Hickstead and Lamaze were one of the top teams. They wouldn't become so great off drugs, and abuse. Those partnerships end quickly. Plus, they cannot keep it a secret, if he was drugged or abused word would have gotten out a lot sooner, which it obviously didn't. Just because a horse is good doesn't mean he is drugged. That is like saying "just cause your good at school means your on some drugs that help your brain". Don't be dumb.
well Mercedesmarinful seems to have a lot of rubbish to say on all the various posts re Hickstead, nothing better to do with their time probably!! Go get a life obnoxious idiot!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The owner of this incredible horse is an asshole. this is another sad example of how ambition and a beautiful sport like showjumping is transformed into a massive event where money and status is the only important thing, like happens in many other sports, saddly in this one horses take the worst part. Is obvious no matter how they try to excuse themselves that Hickstead was overworked and probbably drugged... Its a shame his owner didnt retired him on time.... shame on him
@mercedesmarinful Eric Lamaze cared and loved Hickstead more then anyone could possibly comprehend!Hickstead died from an aortic burst causing his heart to stop, this was not caused by being overworked or drugged. Get the facts straight before you start accusing his caretakers of anything. Hickstead was in the late prime of his life, he was perfectly healthy and could of rode for at least another year.
Really!!!!?! so you personaly saw Hickstead´s medical exams ? A show jumper climax age is at 11 years , then as any leaving creature in this world they start to get old , so you must start to lighten their work and stress.Hickstead had a magnificent career, in my opinion he had already deserved retirement a long time ago. but, its only me. i dont have so much ambition in my blood to expose my horses like that.....
@mercedesmarinful Many jumpers are just getting started at Gran Prix level at 11, you are way off saying he should have been retired long ago. 11 is NOT old for a horse.
Oh to be as self righteous as you! You purport to know a lot about horses and about how Hickstead was treated, but you give yourself away Shame on YOU!
@mercedesmarinful unless you are blind you should be able to see how much eric loved his horse. have you actually seen the clip when he died? look how upset eric was...its not about the money, or the horses age, its just the fact that bad things happen and people cant do anything about it. what are they supposed to do to save a horse thats heart just stopped beating? nothing. there was nothing anyone could do. he was ahealthy horse and he loved to jump. you can clearly see that. why stop him if
that is what he loved to do? he was a healthy horse and he did not die from jumping. he died of an accident. if you know anything about horses you would actually realize that just because a horse is amazing at something doesnt mean he was drugged or overworked. hickstead was a happy healthy horse who was great at what he loved to do. if you own horses who love to run and are great at it, would you keep them in their stall all day? no of course not, it would do more damage than good.
it would stop them from doing what they love and thats not fair, not to any horse. hickstead didnt die due to being overworked or drugs, he died of a tragic accident and if you cant get that through your head you are the real asshole for commenting on people's videos just to try to make people angry and try to prove your point that is obviously wrong. i would appreciate it if you would quit commenting on my video and let people who watch it love hickstead for what he was...a talented horse. RIP
@RabbitTips101 jajajaj take it easy, relax jajajaja i am not blind but maybe you are... of course bad things happend but you can try to avoid many accidents. And his heart didnt just stop beating.... Aortic Rupture happens beacause of a big effort that the heart just cant handle... In humans this happens in car accidents so imagine the kind of effort for a horse if we compare. I am not trying to offend anyone but lets stop being romantic .
You have no clue. Hickstead was not overworked nor drugged. He was the reigning number one jumper in the world. He received excellent care and his age is typical for show horses. Showjumpers don't make much money nor do they have celebrity status despite your delusions to the contrary. Drugs are illegal in Olympic sport and it isn't safe to ride a drugged horse in the first place so no one with half a brain would do it. Especially over jumps. Coronary Aneurysm was COD
@LeeAnne151 They should have reitred him not because he was old, because he was a champion and he had already won EVERYTHING a horse could win ok?!!!!!!!!!!! he decerved it!!!!!!!!!!! And yes believe it or not there is a lot of money involved in this sport as in every sport, and this is not wrong or right, is the way it is. And showjumpers climax age is at 11 ok? then they start to GET old like all of us, its normal..
@mercedesmarinful Actually,No They Don't Reach Their Climax At 11 You Dipshit,Im A Showjumper And I Ride Horses That Are As Old As 17,And They Still Win Everything! So Don't Say Something Until You Know Its Right.
@shrekandlottie4life do you know what is climax??? its when you are at the top in maturity , training , strenght.. what this means is that after 11 a horse starts to decrease gradually because its a natural process... blame mother nature not me. And this doesnt means you cant compete anymore but you have to gradually decrease work and stress.. thats all i am saying. If you cant understand this like many trainers its not my fault. Saludoooos!!!
@mercedesmarinful are u mental? eric had a rough life, he used to be a drug addict, and he transformed into a great person, he wasnt greedy, not did he force that horse to do anything! that horse loved to jump. and to retire him, u would kill him, because he loved his job! my friend has a pony, she's 27 and she beats all the young pony's in competitions. so i dont see wats wrong, a vet says it is good to keep animals going, it good for them!
@kreabis Ok my problem isnt with Lamaze and his rought life, but if you insist : He exceed one million in prize money a year, a third of these earnings came as a result of winning the CN International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows, so showjumping of course is about money, and its ok ! thats not the problem..... mmm and about drugs Lamze received a four year suspension after testing positive for cocaine in 1996. And again tested positive in Sydney games...
@mercedesmarinful i know that, but he didnt do it for the money, is what im saying, but u know money is nice, id like to have money myself, but hickstead is one of a kind. like big ben was. u dont get horses like that anymore, so to see eric's favorite horse to die in front of him is deaply heartbreaking. thats what im saying, i have had a similar event, my horse was big and clumbsy and he hurt himself, and of course my ded sent him to a slaughter house, he never told me that til 3 years later.
@kreabis And its not for bothering you but ponies are quite stronger than horses and its not the same to compete in events than in olympic games and high level contests .
@kreabis Drugs arent the problem cocaine is not that bad... i agree with you that hickstead loved jumping i cant deny that but i am sure he also loved other things like all horses do. He had an amaizing career as a showjumper why not prize him with a retirement, and i am not saying to stop riding him, only lowering the work , even competing but not at that levels... horses love jumping but they get stressed at high levels is normal!
@mercedesmarinful Have you look at the pictures of Hickstead there is no fear in his eyes he loved to jump, and if you know anything about showjumping you cannot make a horse jump if he doesn't want to. He died from a heart attack which can happen to anybody, it just happens.
@mercedesmarinful You fool, can you not see after every jump Eric is petting Hickstead? He is rewarding him for making it a clear jump. You can see Eric frankly loves his horse. If you cannot - Then you are clearly blind.
RIP Horsey or Mr. Hickstead... you've served us Human with amazing entertainment... Nature is amazing... Thank you and RIP!!! we promise that we will not abuse any Animals... From now on. you will be missed.
