Raw food isn't just another form of extremism, of course there are people who are, but mostly they aren't, and who are you or some doctor who eat the same things their entire life, to tell people what is "nutritionally" correctly to eat. You really think that you or anyone in the world know exactly what is nutritionally correct for human to eat?? But eating raw has false logic?? Try to learn something before you spend your time and energy on something that you don't know.
Good video. Dr. Mercola says raw food is good but not 100% raw for the long term. He said if you choose this diet for long term, you will probably have health problems b/c of it.
Im mostly veg and I agree here. Lightly steaming raw greens aids in the digestion and releases enzymes in some foods. A well balanced diet is always wisest.
these studies don't mean anything mate. they are a few studies...are there multiple studies to support what you saying ?? saying "a" study says this doesn't mean anything at all.
another thing with losing weight [also think you mean losing fat NOT weight, weight can mean muscle, fluid etc so get the basics right] you have no idea it depends on there energy out as well as in exercise and training etc...what happens if someone trains differently to someone who has no idea ? they burn more fat!
My mother had a big desire to live, and we were unaware of the Raw food at that time. I was sick in those days and I was going to die first not her. I swear Raw food is not just about weight loss, it cured many other health problems in my body as my body was very toxic in the past. My words could never describe the past 12 years of experience. The only way you will know is when you add more fruits and vegetable to your every day diet. In no time your words will change I promise.
I thought I was changing the diet by eating Raw food, but actually the diet was changing me. It kept pulling me in and no matter how much I tried to mess up, my hands kept reaching for Raw Veggies and Fruits. It was year 2000 when I was on death bed and I am still alive, feeling healthier and happier. Please kindly don't misguide people as I am saying this with personal experience. Too many people are suffering with severe health conditions. Raw food is not just hope, but is definitely a cure!
I used to eat meat and processed food in the past and went through very terrible digestive disorders in the past. Doctors had given up on me and my system was totally messed up and I was ready to die. Today I am alive after so many years is because of Raw food. Every time I eat my Raw salads or fruits I thank god for creating it and saving my life. I tried to mess up many times by eating cooked food, but when and how I became Raw couldn't tell.
10:07 this study is in col finnland. i know the city of kuopio. bloodsausage is the favorite dish. Do the study in California or in the warm region. different approach different results. RAW FOODs isnt RAWFOOD rawfoodists are devided. 801010 ,fruitarian, highraw, allraw, instincto, rawpaleo, highfat, gourmet, urkost,
10:07 this slide shows a study of kuopia on raw veganism. How do you wanna measure raw veganism in a country of cooking like finnland. I have been in Kuopio myself and its not normal to be raw foodist. typical raw food countries are in the tropics. Finnland isnt a typical rawfood country. Also when they have lactofermented sauerkraut. its a different when doing a rawfood in minus 30celcius the record for kuopio were the summer before last summer. it was 38 celcius, in CaliUS all year sun shine
Raw Vegan is great for weight lose - I never experienced all the negative stomach issues myself. I feel most comfortable though on high raw with some farm cheese and eggs; brown rice and beans. I also cook some veggies like cauliflower, broccoli and squash. I do take vitamins daily. I think the best thing that ever happened for me on a raw diet is that I stopped eating processed junk food and it lost its addictive power. I appreciate this video to be aware of the risks.
this video makes good points, but it is focussed on the negatives of the diet. I am not a vegan, but i can say that the same risks that are associated with raw foods are associated with cook foods. for the exception of weight loss and by the way it is really easy to get your calories and gain weight on a raw food diet. Further more this diet is not a trend people have been eating this way sense the biggining of time. dont get caought up the boxes that all the dietary "ISM" puts you in
sorry your german study is incorrect, raw food is the easy food for teeth to process, food made in factories using chemical hardeners and fillers are the main reason children need to see dentist. Thousands upon thousands of years cavemen have been eating bananas and apples and they probably had undamged cavity filled holes for teeth, I mean they didnt have braces either tho. anyway raw food is pretty much where your entire body came from
@itsadeadmansparty "Thousands upon thousands of years cavemen have been eating bananas and apples and they probably had undamged cavity filled holes for teeth"
They also lived about 1/3 as long as we do now, and if I remember correctly, teeth-related issues were a major factor in their short lifespans.
You repeated twice that such a diet would be beneficial for an overweight person due to the volume of the food per amount of calories. If such a diet causes tooth erosion, bone loss and mineral defiencies why would that be beneficial for someone who is overweight? I see it as another potentially dangerous way to lose weight. Not a long term way to keep it off either if the diet is not even recommended long term.
@ericaj58 I took it to mean that this specific aspect of the diet could be beneficial to someone who was overweight - not that this would be the optimal route to go necessarily. As far as I know C0nc0rdance has about the same general view as myself when it comes to the optimal diet based on what we know so far: A mostly (cooked) vegetarian diet but supplemented with a little meat - thereof mostly fish. This is just from memory mind you - I don't claim to be 100% accurate ;)
TheStigma did a good job in his response, but I'd add the following.
Weight loss diets are usually dynamic, in that they start with the most restrictive conditions, then slowly relax the restrictions until a maintenance phase is entered. I think if someone wanted to eat a low calorie, high nutrient diet that was primarily raw fruits and vegetables, then phase to a diet that contained a more balanced blend of foods, that might work well.
@xmozzazx Win what? Just look around at society and tell me who is winning? Every disease under the sun exploding and obesity through the roof! Keep going down the same road and you will get the same results. Try eating your meat raw, if it's what you were really intended to eat. And see how far you get and how nutritional it is:)
@MGsven In the sections where C0nc0rdance showed nutritional info of cooked vs. raw foods, the difference was nowhere near 8x. As he pointed out, cooking also destroys some nutrients. Where are you getting this figure? If cooking were vital, people on strictly raw food diets wouldn't be alive. C0nc0rdance also didn't make the claim that all raw food diets are bad. Why are you?
The reason many people perceive health increase when switching to a raw food diet, like they will with many other fad diets, is an overall increase in healthy, beneficial foods and a decrease in refined, nutrient-deficient calories. For many, it's the first time they really paid any attention to their food choices. So of course they're going to see a health increase and likely weight loss, not because the food is raw, but simply because of better food choices.
I have 156 videos. I cover several dozen topics. If it makes you easier to dismiss what I have to say, the papers I cite in the description, then you should spell it "shill"... no "c".
@C0nc0rdance Thanks for the spelling B. I don't care if you have 4069 videos...guess what? There are 6079 diet books and everyone is fatter than ever. So where is the science now? What is a scientist? A historian, they are only discovering things now that have been happening for millions of years. Primitive is more accurate. No to mention they are up against the wall with Quantum Physics, nowhere is else to go with there intellectualism. You know why? This is a spiritual universe.
@masterplan8 His point in calling attention to his other videos was that he analyzes a lot of topics completely unrelated to diet. If he were a shill for some big company, it wouldn't make sense for him to cover all these varied topics. He would likely run a diet channel or something more likely to attract people researching that issue.
@cremice78 Got it, point taken...all I'm saying is with these videos and knowing how confused people are in general about diet, it is not doing people any good to send them down that old road of a system that is deadly and rife with disease. The system is only benefiting BIG BUISNESS and lining the pockets of 1% of people using there position to rob people blind.
@masterplan8 I also think he's more on your side than you realize. He encourages people to eat more of the foods you think are healthiest. He's just taking the position that completely eliminating all other foods may be *too* extreme. He also said he would like to see more research comparing vegan diets to raw vegan diets (and possibly to raw non-vegan diets). This suggests he's open to new information and hasn't made up his mind 100% on the issue.
@cremice78 Cool...I eat raw vegan, but I don't think every one should just eliminate all other foods. I think they should have a clean choice of all natural foods including real organic meats not jacked up with antibiotics, steroids, and saw dust. Food matters...you are what you eat. I have 20+ years of studying foods and i can go toe to toe with anyone on this matter. I am living proof of what can be. At 45 I'm more ripped than most 20 yr old's. I don't take supplements of any kind.
@cremice78 It always comes back to the same thing fruits and vegetables. Fruits being the highest vibrational food source on the planet, easiest to digest, then veg. You can't go wrong 5 years in and I can 36 pull ups! I'm not lacking anything.
@cremice78 Big Pharma alone causes over 120,000 deaths per year by the collateral side effects of their drugs. But everyone seems okay with that. But if Terrorists kill 3000 people we spend untold trillions of dollars and lives. Don't you find that odd??
@masterplan8 Big pharma's goal is to make money, not kill people. People can't buy drugs if they're dead. Terrorists intentionally kill people. I'm against most of the U.S.'s recent wars to varying degrees and don't agree with a lot of U.S. foreign policy, but equating terrorism with selling products to people who want them is absurd. People have a choice whether or not to take meds. They don't have a choice whether or not to be killed by a suicide bomber. That's a huge difference.
@cremice78 Okay lets get this straight...so you saying as long as it's under the guise of making money ti's okay to cause Autism and 120,000 deaths PER YEAR? When they know most of these drugs have deadly side effects and are not fit for consumption, but the sell them anyway. Your assumptions are hilarious. Are they terrorists or freedom fighters? Is holding a Nuke over every ones head Peaceful or terrorizing? Get it straight mate. People are easily programmed.
@masterplan8 I didn't say making money made anything ok. I was pointing out that big pharma doesn't want to kill people. They want people alive so they can buy more meds. Anyone whose goal is to kill civilians is a terrorist. Holding nukes is not the same as using them. Nukes are largely irrelevant to the current wars the U.S. is engaged in. Nukes may deter countries like North Korea or China, but they don't deter terrorists or most of the people who want to destroy the U.S..
@cremice78 But then why did you bring it up? There drugs can kill or cause major damage or both(120,000 per yr every yr). They know this through the beloved scientists so many hail. I think your concept on terrorists is skewed. When the American Colonies fought England for control, it was said that the Colonists were Terrorists. So terrorism is a matter of perspective between the oppressed and the oppressor. People don't just love to be terrorists. There is a reason behind it.
@cremice78 If you don't understand that people are easily programmed including yourself if you watch TV or TV programming. Hmm lets see I wonder why they call it programming? It works to the tune of billions a year. What are they making money for? Where are they going to expand their company to? What does it matter if they make trillions. What is that doing for people if they are walking around like drugged out ZOMBIES. When America stops trying to control the world suicide bombers
@masterplan8 I do watch some tv, but I watch very little (I'd estimate I watch less than an hour a week). Most of what I do watch falls into the category of educational programming. I don't watch sitcoms or other mindless crap. I get most of my news from written publications.
@masterplan8 Mentally ill people were around long before big pharma and before we started cooking our food. There have been studies linking unhealthy diets to increased levels of violence (particularly in prisons), and increased rates of other mental disorders. Nutrition alone doesn't account for all mental illness or religious extremism, however. Even animals that eat nothing but raw, uncooked diets sometimes exhibit signs of mental problems.
@cremice78 Your talking about a small percentage. Look I'm not going to go round and round with you on non sense. Today people are more MENTALLY ill than EVER. More people are on medication than in the history of the world EVER. Your diet and understanding your body and how it functions is huge. The gene pool is the weakest it has ever been in human beings EVER. 98% hate what they do? Don't you find that CRAZY?
@masterplan8 I think there are a number of factors contributing to increase in reported cases of mental illness. Part of it is that we're getting better at diagnosing mental illnesses (they aren't all just excuses to prescribe) and some people aren't as ashamed to seek help as they might've been in the past. Some of it is probably due to increased stress in the modern world and detachment from other people. Some of it is probably that we're exposed to a lot more toxins than we were in the past.
@cremice78 Did you know before 1960 there were no or very few labeled mental illnesses? Then the society of Psychologists was put together, but they had now diseases. So what did they do make the up and label them, so it was legal for drug companies to make a drug for each disease. There is a board of Psychologists that votes on new illnesses. Psychologists will tell you that prescribing drugs for any label disease is a best guess scenario, but the side effects are a killer.
@masterplan8 It's called further study, and better categorization. The reason there are more mental illnesses is because they've been identified now. This might take some time for your brain to register because of the tin foil hat you're wearing, but it's the actual explanation. The drugs prescribed to the mentally ill have had some detrimental effects in some cases. However, since MOST cases have NOT had the detrimental effects you WISH they had, your conspiracism fails.
@alphaenemy Is it a Conspiracy as to who benefits from the sale of DRUGS? Psychologists are Big Pharma State sanctioned drug dealers end of story The things that so called identified disease's(i.e. Restless Foot syndrome?) are MADE UP...I know that's hard to wrap your small mind around, because its fogged up with chemicals, but that's the facts. Here is the actual other FACT is that you don't know anything. So keep vomiting your intellectual drivel, while Rome burns.
@masterplan8 Actually, I have restless leg syndrome, and had it since before I'd even heard of it. It's annoying and keeps me up at night sometimes. I don't take drugs for it and never have nor will. I've mentioned it to doctors, but have never had a med pushed on me for it. Just because you don't think it's not real doesn't at ALL mean it isn't. However, judging by your tone and choice of words, I'm sure some of these meds would do your crazy ass some good. Paranoid fuck.
@alphaenemy Paranoid? Lol..Sweet tone my man. You might want to see if your body is overly acidic(which it is), or if it has a severe case of acidosis(which it does), due to all the chemicals you ingest on a day to day basis in the SAD Standard American diet. See if you treat the organism called the body improperly if will come back to haunt you. You need to eat more alkaline foods AKA Fruits and vegetables to remedy your situation. There I just saved you thousands in medical bills.
@masterplan8 Psychologists can't prescribe medications except for 2 states and those laws weren't passed until the past 10 years or so. Drug companies had little or nothing to do with it. Psychologists absent some additional training aren't taught to treat mental illnesses with medication. They're largely taught to treat mental illnesses with psycotherapy. Some medications are needed and help people. There are bad ones, but people with some illnesses can't function without medication.
@masterplan8 Congratulations on being so ripped, and being so smart. Question: For someone so successful and good looking, and intelligent, why are you bickering here on YouTube?
@AsSomedayItMayHappen Thanks I appreciate it even it is on the backside. I'm a curious cat. I like to see where people are at from time to time, and mix it up. It always amazes me to see how misinformed most are. How programmed most are with the propaganda lies of the media. I have worked in television and I know what they really do. On the other hand I see a lot of people waking up in far greater numbers than 15 years ago, which is good to see. Peace
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@C0nc0rdance So you can have a million papers it doesn't mean crap, because man cannot out do MOTHER NATURE ever! That has been proven time and time again to the ARROGANT little man. Everything the body loves is raw and natural. Man live for millions of years without cooking. Raw foods heals almost everything something that cannot be said for cooked foods period. Most scientists are extremely biased. The food system has been a disaster, except for the medical industry and big pharma
So you reject all modern science, then? You're typing this on a wooden keyboard to send signals powered by ants that go down bamboo tubes? Don't they get tired?
What do you think the average life expectancy was in the pre-scientific world?
@C0nc0rdance No technology has it's place but to distance humanity from the natural world has been nothing short of a complete disaster. 98% of people hate what the do. Untold number of human beings are taking medication just to function because they are so depressed. Intellectualism and chemistry by arrogant men have made the masses distant from nature out of touch with who they really are and where they live, you just have to look around to see all the sickness and disease
@C0nc0rdance Nobody can truly answer what happened in the past. Why? Because the arrogant fools weren't there. The arrogant fools still don't even know fully how the body functions and it's 2012. Getting back to tech. I think it is a good thing and brings people closer together as a whole, but we as a whole need to heed the warnings and flow with nature much more and not rub against nature or we will lose as a species as we are now. We have managed to pollute everything we touch.
@masterplan8 "Everything the body loves is raw and natural." ...so true. Please, let us know how an all natural cocktail of arsenic works out for you.
@dstachon2002 Sounds like you left your common sense at the door...oh I forgot this is Youtube the epicenter of brilliance. How long did it take you to come up with that one with your pea sized unit, you call a brain? I'm guessing a couple of days.
@masterplan8 ...my suggestion, if you actually have something useful to share you may want to adjust your posture. In all honesty, you come off like a bizarre troll or perhaps a schizophrenic. (if that's the case, I'm very sorry). Better yet, with your claimed background in television, you could produce a video as compelling (or more so) than this one. (however, I somehow doubt it ....but prove me wrong!) Go get 'em tiger!
@dstachon2002 I don't take any of this personal...I do find it amusing though. I get real world results and get asked what I do on a day to day basis. I doubt many on here can say the same outside of quoting and repeating scientific drivel. get an ORIGINAL thought.
@masterplan8 Yes and man has cooked his food for a long time. The logic that we ate raw food in the past and should eat raw food now begs the question. Should we only eat foods that were available to early man in Africa?
@EasyEs Man...really? I don't even have time you are so far behind the curve. Trying eating raw meats for a week and tell how you feel and get back to me if your not in the hospital.
@masterplan8 "So you can have a million papers it doesn't mean crap, because man cannot out do MOTHER NATURE ever! "
LOL. You are an idiot. The papers DESCRIBE nature. That is what science does. It describes nature. It used to be called natural philosophy. Go educate yourself...
@DrSpooglemon No shit really?...You rocket scientist....Scientists and intellectuals with there arrogance like yours, think they are above nature, and can out do nature. If they were all so smart, why would the go against nature, and pollute nature to the degree they have in America with all there isolated chemistry? ALL Science comes from NATURE and can never be put above nature idiot. Read and comprehend my friend that's what I have been writing thought this thread. Retard.
@DrSpooglemon But it not so you can shove it where the sun don't shine. See this is a two way street. You don't call people idiots and expect them to roll over for you Spoogie.
@DrSpooglemon Oh...now we all know why your here...your TROLLING for your next under age victim. Shouldn't you be on mysace asking those questions Spoogie? My answer is No, but I'm sure you can get some of the numerous meat eaters on here to...they will gladly take the protein where ever they can get it, especially if it your meat Spoogy, as long as the Gov't tells them it okay:). Spoogie aren't you violating your parole? The nearest sex offer list needs to be alerted.
@DrSpooglemon There is no science without nature. Scientists are historians just learning about things that have been for millions of years. They are Neanderthals compared to nature which is on the cutting edge always. Man will never catch up, even though fools like yourself think science is GOD, and that everything needs to be proved to be believed. That is a laughable way to live and very limiting way to be. This is a vibrational world, a spiritual world not an intellectual one.
@DrSpooglemon Who are you and where do you live? Do you know? Or do you think you are your name and occupation? Who or what intelligence runs you bodies one trillion cells everyday like clock work? Who or what regulates you breathing, because you sure don't? Let me know Rocket Boy?
@AsSomedayItMayHappen You don't know and that is clear. Who regulates your medulla oblongata? You have to much science in the brain and see the world powerfully and simple. See you have no idea who you are or where you live still. It must be tough being being you. When you awaken from your slumber...it could be your next life...I'm thinking...bummer for you. I thought I would just help you along.
@AsSomedayItMayHappen I'm serious as universal energy my friend, just because you can't see doesn't mean it's not all there. But a lot of people on here like to start calling people names, because that is where they are at in there life. If you want to play that game I will play along and if you can't handle it don't jump in the fire. This is a serious I want to believe I we are meat eaters thread, and that's cool. You will all pay a heavy price. Get that HEAVY? Lol!
@C0nc0rdance This system is BIG money for the crap food industry to the medicalscam industry, to the drug dealers(Big Pharma), to the BS ruin your HEALTH industry to the synthetic supplement industry, it's just one big joke and it's on the common human beings being duped. Your videos just help that propaganda machine right along. You must sell supplements or some other BS crap to even put these videos up is a disgrace to humanity. READ Dr. Gerson or Dr. Robert Morse(youtube channel)
"Talk with a health care professional first". That's your advice. Most people start on this path because they have been butchered or poisoned by health care professionals that treat patients by cutting or prescribing drugs to suppress symptoms. As far as your exaggerated claims about the body's reaction to the diet, it's like saying a person should drink coffee cause when they stop, they body exhibits headaches & malaise. It's called detox.
I'm sorry, but there's a lot of incorrect extrapolation here. Most people get diarrhea from cooked foods because bacteria proliferate on foods that not in their complete state. That's the function of bacteria-decomposition of life.Regarding "tooth decay", roughage does not breakdown enamel. It is the acid from bacteria feeding off sugars. Candy eaters are more likely than raw foodists to suffer decay. However, there is a problem when raw foodists substitute dried fruits for candy-same results.
@mrtruthforever Impact damage and tooth erosion as described, abrasiveness very well contribute to tooth decay. I doubt your claim that roughage doesn't break down enamel. It's a simple physical process. Enamel is nice, but it isn't diamond. From the animal kingdom and human remains of earlier societies, we have material evidence that whole grain and hard fiber does damage and grind down teeth over time. Some animals even regrow teeth that wear down from constant grinding and chipping.
Yeah some good points, but the your advice to visit the doctor is just silly, especially in US you will get set of 30 pills on off you go to health lol.
I can only say that I have been 100% raw for over 13 years. I am 62 years old and feel healthier than at any time in my life. I don't go to the Doctor, so I can't say that I have been checked or anything like that, but I feel great, my energy and clarity are high. Thanks, Ronnie
i respect the way youve done this video but i only hope you look at raw from a different perspective. A lot of people do it wrong then give up...like 95% and the only thing that keeps them in the community is ego.
HEAPS of fruit, a mix of greens cooked starchy veges every now and again maybe and rarely cooked meat.
its a 50/50 between mind and body. how you think about it can make a world of diffrence but how you do it can too
You make some good points, but they can all be resolved. Many vegetarians do not educate themselves enough and have problems. People tend to eat things they like not what is best. Dark greens supply protein. Sunflower sprouts made into juice will give all nutrition needed. Sprouted sunflower
seeds are packed with protein.Spinach is packed with calcium. B12 supplements are easy and cheep. Bloating?.. Transition slowly! Mostly go and eat small amounts of meat, fish. Take years to go raw it works!
Thank you so much for this video. Its refreshing to see someone use actual peer reviewed studies to inform people rather than emotional testimonials why raw veganism works. I was considering going raw vegan but I wanted to get some cold hard facts to sway me in that direction.
I would like to say that the uncomfortable effects such as bloating, gas, etc. when becoming raw are a form of detox. They usually aren't permanent and are just the body getting rid of built-up toxins in the body. My family experienced the same when they began eating less meat and more veggies and fruit.
However if they are prolonged and extreme (sharp pains, etc.) that IS a problem... fruitartarians seems to have more issues than raw fooders.
All your points are logical and I respect your words. I agree there are many raw fooders out there who are raw for the wrong reasons. This unfortunate.
Because what you say is true - we have been eating a small amount of meat, and cooked food for thousands of years. Thus I believe a mostly organic plant-based whole foods diet with a percent of raw foods is optimal for everyone. But the amount of raw food you eat depends on your body.
As a raw vegan myself, I clicked on this expecting to be frustrated with what you might say... but I'm actually in agreement with you. I eat raw food because it works the best for my body. I am vegan for health, environmental and moral reasons. I don't eat this way because of information based on bad science, airy-fairy ideals or faulty logic, and I am always realistic and skeptical in my thinking.
The peer review argument is very weak. Big Pharma, who fund most research cannot make money from natural dietary foods. So they will never publish anything which promotes natural preventative diet.
This means this area is starved of research funds, and fewer studies are conducted.
I don't say results are falsified, but the direction of research is driven by profit ahead of pure science.
As for raw food nutrients, it depends on where they are grown. Rich soil produces rich vegetables.
This is what I've called the "argument from conspiracy". Just because evidence doesn't exist doesn't necessarily mean that the reason is a vast conspiracy. You could just be wrong.
As it happens, most research is funded by the government (NIH, NSF, DOE and others), and those grants are administered by other scientists based on the merits of the research.
I might propose instead that foods are not medicine. Nutrition matters, but it's not a magic bullet for any disease.
Foods are medicine. Examples, African Americans have higher rates of Hypertension, Diabetes and Cancer than Africans. The same trends are found among Indians, Innuits and any other culture that has been tracked moving from a traditional to a western diet.
The human body when well fed is capable of staggering feats of healing. Fill the food stores with GMO and processed foods and drive up the cost of fresh produce with draconian "food safety" laws and nobody will realise the truth.
I think you are correct, that some of these people are going extreme, but raw food diet has a lot of good stuff, and it is now very hart to follow as long as you do it slowly. I lost 11 pounds in 10 days and feeling good. And I am li 85% raw food, I eat some cheese, fish and bread.
I've been on the raw food diet for 3 days now. I've been eating apples, bananas, tomatoes, mushrooms, yellow peppers, jalapeño peppers, walnuts & drinking water. No side effects as yet apart from loosing weight & feeling great! Will probably try to incorporate mackerel, tuna & muesli after 1 month just occasionally. ;)
its hard to stay on the raw food diet because many of the cooked foods are highly addictive especially the more processed and heated food. and most people will have feelings of discomfort not only from the changes in the digestive system but also from withdrawl effects of the addictive eating habits. for the most part someone who is looking into the raw food diet may have already been addicted and crippled in some form by cooked food and other food habits..
I like your type of thinking, and I've made similar conclusions regarding the nutrients missing from the raw food, BUT I must say that, while starting my raw food diet I feel great, no vomiting or anything. I feel like a kid again :P, tons of energy and sudden weight loss (I'm overweight, 22 pounds to go, after that I'll try to stabilise).
But you made an excellent point. It's bad to follow an encapsulated thoughtform, research and lead, not follow.
@Hotwatty Thanks for bringing that up. Dr. Price noted specifically that every culture that he studied used animal products in some form. He did not find any strict vegan, raw cultures; they just didn't exist. Every culture he studied that had avoided processed food had minimal to no cavities, and excellent health and bone structure. Many raw vegans have dental issues because of problems with the diet. Although it's great for fast weight loss as I'm doing now!
Thanks for sharing scientific based evidence regarding pros and cons of the raw food diet!
@C0nc0rdance I think the raw food group is trying very hard to evolve and make their diet work for more peers (some of them are into science as well ;) , so I think it would be nice to share updated information (if there is any).
Anyway, best raw food video I have seen and I am also very positive about beyondveg(dot)com. Facts not faith.
I did a bit of Google Trends research on terms like Ornish, Atkins, raw food, paleo diet, and I notice they all had a peak period, then a rapid decline in interest (periodic upswings on Jan 1!).
You say that people do well with artificial targets, but I don't know if that is true. I suspect the opposite. I suspect that "Eating X = healthy" or "X is bad" thinking is actually harming some people. Healthy is a lifestyle, not a formula, right?
The scientific literature is a bit sparse on the topic, and the majority of studies are by one group in Finland. A big part of the Finnish raw food vegan diet is fermented products, which might not represent your particular brand of raw foodism, but I think the content is still valid.
I think raw food veganism could be really good for the reasons you mention. Weight loss, low sodium, high antioxidant. I'm just not sure why we need an artificial target to eat right.
So does skin cancer, which kills about 7000 Americans/year. You can get adequate levels from diet without exposing yourself to excess risk from prolonged sun exposure.
The link between sun exposure and skin cancer such that it is does not support that argument. African Americans have a higher rate of skin cancer than Africans, but the levels of exposure are much higher in Africa. The Western diet predisposes people to higher risk from all cancers.
Of those 7000 how many had low levels of Vitamin D, or Nitrilosides, or Low intake of Vitamin C, or other health problems?
It's a fair point. Certainly American diet is a factor in cancer risk. I suspect that differential rates of skin cancer would be dependent on lots of factors, not the least of which would be longevity, diagnostic frequency, and genetics.
My point is that low vitamin D level is a dietary deficiency, and supplementing with long-term sun exposure is not a safe alternative. Agree?
I would not call low Vitamin D a dietary problem. When exposed to sunlight the human body can make 10-30 Thousand IU in less than an hour with no toxicity. To consume this much requires dangerous quantities of any vitamin D rich food.
It is clearly natural to get Vitamin D from sunlight.
Pills are unnatural and deliver the vitamin D in the absence of essential nutrients that it would be associated with in nature. Better than nothing, but third on my list.
Re the low sodium benefit, I'd like to point to the recent article in Scientific American about 'ending the war on salt.' Briefly there's no observable health benefit in cutting salt intake below the RDA and no harm done by exceeding it except in large amounts. There is in fact some evidence to show that a long term low sodium diet may actually increase the risk of stroke.
So yeah, that raw food benefit can be thrown aside.
Interesting point. However, the average American consumes 3-5000 mg of salt a day, and the RDI is 2300 mg, 1500 mg if you are over 51.
One Big Mac is 1400 mg of salt. Large fry is 330 mg more!
I would say that a diet rich in fruit and veg is good, raw or cooked. Avoid excessively salty, sweet or fatty foods when you can. This is pretty much what the medical establishment has been saying for the last 40 years.
An ice cream cone won't kill you, but one a day will : )
@C0nc0rdance no. it is 1400 mg of sodium. salt is sodium chloride. salt can not be salt without the chloride. In a study of almost 3,000 men that had high blood pressure, the men on a low-salt diet had a 430% increase in heart attacks when compared to the men who ate a high-salt diet. Health care makes big bucks by selling a quart of water with salt in it (Saline 4) for up to $350.00 installed, but won't tell the patients they do indeed need more water and salt in their diets.
@C0nc0rdance It has been over thirty years since we were first told to eat a low salt diet in order to avoid having high blood pressure. Why then, do more Americans have high blood pressure today than they did thirty years ago?
@FordPrefect23 You are correct. In a study of almost 3,000 men that had high blood pressure, the men on a low-salt diet had a 430% increase in heart attacks when compared to the men who ate a high-salt diet
I already have bad teeth because i was a dumb kid with dumb parents so i cant blame it on raw food I have just started my raw food diet a couple days ago and i do feel terrible i was transitioning for about a month and i was getting hangovers....I don't know how its gonna go but everyone on youtube I'm getting onto have good teeth and look and act really energetic. Oh and I am actually already b12 deficient. So thanks for telling me that.
Great video. I think you could have mentioned this idea of "detox". At the age of 19 I fell for the gimmicks used to sell this diet and tried it. After 6 months of horrible illness, I asked the raw food community what was happening. They claimed it was detox from all those years of terrible cooked food eating. They also told me that not having periods was natural - periods are the release of toxins. This was when I realised I'd been taken for a fool and thankfully started eating properly again.
so what he Say's is eat healthy and if you need to feel more healthy just listen to good music while eating sugar pills for an good old placebo effect.
by the way that also works for panic attacks and going bad and what not.
OH! and FYI - You detox (heavily) before going into raw foodism. If you don't you'll feel crappy. Idk if you've read about/are familiar with that. I have a detox week or so before going raw for any time over 4 days.
@Verseaurainbows Sorry - I don't keep track of any of that research. =/ I just go based on what my naturopathic physicians say. We live on natural healing/medicines/natural living as much as possible. I guess the equivalent of a native witch doctor. lol It's been working and keeping us well for generations. never cared to look it up.
I feel so awesome when I go on my mini raw-food diets (max 2 weeks at a time). I've been working to transition to eating no processed foods. I'm doing away with dairy, but I still eat fish =/. But I just can't go back to fried & processed foods. Thanks for the information =]
Forget about the studies, measurements, counting, analyzing... go raw and start listen to your body! Mother nature will take care about you and guarantee, will never let you down from the proper raw food diet.
Your raw food videos are a good balance of pros and cons which make them much more credible than many online. I think it's important to have a good idea of the risks you may be exposing yourself to as being raw. Every choice you make in life has risks so to deny that raw diets have some would be silly.
giveittomeraw etc, is a great website if you want to get shouted down, accused of trolling being a 'shill' etc. its amazing the number of people who will block you/delete comments if you ask for some evidence of extraordinary claims.
EATING JUST FRUITS WILL DO THIS TO YOU! ITS IS NOT CAUSED BY A RAW FOOD DIET! Tooth decay and all these problems are from not eating enough greens a great way to solve this is adding green smoothies to your daily diet several cups worth they taste great and give you lots of protein, Read Victoria Boutenkos book Green For Life. Most raw foodists until recently were eating mostly fruit, your body needs the protein and and all the other nutrition in the greens.
Everyone is different, so what works for one person, may not work for other. There are people living on a raw diet, feeling great, having awesome blood test results, and there are ones that couldn't stay on it because their health got worse.
For some people, the raw lifestyle was the only one that helped them with their serious health issues.
Yes, it is important to know what you're doing, but what I would encourage people to do is to TRY. It's not like it's going to kill you, right?
Fruits and veggies contain more antioxidants, especially in their whole, raw form. This is commonly known and can easily explain why many people believe this. I do agree with you that there should be more studies on it though.
Bacteria issue: Buy organic, all natural, and washed produce. Also re-wash your produce when you buy it. Grow your own garden, buy local, this issue isn't very major. Pesticides aren't healthy for you anyway, and washing nor cooking rids the absorbed pesticides in the food. (meat, fruit or veggie) The fermented foods with probiotics, the more you eat the better off as you stated. They can basically be considered true healthy energy drinks, or more preferably: Elixirs.
Cholesterol levels. Raw food does lower both levels true. However, this is why there are unsaturated fats in the world. Avacados, Durians, for some nuts and seeds, and a more processed fats Cold Pressed Olive oil. These all help lower LDL Cholesterol levels, while at the same time, increase HDL Cholesterol levels. Cooking fats, turns them into saturated fats which do just the opposite, Increase LDL and lower HDL. This can lead to heart and cardiovascular disease. Fatty meats do the same.
Many legumes are poisonous without cooking indeed. For one, ask yourself if you would be willing to eat legumes raw? Second, also remember nature has it's own population control: Spiders, Predators, Natural Disasters, and even poisonous foods: Mushrooms, Legumes, etc. If you want to eat legumes, soaking them for 24 hours can help rid it of it's poisonous attributes: Some being lectins and phytic acid.
Almenorrhea is usually due to being underweight. Did you research to see if these women were underweight? Refer to my other comment for the weight issue. Smoking can also cause this. Also, this could be just early menopause for women, which can be caused due to surgery, genetics, medications and Auto immune disorders. Was this looked into as well?

Raw food isn't just another form of extremism, of course there are people who are, but mostly they aren't, and who are you or some doctor who eat the same things their entire life, to tell people what is "nutritionally" correctly to eat. You really think that you or anyone in the world know exactly what is nutritionally correct for human to eat?? But eating raw has false logic?? Try to learn something before you spend your time and energy on something that you don't know.

Not a long term way to keep it off either if the diet is not even recommended long term.
ericaj58 1 month ago 2
@ericaj58 I took it to mean that this specific aspect of the diet could be beneficial to someone who was overweight - not that this would be the optimal route to go necessarily. As far as I know C0nc0rdance has about the same general view as myself when it comes to the optimal diet based on what we know so far: A mostly (cooked) vegetarian diet but supplemented with a little meat - thereof mostly fish. This is just from memory mind you - I don't claim to be 100% accurate ;)
TheStigma 1 month ago
@ericaj58
TheStigma did a good job in his response, but I'd add the following.
Weight loss diets are usually dynamic, in that they start with the most restrictive conditions, then slowly relax the restrictions until a maintenance phase is entered. I think if someone wanted to eat a low calorie, high nutrient diet that was primarily raw fruits and vegetables, then phase to a diet that contained a more balanced blend of foods, that might work well.

cooking is vital for us, we can get like 8 times more nutricion from foods after cooking it
MGsven 1 month ago

C0nc0rdance 1 month ago 14
@C0nc0rdance Thanks for the spelling B. I don't care if you have 4069 videos...guess what? There are 6079 diet books and everyone is fatter than ever. So where is the science now? What is a scientist? A historian, they are only discovering things now that have been happening for millions of years. Primitive is more accurate. No to mention they are up against the wall with Quantum Physics, nowhere is else to go with there intellectualism. You know why? This is a spiritual universe.
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 His point in calling attention to his other videos was that he analyzes a lot of topics completely unrelated to diet. If he were a shill for some big company, it wouldn't make sense for him to cover all these varied topics. He would likely run a diet channel or something more likely to attract people researching that issue.
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 Got it, point taken...all I'm saying is with these videos and knowing how confused people are in general about diet, it is not doing people any good to send them down that old road of a system that is deadly and rife with disease. The system is only benefiting BIG BUISNESS and lining the pockets of 1% of people using there position to rob people blind.
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 I also think he's more on your side than you realize. He encourages people to eat more of the foods you think are healthiest. He's just taking the position that completely eliminating all other foods may be *too* extreme. He also said he would like to see more research comparing vegan diets to raw vegan diets (and possibly to raw non-vegan diets). This suggests he's open to new information and hasn't made up his mind 100% on the issue.
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 Cool...I eat raw vegan, but I don't think every one should just eliminate all other foods. I think they should have a clean choice of all natural foods including real organic meats not jacked up with antibiotics, steroids, and saw dust. Food matters...you are what you eat. I have 20+ years of studying foods and i can go toe to toe with anyone on this matter. I am living proof of what can be. At 45 I'm more ripped than most 20 yr old's. @cremice78 Big Pharma alone causes over 120,000 deaths per year by the collateral side effects of their drugs. But everyone seems okay with that. But if Terrorists kill 3000 people we spend untold trillions of dollars and lives. Don't you find that odd??
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 Big pharma's goal is to make money, not kill people. People can't buy drugs if they're dead. Terrorists intentionally kill people. I'm against most of the U.S.'s recent wars to varying degrees and don't agree with a lot of U.S. foreign policy, but equating terrorism with selling products to people who want them is absurd. People have a choice whether or not to take meds. They don't have a choice whether or not to be killed by a suicide bomber. That's a huge difference.
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 Okay lets get this straight...so you saying as long as it's under the guise of making money ti's okay to cause Autism and 120,000 deaths PER YEAR? When they know most of these drugs have deadly side effects and are not fit for consumption, but the sell them anyway. Your assumptions are hilarious. Are they terrorists or freedom fighters? Is holding a Nuke over every ones head Peaceful or terrorizing? Get it straight mate. People are easily programmed.
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 I didn't say making money made anything ok. I was pointing out that big pharma doesn't want to kill people. They want people alive so they can buy more meds. Anyone whose goal is to kill civilians is a terrorist. Holding nukes is not the same as using them. Nukes are largely irrelevant to the current wars the U.S. is engaged in. Nukes may deter countries like North Korea or China, but they don't deter terrorists or most of the people who want to destroy the U.S..
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 But then why did you bring it up? There drugs can kill or cause major damage or both(120,000 per yr every yr). They know this through the beloved scientists so many hail. I think your concept on terrorists is skewed. When the American Colonies fought England for control, it was said that the Colonists were Terrorists. So terrorism is a matter of perspective between the oppressed and the oppressor. People don't just love to be terrorists. There is a reason behind it.
masterplan8 1 month ago
@cremice78 If you don't understand that people are easily programmed including yourself if you watch TV or TV programming. Hmm lets see I wonder why they call it programming? @masterplan8 Mentally ill people were around long before big pharma and before we started cooking our food. There have been studies linking unhealthy diets to increased levels of violence (particularly in prisons), and increased rates of other mental disorders. Nutrition alone doesn't account for all mental illness or religious extremism, however. Even animals that eat nothing but raw, uncooked diets sometimes exhibit signs of mental problems.
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 Your talking about a small percentage. Look I'm not going to go round and round with you on non sense. Today people are more MENTALLY ill than EVER. More people are on medication than in the history of the world EVER. Your diet and understanding your body and how it functions is huge. The gene pool is the weakest it has ever been in human beings EVER. 98% hate what they do? Don't you find that CRAZY?
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 I think there are a number of factors contributing to increase in reported cases of mental illness. Part of it is that we're getting better at diagnosing mental illnesses (they aren't all just excuses to prescribe) and some people aren't as ashamed to seek help as they might've been in the past. Some of it is probably due to increased stress in the modern world and detachment from other people. Some of it is probably that we're exposed to a lot more toxins than we were in the past.
cremice78 1 month ago
@cremice78 Did you know before 1960 there were no or very few labeled mental illnesses? Then the society of Psychologists was put together, but they had now diseases. So what did they do make the up and label them, so it was legal for drug companies to make a drug for each disease. There is a board of Psychologists that votes on new illnesses. Psychologists will tell you that prescribing drugs for any label disease is a best guess scenario, but the side effects are a killer.
masterplan8 1 month ago
@masterplan8 It's called further study, and better categorization. The reason there are more mental illnesses is because they've been identified now. This might take some time for your brain to register because of the tin foil hat you're wearing, but it's the actual explanation. The drugs prescribed to the mentally ill have had some detrimental effects in some cases. However, since MOST cases have NOT had the detrimental effects you WISH they had, your conspiracism fails.

It's called detox.
mrtruthforever 1 month ago
I'm sorry, but there's a lot of incorrect extrapolation here. Most people get diarrhea from cooked foods because bacteria proliferate on foods that not in their complete state. That's the function of bacteria-decomposition of life.Regarding "tooth decay", roughage does not breakdown enamel. It is the acid from bacteria feeding off sugars. Candy eaters are more likely than raw foodists to suffer decay. However, there is a problem when raw foodists substitute dried fruits for candy-same results.
mrtruthforever 1 month ago
@mrtruthforever Impact damage and tooth erosion as described, abrasiveness very well contribute to tooth decay. I doubt your claim that roughage doesn't break down enamel. It's a simple physical process. Enamel is nice, but it isn't diamond. From the animal kingdom and human remains of earlier societies, we have material evidence that whole grain and hard fiber does damage and grind down teeth over time. Some animals even regrow teeth that wear down from constant grinding and chipping.

HEAPS of fruit, a mix of greens cooked starchy veges every now and again maybe and rarely cooked meat.
its a 50/50 between mind and body. how you think about it can make a world of diffrence but how you do it can too
jimiBEbandit 3 months ago
You make some good points, but they can all be resolved. Many vegetarians do not educate themselves enough and have problems. People tend to eat things they like not what is best. Dark greens supply protein. Sunflower sprouts made into juice will give all nutrition needed. Sprouted sunflower
seeds are packed with protein.Spinach is packed with calcium. B12 supplements are easy and cheep. Bloating?.. Transition slowly! Mostly go and eat small amounts of meat, fish. Take years to go raw it works!

I would like to say that the uncomfortable effects such as bloating, gas, etc. when becoming raw are a form of detox. They usually aren't permanent and are just the body getting rid of built-up toxins in the body. My family experienced the same when they began eating less meat and more veggies and fruit.
However if they are prolonged and extreme (sharp pains, etc.) that IS a problem... fruitartarians seems to have more issues than raw fooders.
emvoneuw 3 months ago
All your points are logical and I respect your words. I agree there are many raw fooders out there who are raw for the wrong reasons. This unfortunate.
Because what you say is true - we have been eating a small amount of meat, and cooked food for thousands of years. Thus I believe a mostly organic plant-based whole foods diet with a percent of raw foods is optimal for everyone. But the amount of raw food you eat depends on your body.
emvoneuw 3 months ago
As a raw vegan myself, I clicked on this expecting to be frustrated with what you might say... but I'm actually in agreement with you. I eat raw food because it works the best for my body. I am vegan for health, environmental and moral reasons. I don't eat this way because of information based on bad science, airy-fairy ideals or faulty logic, and I am always realistic and skeptical in my thinking.
emvoneuw 3 months ago
The peer review argument is very weak. Big Pharma, who fund most research cannot make money from natural dietary foods. So they will never publish anything which promotes natural preventative diet.
This means this area is starved of research funds, and fewer studies are conducted.
I don't say results are falsified, but the direction of research is driven by profit ahead of pure science.
As for raw food nutrients, it depends on where they are grown. Rich soil produces rich vegetables.
wjestick 3 months ago
@wjestick
C0nc0rdance 3 months ago 4
@C0nc0rdance
Fill the food stores with GMO and processed foods and drive up the cost of fresh produce with draconian "food safety" laws and nobody will realise the truth.
wjestick 3 months ago
I think you are correct, that some of these people are going extreme, but raw food diet has a lot of good stuff, and it is now very hart to follow as long as you do it slowly. I lost 11 pounds in 10 days and feeling good. And I am li 85% raw food, I eat some cheese, fish and bread.

I've been on the raw food diet for 3 days now. I've been eating apples, bananas, tomatoes, mushrooms, yellow peppers, jalapeño peppers, walnuts & drinking water. its hard to stay on the raw food diet because many of the cooked foods are highly addictive especially the more processed and heated food. and most people will have feelings of discomfort not only from the changes in the digestive system but also from withdrawl effects of the addictive eating habits. for the most part someone who is looking into the raw food diet may have already been addicted and crippled in some form by cooked food and other food habits..

Hotwatty 5 months ago
@Hotwatty Thanks for bringing that up. Dr. Price noted specifically that every culture that he studied used animal products in some form. He did not find any strict vegan, raw cultures; they just didn't exist. Every culture he studied that had avoided processed food had minimal to no cavities, and excellent health and bone structure. Many raw vegans have dental issues because of problems with the diet. Although it's great for fast weight loss as I'm doing now!

@nutritionallytrue
What do you think?
C0nc0rdance 6 months ago
@nutritionallytrue

I'm glad to hear that. Your single, personal experience isn't that useful, though, for generalizing to the whole population of vegans.

@C0nc0rdance and vitamin d come from the sun dude.
monellasweeting 3 months ago
@monellasweeting
So does skin cancer, which kills about 7000 Americans/year. You can get adequate levels from diet without exposing yourself to excess risk from prolonged sun exposure.
C0nc0rdance 3 months ago
@C0nc0rdance
IF Skin Cancer = Less Sun
Then
Colon Cancer = Less Food
Brain Cancer??
wjestick 3 months ago
@wjestick
Agree?
C0nc0rdance 3 months ago
@C0nc0rdance

FordPrefect23 7 months ago
@FordPrefect23
An ice cream cone won't kill you, but one a day will : )
C0nc0rdance 7 months ago
@C0nc0rdance no. it is 1400 mg of sodium. salt is sodium chloride. salt can not be salt without the chloride. In a study of almost 3,000 men that had high blood pressure, the men on a low-salt diet had a 430% increase in heart attacks when compared to the men who ate a high-salt diet. Health care makes big bucks by selling a quart of water with salt in it (Saline 4) for up to $350.00 installed, but won't tell the patients they do indeed need more water and salt in their diets.

Sesshou17 9 months ago
Cholesterol levels. Raw food does lower both levels true. However, this is why there are unsaturated fats in the world. Avacados, Durians, for some nuts and seeds, and a more processed fats Cold Pressed Olive oil. These all help lower LDL Cholesterol levels, while at the same time, increase HDL Cholesterol levels. Cooking fats, turns them into saturated fats which do just the opposite, Increase LDL and lower HDL. This can lead to heart and cardiovascular disease. Fatty meats do the same.
Sesshou17 9 months ago
