not attacking her way of life, and if the words our heavenly father and amen was taken out would it not of been offensive? The banner was not asking anyone to convert to a religion, it just outlined the morals of the school and set a more religious context from the 50's.

Good luck.
