  • I am moved by your devotion. Impressive job. I'd like to hear you playing without clapton wailing in the background though. I think you wouldn't be as worried to hit all the same notes etc. Of course most of us don't have a band ready to produce a little video. Then there would be take after take lol...

    Again very impressive.

  • Need that Overdrive or you sound like Les Paul doing Freddy King

  • It´s not fair to use the names of Clapton, Mayall & Bluebreakers! That´s another clumsy cover!

  • Great playing, it's helping me learn the song actually!

  • hunter burst

  • Great playing, think you gotta tune up a bit

  • ur not in tune with the recording it sounds bad

  • to really play the blues you got to put the guitar on the other leg=)

    Great cover

  • Is that a Les paul traditional pro?

  • real nice work.......

  • NICE, u kinda look like eric too

  • Great playing and beautiful Les Paul :-)

  • Wow..!!

    sounds like EC :)

  • cool!

  • Great playing from yer man but you dont look much like Eric to me ; i feel that in later years he came to resemble Gail Tilsley from Coronation Street, if she had a little beard and glasses as well

  • That is one beautiful Les Paul. How much did it cost you?

  • realy beautiful guitar

  • right on man, but seeing as how you're clearly clapton's doppelganger you should be delivering this song with plenty of creamy overdrive! and also other than the tone my only other advice is at the 46 second mark you should either slide or hammer on that note from the first fret, other than that it was absolutely fantastic to listen to!

  • @electricflag Thanks for the comment.

You are probably right, there should be a couple of 1-fret slides in that segment starting at 0:46.

I have gotten a couple of boxes since that video (which was directly into the Fender amp), so next time I should be able to get much closer to the original tone and also implement the constructive advices I have gotten.

  • Nice Job. Hey check out this kid doing Clapton and Mayall's Little Girl. Going to be hot when he's 15. Search Evan Lalanne Clapton

    M

  • AWESOME!!!

  • you even have the neck p/up cover off like Clappo!

  • Nice job!!! And beautiful guitar!!!!

  • Gooooood! Sharp tone too!

  • your very talented. also, i love your tone

  • Not that hard? I wish you lived on Long Island so you could teach me!

  • Nice man, real nice. Brings back the memories... I played that tune at the JazzCellar Bar in Waikiki for a battle of the players open mike thing on my '74 Les Paul Deluxe in '86 when I was an 18 year old marine stationed on Oahu in '86. Came in second to a dude that could play at 500 mph with huge hair in a spandex super hero outfit.

Ahhh the 80's, when the dudes were prettier than the ckicks !!!

I like your Les Paul, she has a great voice and a beautiful face...

  • beautiful

  • nice!!!!!

  • For the riff you go b c# e g....you should go b c# e G#

  • blues is cool

    :)

  • i wouldnt say he looks a lot like him but damn can he ever play it like him hahah

  • Good tone.

    Good 'feel'.

    A very nice rendition.

  • nice.however have you seen slashdaniels? the video responce? holy crap.....

  • You realize you look like EC right?

  • A number of people have posted that here, but nobody has said it live.

Anyway, he was my guitar hero in his Bluesbreakers and Cream days.

  • you kinda look like clapton aswell

  • try to play the first part in the 9th fret in the D string and you'll have the real tone of the song (clapton's version). Great play!

  • nice guitar!!

  • not bad check out slashdaniel and his take. has tobe the best on you tube?

  • If you wanted to sound more like clapton, then play the opening lick at the 9th fret, and he uses a very loud marshall to get his tone.

  • you can get that sound with a fender too. you need just enough gain. sounds like that amp is clean.

  • Not too bad, but remember it was Freddie King's song first.

  • WOOOOOOW

I really loved what you did on 2:26/27

you should upload a video explaining how to do it

    (i'm practicing the same song)

  • Thanks,

Ehhh, let me see what I did there.

Oh yeah, something like a quick 5-string up-stroke arpeggio.

It is actually easier to play that to spell :-)

Lets say that the high E-string at 15th fret is E15, then it is:

    E15- pull off to E12 B12 G12 D12 A14 A14

    or a simpler version:

    B12 G12 D12 A14 A14

    I hope that helps.

  • thanks, now I'm Practicing it

i saw your car, your guitars...

    you are my hero!!!

  • nice job...obviously not Eric but then who is...but nice job :-)

  • On the opening and main lick, you need to got to a G sharp on the top string, not a G.

  • That's dope! about 1:40 or so you got me hopping around in my chair. This is on my list of songs to learn. Better go practice. nice guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • Really Nice! :)

  • excellent playing!

nice guitar, but no comparison to the skill of the guitarist!!! lol

  • i can this song too... but good play :)

  • could use som fuzz! but pretty good! :D

  • The version I learned was very different. Is this a version Freddie King does?

  • what key is this song in

  • Its in E

  • Sounds great! But are you playing the official arrangement out of the tab book from the album or you own arrangemnet. I found some tab on the internet that put most of the song, especially the intro, around the 9th fret, is this wrong?

  • Thanks, but I am actually not so happy with the tone myself. Experimenting more with the settings I should be able to get a lot closer.

I learned it by ear, but agree the intro should have been played at 9th fret.

Having listened to others on YouTube apparently playing by tabs, I am quite sure the tabs are wrong in the little tension/release passage at 3:07 - 3:08.

  • Thanks that helps. :)

  • freddy king, the one who wrote this song, played it on the second fret, and also SRV. I think it sounds way better at second fret, more "open" sound . But the most important is that you can play the lead and the rythm guitar at the same time if you play at the second fret, like in the Freddie king and SRVs version.

  • is that a les paul faded ? nice guitar !

  • Hideaway is my favorite. i love Bluesbreakers and Eric. Also Mayall

  • I think your good to bad note ratio is better than you think. Sounds great to me. Nice job and thanks for sharing it.

  • You sure can play!

  • That sounds very similar to the Freddie King version.

    Which means: nice.

  • ur playing it wrong listen more

  • nice tone!

  • not a nice tone ... but nice playing dude !! find a great sound and you KICK ASS

  • fine

  • Hi Friend , Great sound.

    Bye

  • i like it,keep playing and making videos.

  • Tone is a bit dry, but your playing is great.

  • That chord at 1:23, Put your 3rd finger on the D string on the 12th fret for it to be correct.Try it.....sounds better right?

  • Sorry I forgot to add your little finger goes on the 12th fret on the top E string.

  • Ouch, I have been dissected, that hurts :)

Well, that particular mini-chord was the only thing I remembered from when I wore down the vinyl to copy EC's Hideaway. It is a disharmonious chord for sure and I am 98% sure that G11-B9-E12 is there, but after listening to the CD again with a guitar in hand you maybe right that D12 should be added as well.

  • Of COurse hes playin a Les paul ONly way 2 go :]

  • try to add a bit more spice to it dont be afraid to break the rules a bit

  • OK, but that was my rare 3 minutes and 15 seconds of conformity, LOL

  • nice take on this extremely hard to nail accurately tune

  • hey what les paul is that? lol just kidding, i know you dont want those, but thats awesome playing, and i know which guitar that is, no need for a reply, lol.

  • Good job on this tune. I remember trying to learn it note for note from vinyl when I was about fourteen years old. The record got so scratched from moving the needle that I had to go buy another album to continue learning. You have picked up a few more of the nuances than I ever did. I guess the second album got too scratched to learn the whole thing. *****

  • I learned it on vinyl too and eventually could almost hear the track on the opposite side. OK, that was an exaggeration, but you get the picture and thanks for the comment.

  • You are playing a G, but that note has to be a Gis, he`s a little to low

  • I enjoyed it, thanks, it's inspired me to go and learn it.....how much did you remember, or did you have to learn again from scratch?

  • Thanks for the comment. That gives me inspiration too.

After such a long period of not playing at all, it did take some time to re-lean the piece, especially getting the hands and fingers coordinated again, but along the way there were many "oh yeah, that's right" moments :)

  • Nice ripping. One of my favorite jams.

  • From how this song sounds you should try pride and joy by stevie ray it's a nice song.

  • damn nice guitar, looks like a damn 1959 LES PAUL!!!!! :) that flame top is nice! i know your little secret.

  • Thanks, it is nice.

So your comment would be "The Emperor's New Clothes" (by H.C. Andersen) in reverse.

I sure wish it was a 1959 LP, but please see the latter parts of my initial comments to the right.

  • WOW!

  • "Wow" is good, thanks

  • no problem

  • good work very good!

  • Thanks

  • Great!Rhythm Balance

    Good!Rhythm feeling

    Guitar play years how many?

  • Thanks a lot. Having E.C. and the Bluesbreakers in the background is much more inspiring than synthetic music.

Playing about 12 years, then 25 years without touching a guitar and then started all over again a year ago ... very frustrating to only have the memories left, but I am "getting there" :)

  • nice guitar, nice song and nice playing. how do you like the fender amps, i have a crate and was thinking about getting a fender.

  • Thanks.

I like my little Fender amp, but being "solid state" it does clip hard when turning the input gain up, so distortion is not its strong point. However the right distortion boxes and setting can compensate for that very well.

I recently tried a newly released "Vibro-Champ XD" which has tube inputs and a lot of sound selections ... worth checking out and if 5W is not enough then "Super-Champ XD" id 5 dB louder.

  • Nobody has in person said I look like Clapton though, but maybe looks and guitar playing ability is genetically linked, hmm, I like that :)

  • Grow some facial hair Like Clapton and you have the look. anyway you could post a tab of the song?

  • Thanks and sorry, I just cannot set time aside to write tabs, but just do a Google search. There are many tab and Guitar-Pro references. It really is not that difficult to learn by ear.

  • no its just the facial expression that look like clapton

  • Yeah, I thought the same thing. I'll kiss your ass if this guy don't look like Clapton, right?

  • why is there 3 stars in this vid? This rule

  • Hey, thanks a lot, your complaint worked.

I grew one more star :)

  • mniodzio.....

  • you looks like clapton

    it's amazing

  • BRAVO PAPY LES JEUNES EN REVENT

  • nice guitar.

  • Very cool 60's Eric groove!

  • any form of blues rocks!!!!!!!!!!! hope you agree

  • In my opinion that would be taking it too far.

Actually I find most blues boring and too predictable, but some is OK to occasionally listen to and play. It can certainly be a good way to start playing guitar and also provides a good base to practice some of your improvisation skills.

  • Couldn't agree more. I used to love listening to SVR, but then your ears start to predict what the next notes are going to be! I find myself listening more and more to Jazz music because of exactly the reason you give. Scott Henderson is good; manages to bridge the gap from blue to jazz. Nice playing btw, love that clear sound :D

  • awsome man

    where did u lern it?

    adam

  • Thanks for the compliment.

Where/how I learned it? Listening and trying, but just read my initial comment to the right of the video.

  • hey man really well played in my opinion.

sorry 'bout asking but you dont have to spend many time aking so: how much did your Les Paul cost?? please answer.

    again very well done!!

  • Thanks for your comment.

As for my guitar, please see my initial comment to the right of the video.

  • awesome grat guitar good work man !"·

  • Thanks for that.

  • Bravo! Thanks for that. I was searching YouTube for a demo of a Fender Champion 110 and did not expect to be genuinely entertained. My friend is looking to buy a 110 this afternoon for $45 and I wanted him to be as educated as possible about the amp. I am sending this link to him now. Dave

  • Thank you, happy to entertain.

I am sure your friend will be happy with the amp. $45 is certainly a good price.

  • Great job! I'm a big Clapton fan. In fact, I listened to this album all the way in to work this morning (1 hour commute). I've got to learn this and Little Girl. Love that Gibson by the way. What year is it? Also, just curious, do you own a Jalpa? Really interesting car.

  • That album was the very reason for the purchase of my Les Paul. Prettiest guitar in the world (IMHO), very easy to play, forever sustain and with the right equipment sounds very good.

How about learning "Steppin' out"? I am almost there by default.

Yes, I have a Jalpa (and an Espada), very nice cars.

  • haha~so cute and nice play!!keep going!!^^

  • Ha ha, you are funny Mr. Bond. I'll take any compliment I can get, cuteness included :)

  • good for you, I am much younger than you, but I've been listening to Clapton for 18 years of my entire life and this is a musical treat. You are a very tasteful player. I'm in love with Les Pauls but I'll respect your wishes!

  • Thank you so much for the compliments.

LOL, and I am in love with my particular Les Paul, which I bought long time ago from the first owner.

If you like Les Pauls maybe you have heard about lespaulforum dot com

  • yeah I checked it out recently,

some really amazing things on that site, like 10 piece necks LOL.

You know, playing a Les Paul that nice with similar apppearance to some sought after models will get people to ask questions no matter what! My real question is what do you think of the 90s/2000s les pauls. Are they worth the investment or should I go for Heritage? or should I look for old Les Pauls?

  • The truth is that I have played very few Les Pauls (especially since I am more than satisfied with what I have) and therefore cannot really answer your question.

From an engineering standpoint products/technology (and guitars) get better the later the fabrication date. This has to be modified with internal company (Gibson) conditions. If they are in financial trouble the good people go elsewhere and the products suffer. So some years can be good others bad.

  • Wow that was awesome! How many years have you been playing that?, killer tone on the axe.

  • Thanks (for the feedback on the tone as well).

My band at the time had Hideaway on the repertoire maybe 1967-70, I didn't touch a guitar between 1978 and 2004. Started on my electric guitars 8 months ago and started re-learning Hideaway 2 weeks before the video.

  • Great!! I love it..you got the licks!

    stow

  • Thanks.

Nice playing on your videos, btw.

  • Thanks a lot

True, sounds a little "thin" with no bends in the beginning. I later discovered that it should have been played at 9th fret, where bends are much easier (hurt less).

Otherwise there are a few (small) bends at 1:02, 2:34 and the one that hurts at 2:49 :)

    Thinner strings maybe.

  • A great moment.

    Congratulation.

  • Merci beaucoup

  • Very nice. Well done !!

  • Thanks for the comment.

  • wo~~nice play~

  • Thanks again "Mr. Bond" :-)

  • Great !

  • nice
