I am SO hungry now! (It's after midnight here, and I live in AZ. Fresh seafood is VERY scarce in these parts! *Weeping wildly*. And, kicking myself for leaving WA where you can ALWAYS find fresh seafood!)
Well the secret is out. My favorite place to eat has hit the big time. The only thing better than the food at "The Maine" are the people. We live 85 miles away but anytime we are going to Maine we are stopping here. Awesome job Myles, Dick and crew!!!!
I was on a road trip and went to the Maine Diner with my family. I had lobster pie and frankly was disappointed. It was small, unremarkable, and overpriced. Ditto for the fare of my family. To boot, the service was wanting. When I paid the TV chef owner was at the cashier and asked me how it was. I said, “It wasn’t so hot.” He launches into a tirade that embarrassed and humiliated my family and me. He was awful. If he did not want to hear the opinion of his guests, then he shouldn’t ask.
Maybe it wasn't what you said but how you said it. If you're a prima donna going in, it wouldn't matter what they did. We vacation in Ogunquit-Bar Harbor area every year, and go to Maine Diner 10-15 times each year. Never had a bad meal, and the only time the service was slow was when they were overwhelmed. Of course, you're right... and those people sitting outside for 75-90 minutes to get in are all wrong. Uh-huh.
I was polite and low-key. I wasn't a prima donna. If you could see me you would know that this is not the case. I am not flaming the owner. The events have been accurately described and not embellished. A restaurateur was being rude to his guests and I am reporting that on this forum. I am grateful that you didn’t have the same experience. However, you may have had a similar incident elsewhere and can understand our feeling of embarrassment.

@Saipanrose My parents went a few years ago and they weren't impressed either. They both thought that you didn't get a lot of food for the money you paid. Overpriced big time.
@Saipanrose "It was small..." ... if portion size is the first criteria, well then its no wonder we have the worlds' worst rate of obesity and diabetes. Might I suggest you try a feedlot such at Ponderorsa next time? Glutton.

I never implied an ordering of priorities. However Guy Fieri, the host of Triple D, frequently comments on portion size when reviewing the restaurants he visits. It is a legitimate factor to consider. Your comments here have been insulting, scornful, and sarcastic. The guy at the Maine Diner was merely rude. You have surpassed that. You also are insensitive to the world’s population inflicted by type II diabetes.

Being from the area, I can tell you that the Maine Diner is a huge tourist trap.
