Is it wrong that I like this pretentious intro more than any of the Delta Force intros? I know it was a greatly inferior race to the 1988-1995 Indy 500s, sure. I think I may like this drawn-out ESPN keyboard-driven theme song better than the Delta Force theme, which is also blasphemy...
@arenasnow The Speedworld theme in its various incarnations is a classic (of course ESPN has abandoned it!), and was used for decades for every form of motorsports... the Delta Force theme was for one race per year (plus the first BY400, I guess). They're both great, in different ways...
How much of what followed would have been different without that crash? Not much, probably. But isn't it interesting to wonder? It certainly didn't help the reputation of this race...
Tony George is a F*cking idiot, who is ruining American Open Wheen Racing. He is the worst thing that has ever happened to AOWR. Just like Bernie Ecclestone in F1
Hey mac, gotta disagree with you here man. While ChampCar may have been sold out by fools, the organization that was CART was almost bound to fail. While the IRL's current leadership is incredibly questionable the reason it succeeded was 1) it had the benefit of the Indy 500 2) a leader 3) bags of money. CART on the other hand had NONE of that. While the rule book, and schedule was better that on its own means very little. National Championship racing is in limbo until the IRL fails in 2012.
The race makes the drivers. The drivers don't make the race. That's why the Indy 500 kept the IRL alive and CART/CCWS eventually died.

Poor Bob Varsha. Putting effort into an intro for a race, no one really cared about.

Mario: Moke , why aren't you at the Indy 500? You're suppose to break the curse.
Michael: Don't worry, Dad. My son is gonna doit when he gets older.

They all came back to INDY.....no one person or race is bigger than the Indianapolis 500.

@cuts68
Times have changed and since the mid '90s the Indy 500 has gone down. As it stands it isn't even close to le Mans.

There's 2 Michigan races and I can actually remember that I thought it was this race, but does anybody have that race?

Ah yes, everyone sides on the side of CART, but in the end, Tony reigns supreme.
