First of all, he's not deaf. Secondly, I am, and I assure you, I can hear this song with great clarity. Just because a person's deaf doesn't mean they don't have access to hearing aids or cochlear implants. I know several people who can sign and yet are quite firmly planted in a hearing community.

Third, and lastly, even deaf people can feel vibrations, and sometimes, that's enough. You'd be surprised how much you can get from a little rumble in a throat.

I won't answer for him, but I will say that's what this is: an interpretation. NOT a transliteration or straight, literal translation. That would suck and not make sense.
