Adding to ripping off The Beatles' bass line, rhythm guitar, lead break and guitars from 'Taxman' and the whole 'Revolver' period, it is interesting to observe that Weller and Co. have also appropriated the look of the 1966 Fabs. No imagination.
@drutgat2 Except he hasn't. Weller's look was always borne out of mod. The Beatles were a different bag altogether. Of course this tune is a rip-off/homage to Taxman, but to base a criticism of his entire work on it is a mistake. After all, the Beatles, the Stones et al completely 'ripped off' the rhythm and blues and early soul output of America.
Thank fuck that Weller is still around as, being born a mere 17 years ere this day, if he wasn't it would leave the small list of artists worth listening to today with a major hole in it.
Why isn't he playing any of his new stuff? He got the godlike genius award right? Don't get me wrong I love The Jam hits so much but he needs to play more of his new stuff at gigs like this or he'll never break away from the jam nostalgia and become his own act. Tbh I think he needs to reform the jam soon, it really is time that people like me got the chance to see them, The Jam are my favorite band, unfortunately i was born in '92 which was a while after they split... for fuck sakes!
@piramaniak lol! you've just said 2 complete opposites, he should play more of his own stuff and break away from jam nostalgia and then that he should reform the jam! i agree he should reform the jam myself, cause i think his own stuff is pretty shit lol.
@GuitarBoyA7X Yeah i mean in terms of his own act he should probably make sure he plays more of his own stuff on shows like this, but he never plays a Jam song that he feels isn't still relevant to him now. But looking at the bigger picture I think we'd all like to see a Jam revival not that its very likely :L
Yeah 93 sorry wrong key I wrote that comment pretty late at night =]
@garyjohnwilson68 That's as may be, but Weller's had a longer go of it being one than I have, darling.
He breaks up one of the best (if not the best) bands to come out of the mother country at the height of their powers, and goes off to form STYLE COUNCIL?!!? Fucking right I called him a cock. Sad that it took the passing of John Weller and Pat Foxton for him to get his head out of his arse and reconcile with Bruce.
This was THE song that set me off on a 30 year journey of musical discovery. This was THE song that set me off on a path as a lifelong weller fan & inspired me to learn how to play an instrument and ultimately write songs. I fucking love you Mr Weller!
As a 30 years long Jam fan, I reckon it's a pity he's now against all he said about the reasons given to disband the Jam. Didn't want to be like the Stones, singing Satisfaction at 50...He's singing Jam anthems at 52. I find more honest for him to reform the Jam, be it for charity at least. That's'd make many many people happy; me at least.

Still great after all these years. Lovely, soulful rock and roll - a la Small Faces, Beatles, Kinks, Who etc. I don't think he's a copycat, he just holds a torch for some of the best music ever made
@ybmgn - Not me, that's for sure....but some folks out there criticize him 'cause they can hear Kinks or Small Faces, etc influences. Nothing wrong with THAT! I love him to bits!
