I was wondering if you could help me im just getting started to warhammer 40k and i have chosen necrons but what do i need to buy to make them a legal army? im talking the bare minimuim thanks
@mcworker17 You would need a Necron HQ so Overlord model lets say. then you would need two troop choices either two warrior boxes or two immortal boxes or one of each and that will fill the bare minimum for a legal army.
@plasmasnake402 you need the codex to play them fully outside of blackreach. blackreach gives you rules to play with the units to learn a bit I believe. It comes with a nice and small version of the core rulebook with all the rules and none of the fluff in it.
I don't know anything about the armies, and I don't think I would ever be able to make a big army or anything. In fact, I'm not even completely sure I even would like to make an army to play, I just the models really. Right now I'm mostly fond of the Daemonhunters, the Witch hunters and the Chaos marines. With that said, out of the three armies I listed, what one would you recommend for a potential player, and what are their specialties?
ummm could u hlp me decide between orks and eldar since i really want to buy a proper army and i have painted a few space marines, eldar are like my fav race for their stealth and great movement around battlefields, but i also want some orks because they hve got loads of cool dudes they are easy to paint since they just put bits of metal anywhere and they are pretty strong when used properly.
@Zlofpgu fantasy also has a lot more (in terms of playstyle) to do with eliteness of your army. On one side of the scale, you have ogres, on the other you have skaven. It's worth having a look at the getting started articles on the GW website but they're not fantastic. If you're looking at a couple of specific armies I can give you a rough outline of what they are about if you want to PM me.
NOW, i am a bit stuck, ive looked at the orks and the tyranids, both are exceptional in every way, they are better than everything else because they just are, and im stuck. am i supposed to buy hordes of jene stealers that rip everything to shreds and then have lots of big people blast armies away with their mouths that shoot green stuff or whatever... or do i wanna have an army of orkz that can blast the crap out of everything and mow down troops with their huge gatling guns... help please?
@Sasha009000 Well I gather both armies and I think that if you are a starter get orks cause tyranids are kinda difficult to play/ But if you are experianced then you should take tyranids.
blood angels or necrons pls help. i already got 12 warriors , 3 scarabs , overlord , anilation barge but i dont like them anymore. i know it is better to keep doing necrons cuz i alredy got an strong army but i like blood angels i lot more so yeah pls help thnx. PLEAS>E help me i am verry new to warhammer 40k and i do like eldar and grey knights to can you please help me choose ?? what is the best army to pick.
I like eldar cuz of there titans and stuff . But grey knights are stronger i geus pls help. thnx anyways :)
@tiranitar999 Grey knights are stupid and dull like SoB. Eldar require fast and agile moves before swiping an enemy with their supreme technology, so it's light armour and heavy attack, or heavy armour and weak range.
@tiranitar999 If you like Eldar because of their titans, go for Grey Knights. You're very unlikely to get regular games using titans and they're very expensive. Spend at least a couple of months immersing yourself in the hobby. You'll spend a lot of time with whatever you choose so make sure you like it
@tiranitar999 i would go for grey knights as a first army and eldar as a 2nd army because if you want to play with titans, it is very unlikely that your opponent will let you because they are apocalypse pieces and they are very expensive.

@conscript900 Marines would be easier to learn but the IG are a cool army as well that you could learn on. It depends on what playstyle you like better.
the key for me is 1) look 2) ease of painting 3) fluff 4) play style im running into a tiny problem at the moment as i just started Fantasy Daemons, Slaanesh. Love the look and fluff, the models are a pain to build and paint. Luckily i only bought one box so its only $30. So i now have to decide if i want to expand them or switch to a different god.

is there an army that has quality units and is good at close combat. for example, i dont want a horde army like orks or tyrnids, becasue theyre very expensive to play and they have like no points value. also becasue i alredy have an ork army that im working on and i really dont want practically a lizardy looking ork army with a bit better shooting
@TheKornstalker Two words- Blood Angels. They're the kings of CC in the Marine world and can easily tear shit up with all CC, a variety of tanks, or both. As you can obviously tell, I play Blood Angels so I'm biased; but trust me of this- marines that rape CC, move 12 inches and can still run (AND assault I believe), have jump packs, AND they're troop choices? Blood Angels sound like your army if you want individual quality and kick ass units.
i am still very confused in which army i should play next. i have already collected 5,000 points of orks and now seek to either start another 40k army or a fantasy army. any help?
@Namelessman102 Depends on what you like. Possibly Chaos good Range/CC Units same with Normal Codex Space Marines. Like Swarm? Nids/IG might not be a bad choice for you. Blood Angels are popular becouse of the strong CC they have.
I've been thinking of starting this hobby for quite some time, I've bought some random models and see how I suit to the painting part and all, since it's big part of the game. But now that I'm sure that I'd enjoy the "hobby" part of this universe, I am in front of a decision of choosing a proper army. I'm middle of Tau, Different SM chapters and IG at the moment. I'm usually fond on the defensive gameplay, (Dwarves are my favourite race in nearly every fantasy universe.)>>>
@nitromies >>>So I'm rather fond of idea of the IG with all thease basilisks and other heavy artillery, with the lighter troops holding off. But I'm still not completely sure if that's the case with them, or do I have the wrong impression. So please, anyone who would know of the hobby, would you please tell me if the IG would possibly be a right choise for me..?
@nitromies The imperial Guard can do something like that. I would say them and the Tau can do a traditional classic "stereotypical" defensive strategy well. Space Marines can also bring good defensive firepower. However the majority of missions will require you to go out ant take objectives which any army can do but needs to be factored in to a defensive list.
@KeeperoftheFortress Thank you, I do understand that. Maybe I could put my requirement a bit shorter and simplier. Which faction posesses the hardest artillery? And I've been wondering if different IG(and other races) chapters posess different playstyle, like many of the SM chapters do(Lets take the mentioned Dark Angels and Space Wolves as example)..?
@nitromies There is no real difference in the IG codex as it is just one codex and you can take whatever youd like from it. While there are inherent playstyle differences between Cadian and Catachans and Mordians and all that there is nothing specific really in the IG codex itself that would limit anything. IG have probably the most artillery types of weapons.
Hi,i need to ask for help for my chaos space marines,i have 1 icon bearer with a bolt pistol,1 aspiring champion with a bolt pistol and a power fist,1 meltagun,1 plasma pistol with a chainsword,1 plasma gun,1 flamer,1 heavy boltgun and 3 boltguns. So i was thinking usually wargamers use boltguns to shoot but i have only 3 boltguns. So is there any tactic that can let my squad win?
I need an army I can play strategically, preferably moving fast. I like shooty, but I want to be able to stand in a CC fight as well. I also like machiney, kind of basic stuff. I've been looking at tau, but I'm not so keen on the lack of CC possibilities.
@programaster Well Blood Angels have vehicles with the fast rule. There space marines so they are good at shooting and assault. So I would suggest checking out that codex.
@programaster eldar deff. they can go either way. they have strong shooting units as well as cc units. if u want tanks they have a good choice of tanks and artillary. they are very fast because most units can be mounted on jetbikes. they look realy cool and u can go wild with color scheme. if u want to switch up ur playing style then u can just switch up some of ur troops. eldar all the way
I was in sixth grade and like you said as really exicted about the game, I thought Eldar was cool picked them, and got a Farseer, 20 some Dire Avengers, and 5 Rangers, painted them up, played the game thought it was fun but I hated the army so I sold them on ebay for about 100 US, and now my Grey Knights army is kick ass, and about 2000 points all painted. The morale of this story is Grey Knights are awesome.
you would want space marines but they are a bit boring and chaos space marines are better ( my army), but it realy depends on what you as a person like
Hey man I have been in the hobby for years now and I'm getting sick of power Armour I'm looking for a none power Armour force that can tack down space marines could you help me out please
@Thestuka1 theres loads and if your willing to spend lots of money for it then try non power armour grey knights (technically they dont count as space marines)
@Bldfrst Those three have different style of play. I would say what are you looking for in an army? Im guessing some form of shooting potential judging on the tzeentch love. If you can I would wait unitl the new Dark Eldar Codex comes out or until the stores get the preview copy in so you can sit down and look at what they are getting.
in terms of cost I've realised it's not that bad when you play it smart. there is no need to rush your army so (not sure what US and other country costs are, but normally a box normally is £20) if you were to put £5 a week away you could buy a unit each month, or if you don't have that you could put £2-3 a week away and get one every two months. plus people who rush their armies and buy loads at once normally quit after a couple months.
@SatoTM3 Yeah, really. :P. Plus, once you don't take it TOO far and talk about it 24/7, nobody will care or bother you about it! My friends know I play it and they haven't said anything about it other than "How is the painting going?". They know I'm not a nerd. Once you have another hobby like guitar or art or skateboarding, nobody will think anything of it!
Im starting a 40k army and im on a buget but im stuck between 4 armies ork bikers, eldar jetbike, space wolf , and chaos thousand sons also can you give me an army list?
@blackwolf9710 well if you want you can sent me a pm telling me why you like those armies and I can give you my input. I can try to come up with a list to get you started for the army you end up wanting to play.
@KeeperoftheFortress I want something with close range capeabilatyies im thinking blood angelsim thinking drednoughts terinators and assult squads, dark templer they seem interesting (not space wolfs they look weired) thousand sons they look cool and could you have an army of korne bezerkers
@blackwolf9710 Well im going to assume you also like the look and feel of the armies in question. If your looking for an army that can do close in shooting as well as assaulting well then i would say either Khorne beserker or Blood Angel army as they both have good range support options as well as assault potential. At this point it would depend on which one you like better in terms of look feel and so on.
some armies get boring after 3 yeers i played 4 chaos for like 3 yeers ill still play as chaos space marines but im gonna start a small daemon hunters army
in another vid i saw, they had a tip that if you cut out paper circles and label them for the model you want them to be. you can get a feel for the units with out spending any money for the model.
@guiterman34 That is a good way to try things out with a friend to see if you like the army. If you are looking into a second army you can just proxy it wit hyour current army also
if it's any sort of monetary issue, daemonhunters are immediately out of the question. although the grey knights assault really hard, like the orks, and dark angels and space marines...well, if you pick the 'dark angels', then you can proxy into space marines if you so feel like it.
I started my pure Grey Knight army a week ago. I love them. Had my first game the other day. Won without losing a man against my friends ultramarine army.
normally what u want is speed, power, flexibility and manuverability thoes 4 things will allow to hit hard hit fast with accuratcy and take a cuple of hits and still be gone b4 the enemy properly cums 4 u easy to paint while still lookin good eg marines or necs marines deep strikin quick n deadly and the necs able to phase out to the monolith to be redepolyed or sumthin like that ull have a powerful army if it can hit anytime anyplace gets the job done and be bak 4 tea and biscuits
i have a Dark Eldar army myself. I left the hobby 2 years ago and a couple of months ago i came back. I was shocked to find out they still aint updated them. its a serious issue, and really need to be played with an experienced player. It is the most rewarding army in my opinion though. And if u can win with DE, you can pretty much win with anyone (Y)
@kitefire12 I have a friend who plays Eldar and from what I've seen they are very good. For Dark Eldar you have to be VERY tactical other they'll die extremely quickly. Tau are also good. They are the best ranged army. But it's your choice when it comes down to it. Good luck.
Dude the range with Eldars are not that good. Iv seen the codex and most of all there ranges are 12-18, but not all though. The Eldars have bad ranged weapons but wih very good strength with no armour saves. Tau and IGs have long ranges weapons, but the IGs have not so good strength but it doesnt matter by there numbers. Anyways all the armys are good.
there kind of expensive so it depends on if you really need them for the role they fill in a multi part army. if you have the points id say go for it There second for survivability in the codex for troop choices as they always have a chance to save against the big guns like demolisher cannons (which eat through plague marines).
They forced it down my throat. I'm admiting it. It was what I saw and I liked it. I don't know why everyone's pissed at the smurfs because they're 40k's poster child. I chose them kuz what's better than geneticaly modified super humans kicking ass in space. IN THE FUTUR. The futur makes everything better. Super-enything makes everything better. And I dont mind them being human....but ya. I agree. Smurfs were force fed to me. And I liked it.
Awesome video man. Really helps break it down for people, including myself with help picking an army. I actually chose Necrons, and I love em, but..They are pretty boring to look at, haha.
No way. They are more like Wood Elves for WHFB, if you come up against a good player, you're in for a hell of a ride. Their last update did barely anything, but it hardly means they can't be competitive.
nice video buddy, thanks

Tyranids: are a swarm army great in close combat and can be ok at shooting if you use the right models
Orks: are kinda like the tyranids except are a bit more well rounded and have better saves they are relatively good in close combat and in firing
Space Marines: are really good at firing and have great armor saves although u can't get a lit of them on the board
I play tyranids and I really like the playing style but if you are a beginner I recommend orks
Pm me if any1 wants anymore army i

@theitalianscotdan i do like them because they are great at shooting. they would probably be my 2nd army choice after space marines.

So is there any tactic that can let my squad win?
figureshobby2010 8 months ago
Are Blood Angels a good shooting army? I want somone whos a good shooter, but can also do CC. As of now I'm between BA and SM
ahystericallaughter 9 months ago
@ahystericallaughter They are able to do well with shooting as long as you take the shootier squads in the BA codex. But yes they can shoot well.
KeeperoftheFortress 9 months ago
@ahystericallaughter pick ultramariens they are good at shooting
nat4403 9 months ago
I can't decide :/
I need an army I can play strategically, preferably moving fast. I like shooty, but I want to be able to stand in a CC fight as well. I also like machiney, kind of basic stuff. I've been looking at tau, but I'm not so keen on the lack of CC possibilities.
Any ideas internet?
programaster 10 months ago
@programaster Well Blood Angels have vehicles with the fast rule. There space marines so they are good at shooting and assault. So I would suggest checking out that codex.
KeeperoftheFortress 10 months ago
@KeeperoftheFortress i use them as my first army and its perfect
hahamanguy1 9 months ago
@programaster eldar deff. they can go either way. they have strong shooting units as well as cc units. if u want tanks they have a good choice of tanks and artillary. they are very fast because most units can be mounted on jetbikes. they look realy cool and u can go wild with color scheme. if u want to switch up ur playing style then u can just switch up some of ur troops. eldar all the way
jared1067 10 months ago
@programaster eldar are a good choice
jared1067 10 months ago
@programaster easy. eldar.

Im trying to choose between dark eldar and chaos daemon or marines both would be tzeentch dedicated which one do you recommend
Bldfrst 1 year ago
@Bldfrst Those three have different style of play. I would say what are you looking for in an army? Im guessing some form of shooting potential judging on the tzeentch love. If you can I would wait unitl the new Dark Eldar Codex comes out or until the stores get the preview copy in so you can sit down and look at what they are getting.
KeeperoftheFortress 1 year ago
in terms of cost I've realised it's not that bad when you play it smart. there is no need to rush your army so (not sure what US and other country costs are, but normally a box normally is £20) if you were to put £5 a week away you could buy a unit each month, or if you don't have that you could put £2-3 a week away and get one every two months. plus people who rush their armies and buy loads at once normally quit after a couple months.

id so love warhammer
but 3 things r holding me back
1 if ya do warhammer ..its like world of warcraft...Dictionairy defenition of no life..
2 yah money. costs shitlods which id otherwise spend on cellphone, laptop, clothes clothes clothes (ya im a bi guy, go figure)
and 3 time. 12th grade european education = 1 hour spare time every 24 hours
it would take that 1 hour every day of the year for me to finish my first (badly painted attempt) at an army =/
otherwise: I LUV WARHAMMER =p tau. great vid
SatoTM2 1 year ago
@SatoTM2 Not the definition of no life, at all. Vin Diesel plays Dungeons & Dragons, which is even nerdier than this.
EnteruserIDhere1 1 year ago
@EnteruserIDhere1 waw rlly o.o? well alrite its alot less nerdy now =p
i swear, after university when i got free time, im doing warhammer
SatoTM3 1 year ago
@SatoTM3 Yeah, really. :P. Plus, once you don't take it TOO far and talk about it 24/7, nobody will care or bother you about it! My friends know I play it and they haven't said anything about it other than "How is the painting going?". They know I'm not a nerd. Once you have another hobby like guitar or art or skateboarding, nobody will think anything of it!

blackwolf9710 1 year ago
@blackwolf9710 well if you want you can sent me a pm telling me why you like those armies and I can give you my input. I can try to come up with a list to get you started for the army you end up wanting to play.

@KeeperoftheFortress I want something with close range capeabilatyies im thinking blood angelsim thinking drednoughts terinators and assult squads, dark templer they seem interesting (not space wolfs they look weired) thousand sons they look cool and could you have an army of korne bezerkers
blackwolf9710 1 year ago
@blackwolf9710 You can make a Khorne Beserker army.
KeeperoftheFortress 1 year ago
@KeeperoftheFortress but what should i go with?
blackwolf9710 1 year ago
@blackwolf9710 Well im going to assume you also like the look and feel of the armies in question. If your looking for an army that can do close in shooting as well as assaulting well then i would say either Khorne beserker or Blood Angel army as they both have good range support options as well as assault potential. At this point it would depend on which one you like better in terms of look feel and so on.
KeeperoftheFortress 1 year ago
@KeeperoftheFortress thanks for all your help (srry if im annoying you with all my questions)

in another vid i saw, they had a tip that if you cut out paper circles and label them for the model you want them to be. you can get a feel for the units with out spending any money for the model.
guiterman34 1 year ago
@guiterman34 That is a good way to try things out with a friend to see if you like the army. If you are looking into a second army you can just proxy it wit hyour current army also
KeeperoftheFortress 1 year ago
if it's any sort of monetary issue, daemonhunters are immediately out of the question. although the grey knights assault really hard, like the orks, and dark angels and space marines...well, if you pick the 'dark angels', then you can proxy into space marines if you so feel like it.

normally what u want is speed, power, flexibility and manuverability thoes 4 things will allow to hit hard hit fast with accuratcy and take a cuple of hits and still be gone b4 the enemy properly cums 4 u easy to paint while still lookin good eg marines or necs marines deep strikin quick n deadly and the necs able to phase out to the monolith to be redepolyed or sumthin like that ull have a powerful army if it can hit anytime anyplace gets the job done and be bak 4 tea and biscuits

Okay, i cannot decide between Tau, Eldar or Dark eldar, i really like range and being able to out flank the enemy. Im also new to the hobby.
kitefire12 2 years ago
well dark eldar are one of the tougher armies to start off with. Id say see which one you like the fluff most of.
KeeperoftheFortress 2 years ago
i have a Dark Eldar army myself.
TheWolfBearProject 2 years ago
@kitefire12 I have a friend who plays Eldar and from what I've seen they are very good. For Dark Eldar you have to be VERY tactical other they'll die extremely quickly. Tau are also good. They are the best ranged army. But it's your choice when it comes down to it. Good luck.
reeceyfezza 2 years ago
@kitefire12
Anyways all the armys are good.

hey i watched the thousand sons vid and i wanted to ask your opinion should i have a squad of thousand son in a chaos space marines army?
owningnewbs 2 years ago
there kind of expensive so it depends on if you really need them for the role they fill in a multi part army. if you have the points id say go for it There second for survivability in the codex for troop choices as they always have a chance to save against the big guns like demolisher cannons (which eat through plague marines).
KeeperoftheFortress 2 years ago
Why I chose space marine smurfs:
They forced it down my throat. I'm admiting it. It was what I saw and I liked it. I don't know why everyone's pissed at the smurfs because they're 40k's poster child. I chose them kuz what's better than geneticaly modified super humans kicking ass in space. IN THE FUTUR. The futur makes everything better. Super-enything makes everything better. And I dont mind them being human....but ya. I agree. Smurfs were force fed to me. And I liked it.

this is a very good video.
I am also going to add the roles attacking and guard.
you charge full pelt at the enemy or you stand back and use overhelming firepower.
Of course there are armies that charge forward with guns blasting.
The role of your army matters......buy only a codex first.
Or before you know it , you will be like me.
I have spent appox 3000 pounds on models.
( $5500)

heh heh, competitively, Tau are so terrible... but I love them!
ShasoDnarb 2 years ago
No way. They are more like Wood Elves for WHFB, if you come up against a good player, you're in for a hell of a ride. Their last update did barely anything, but it hardly means they can't be competitive.
