I very much doubt the strike had anything to do with them not wearing their costumes. It's November and pretty cold outside. Nobody would CHOOSE to wear skirts in the November cold if they could help it.
Temperatures were unseasonably warm on Thanksgiving Day in New York City this year - Around 60 degrees. The night of the rehearsal was a different story; it was fairly chilly that evening. Besides, regardless of frosty temperatures, and using the Rockettes as an example, you'll never see them out there in sweat pants.
For Those who didn't see it they didn't wear these bulky coats. Most of the cast work "LB Musical T-Shirts with either black athletic pants (Men) or Black/White Cheerleader skirts (Delta Nu)With Elle wearing the t-shirt with a pink/white cheerleader skirt. The two Harvard cast members wore their full costume as far as I could tell.)
Was this even in the parade that they showed on TV? I watched the one on channel 4 and they showed NO musical numbers and recorded the one on channel 7. I fast forwarded through it but couldn't find anything. :( Too bad they couldn't use costumes or (many) props.
Nobody said they were not allowed to use their costumes. I don't think the strike had anything to do with them wearing what they did for the performance.
Actually they couldn't wear their costumes/use props b/c they would be crossing the picket line from the strike. Xanadu/Young Frank/Mary Poppins were not affected b/c they are not involved in the strike (they have a different/separate contract)
The strike was the reason for them not wearing the costumes. The costumes are stored in the theater..and since crossing the picket line is a big no-no..they could not retrieve their costumes inside of the theater. Therefore, they had to improvise. :)
actually... AEA stated that no actors are allowed to cross picket lines which means all of their props and costumes were locked in the theatre and not allowed to be used for this performance. The other three shows that performed have not been affected by the strike, hence their full costumes.
thanks fro adding this!! it's a great behind the scenes video!! would you happen to have a video of the actual performance in the parade? i woke up late and missed them:( anyway, thanks again^__^!!

I take back everything I said after watching the actual live performance. The banner they used wasn't the real banner.
